So anyone that's been to England before will know that the English just love saying sorry

we say it when it's not necessary, we say it when it is necessary

So this lesson is going to tell you about the many ways in which you can say sorry

And we'll talk about some slang ways that you can say sorry

Ok, so, how to apologise in English

Part one of this video

Well, the most basic way is...sorry

最基本的方法就是... 對不起

so sorry is good if you're in a hurry

當你在趕時間的時候說對不起就可以了

if you bump into someone on the street

當你在街上撞到人

or if you step on someone's shoe

或者踩到別人的鞋子

you can just say 'oh sorry', 'sorry'

你可以說‘哦，抱歉’，‘抱歉’

So, if you want to say a little more than that you can say 'I'm sorry'

如果你想要多說點，那麼你可以說‘我真抱歉’。

And if you want to go even further you can put an interesting word in between the 'I'm' and the 'sorry'

假使那樣還不夠，你可以在‘I'm' 和 ‘sorry' 間加上一個有趣的字，

like 'so', 'incredibly', 'terribly', 'really'

像是 ‘非常’，‘極為‘，'甚為‘，’實在‘

Oh I'm terribly sorry, Oh I'm so sorry

Then, if you actually want someone to forgive you, you can say 'please forgive me'

or forgive me for asking but...

But don't overuse it cos it will sound like you're a bit pathetic

Then we've got 'excuse me'

接著我們可以說 ‘不好意思’

Now this can be used in a variety of situations

這可以被運用在不同的狀況裡

If you need to get past and somebody is blocking your way

如果有人擋到你的路時，

you can say 'Oh excuse me, can I just get through?'

你可以說‘哦不好意思，可以借過嗎？’

excuse me, excuse me, excuse me...

不好意思，不好意思，不好意思...

You can also say it when your body lets out some gas

當你放屁時你也可以說

Oh! excuse me!

哦！不好意思！

And also you can use it to get attention

當要吸引注意力時，可以說

So 'excuse me everyone, excuse me, can you listen to me now?'

‘不好意思大家，不好意思，可以聽我說嗎？’

So sometimes I'll use that in my classes

有時在我的課堂裡我也會利用這種說法

another one that means exactly the same as 'excuse me' but with an additional meaning

另一個和‘excuse me’完全相同但還有額外含義的

is pardon me

是 pardon me

Pardon me we can use in the same way as excuse me

Pardon me的使用方法和excuse me一樣

but also if we want to interrupt a conversation

當我們要打斷對話的時候

So 'Oh, pardon me but can I just butt in here?

我們會說‘哦，不好意思我可以打個岔嗎？’

If you've really done something quite bad or you've really messed up

如果你做了不好的事或你搞砸了

Then you might want to say something a bit stronger

那麼你也許要更強調你的歉意

than sorry so you can say 'I owe you an apology'

那麼你可以說‘我應當向你道歉‘

I'd like to apologise

我想要道歉

and 'apologise' is much stronger and we often use it in written emails

"道歉" 是比較強烈的說法，我們通常運用在電子郵件中

If you want to send a letter to your boss apologising for your behaviour

當你要寫信為了你的行為和老闆賠不是時

Then you can say 'I sincerely apologise for what happened yesterday'

你可以說‘對於昨天發生的事情我誠心的道歉’

Or..'I take full responsibility for my behaviour'

或是... ’我對自己的行為全權負責‘

Let's move on to part 2, which is about how to say sorry for being late

讓我們進行到第二部分，這是有關於如何在遲到時說對不起

because being late in England is very very rude

因為遲到是非常無禮的

In some cultures it's accepted, in England it's not

在一些文化當中遲到可以被接受，但在英國則不行

The most basic one is 'Sorry I'm late'

最基本的是說‘對不起我來晚了’

You can also say 'sorry for being late'

也可以是‘我對於遲到感到抱歉’

Or my personal favourite 'sorry for keeping you waiting'

或者我最喜歡的說法‘對不起讓你久等了’

That one's quite nice

是不錯的說法

Ok, on to part 3: slang words for sorry

來看第三個部分：用俚語道歉

Now if I were you I would only use these with friends, ok? Not in a work or professional situation

如果我是你，這些我只會用在朋友身上而不是工作或專業的場合

the first one is 'whoops!'

第一種是‘哎喲！‘

Ok so maybe you've dropped someone's phone and you go 'Oh, whoops!'

或許你把別人的手機掉在地上然後你說‘哎呦’

Another one you can say is 'Oh, my bad!'

另一種是'哦，我的錯！‘

that's another way of saying 'Whoops, sorry'

也可以說‘哎呦，對不起’

And the last one which is a terrible word that you shouldn't use

最後這個糟糕的字不要使用，

this comes from the texting culture

它出自於簡訊文化，

Ok, and soz is a word that normally you will see in text messages

通常你會在短信中看到soz,

I don't think people actually say that..actually they might

Ok part 4: bad news

第四個部分：壞消息

Ok so maybe someone's pets died, maybe someone's lost a family member

也許有人的寵物死了，也許是家人過世

or maybe someone didn't get a job or something

或者有人沒有得到工作等等

So in this case you can say 'I'm so sorry to hear that'

這種情形你可以說‘發生這件事我很遺憾‘

You wouldn't just want to say 'Aaah...sorry...'

你不會只是說‘啊... 抱歉...’

No..I'm so sorry to hear that or 'I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't get the job'

‘發生這件事我很遺憾’或‘聽到你沒有得到工作我感到非常難受’

or 'I'm so sorry to hear about your dog'

’對於你的狗我感到很抱歉‘

If someone has died you can say 'I'm sorry for your loss'

假使有人過世你可以說‘你失去親人我感到很遺憾‘

ok...that's a very normal thing to say at funerals

在喪禮上是個非常正常的說法

So whilst you're saying sorry, your body language is very important

當你說對不起時，肢體語言也是很重要的

If you realise you've done something wrong

如果你知道你犯了錯

Maybe open your eyes wide and put your hand over your mouth

或許你應該張大眼睛將手放在嘴上

like 'ah! sorry'...like this

像這樣說‘啊！對不起’

It's very important to maintain eye contact so that you look sincere

眼神的接觸是相當重要的，你看起來會更加真誠

Like you really mean what you're saying

If you want to make your apology look even more sincere

如果你想讓自己的道歉更加真摯，

Then whilst you're saying it you can put your hand on your heart

那麼當你在說的時候可以將手放在心口上

I'm honestly so sorry for what I did yesterday.

And that's just a way of showing that you are honestly apologising for what you did

Finally, what can you do if words are just not enough

Ok, if you've done something so terrible or you've messed up so badly

假使你犯了很糟糕的錯誤或著徹底搞砸事情

that sorry doesn't cut it

道歉也沒有用的時候，

Well the most common way to say sorry without saying the word 'sorry'

那麼在英國最常見的方法

in England is to give flowers

是送花，

to give a bottle of wine

送一瓶酒

or to give a handwritten card

或者親手寫一張卡片
