This is our Windows IoT door security prototype. Using facial recognition, it identifies and greets the visitor by name and automatically unlocks the door for them. Now let's dig into the details. The brains of our solution runs on Windows 10 IoT Core running on Minnowboard Max hardware. A standard USB camera is attached to the device's USB port. A monitor and speakers are attached to the device's HDMI out. We use a GPIO pin on the device to control a relay switch. The relay switch, in turn, opens and locks the door lock. The doorbell button is attached to a GPIO pin as well. Finally, we use a cloud-based API, Project Oxford Face API, for facial recognition. So what happens when a stranger approaches the door? “You are an unauthorized visitor. The door will remain locked. Please step away from the door." It turns out the stranger was my friend, Mike. Let's add him to my Family and Friends list, so next time he visits the door will recognize him. Here, I take a picture of Mike, And now you can see he is in my Family and Friends list. “Welcome, Mike. I unlocked the door for you. Please come in.” Go to windowsondevices.com to find out how you can make projects like this and more. We can't wait to see what you build on Windows 10 IoT core.
