so I love teaching English and I have a short lesson for you right now

for you all who are working on your writing skills

in this video we're going to talk about transitions

and specifically kinda transitions that show

a contrast in your ideas alright

so let's get started I wanna share for stovall

some transitions

however in contrast on be

on the other hand

transition however comma in contrast

comma and on the other hand comma

and these are all used to show something

different something completely

on the contrary is coming up something

one hundred eighty degrees from what you've been talking about

so for example I Boston

has cold weather however

los Angeles has hot weather okay

I Boston has cold weather in contrast

hawaii has great warm weather Boston is cold

on other hand miami is hot

okay so these are completely different ideas

so those are simple ideas now when you write

hopefully your writing is going to be way more

I it it's going to be at a higher level than those sentences

that I just gave as examples the most important thing that I can tell you

from the mistakes that I've seen my students making

is to make sure that you use these transitions when you're ready to show

a completely opposite and contrary idea

it can not be a continuation on the same

thought so about bad news for these transitions would be

Boston is really cold however

I sometimes its only a little cold

doesn't really make sense your credit continue with the same idea

so Boston is really cold in contrast

Boston have a lot of snow doesn't really work its kind in the same idea

however another one boston's really cold on that other hand

you can ice skate there so

well has to be cold in order to ice skate so those

ideas go together to see how those are not

opposite ideas and you cannot use these transitions

these transitions are great for showing

opposite ideas so use these transitions when you have to write an essay showing

two different points of view showing the pros and the cons

or sharing your own point of view and then

adding be opposite point of view in to show that you understand that
