Today, we will be looking at one, two, three, four, five, six different 今天我們將學習一、二、三、四、五、六種不同的 expressions that all use the word "hang" in some way. I hope some of them will be familiar, 我希望部分將是熟悉的(用法), and some of them will be new to you guys. 部份將是你們新學到的(用法) So, first up: "Hang on". The sentence says: "Could you hang on a minute?" When we see 接下來,第一個 "Hang On"。 」當我們看到 "a minute", "hang on", clearly, we see this means to wait. Okay? So, "to hang on" means "a minute", "hang on",很明顯的,我們知道這個意思是等待。Ok嗎? 所以,"to hang on"的意思是 to wait. Generally, we use "hang on" in the imperative form, which means we give a command. So, if you're listening to a person tell a story and you want to say: 「Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hang on, hang on. Wait, wait, wait", also kind of like "stop" in this situation... And 等等、等等、等等。等等、等等、等等。」 在這個狀況下有"停"的意思...還有 if your friends are running away, and you're like: "Whoa. Hang on, hang on a minute. 等等,等我一下、等 on a minute." Okay? So, this means wait. And usually it's given in a command form. Okay? 我一下。 」OK嗎? 所以這裡就是指等。 然後這通常是在命令句中使用。OK嗎? Next up we have: "Hang up". So, the sentences here say: "Did you hang up the phone?", "He 接下來我們看到的是"Hang up" 所以這句話:「是你掛斷電話嗎? 」「 他 hung up on me." So, "to hang up" generally... All the time, actually, we use it to refer 掛我電話」,所以 "to hang up" 一般來說...基本上,實際上,我們用它來指向 to ending a phone call and clicking the end button. Okay? So, "to hang up" is to end a 掛斷電話還有按下掛電話的按鍵。OK嗎? 所以,"to hang up" 是結束一通 phone call. And the important part here is to know you can use the preposition "on" if 電話。這邊最重要的一部分是你要了解怎麼使用介係詞"on" 假如 someone hangs up on you. So, if I say: "He hung up on me", that means he ended the phone 有人掛你電話。 所以,如果我說: 「他掛我電話」,這裡是指說他結束這個 call. Now, usually this is because the other person was angry or upset at you, so: "I can't 通話。 現在來說,這通常是因為另一個對你生氣或是不爽你,所以:「我不 believe he hung up on me.", "I can't believe she hung up on me." Okay? 相信他掛我電話」「我不敢相信她掛我電話」。 OK嗎? Next one is: "Hang out". So: "Do you want to hang out this weekend?" If you watch a 下一個是 "Hang out"。所以:「你這周末想一起去晃晃嗎?」 如果你看了 lot of movies or if you listen to music, anything related to pop culture, you have probably 很多電影或是聽音樂,任何和流行文化有關的東西,你很有可能 heard this a lot, TV shows as well, and "to hang out" just means to spend time. Okay? 聽了很多,電視節目也是,"to hang out" 只是指花時間。 OK嗎? So, you hang out with your friends on the weekends. And hanging out means not doing 所以,你跟朋友在週末一起去晃晃(花時間)。然後 "hanging out" 是指不 anything in particular, but just spending time with your friends. So, you can hang out 特別做任何事情,只是和朋友一起殺時間。所以你可以 at someone's house, you can hang out at a coffee shop. So, just hang out. Spend time 在別人家閒晃, 你可以待在咖啡店殺時間。所以,只是閒晃。花時間 together in a casual situation. Okay? 在這偶然狀況聚下在一起。OK嗎? The next one is: "To hang around". So: "We're hanging around the mall." So, you're talking 接著是: "To hang around" 所以:「我們在購物中心閒逛。」所以,你正在講 on the phone, and your friend calls you and says: "Hey, where are you? We're looking for And you say: "Oh, we're just hanging around the mall." So, "hang around" you might 然後你說:「哦,我們只是在購物中心閒逛」。所以"hang around" 你可能 think has a very similar meaning to "hang out" because you are spending time, but "hang 認為跟"hang out" 的意思很像,因為你在花時間,但是"hang around" means you're spending time usually in one specific area, and usually it's because around" 是指說你在一個特定的地方花時間,通常是因為 you're wasting time and waiting for something else to happen. So, it does mean to spend 你在浪費時間還有等待某件事的發生。所以,這並不是指 time in an area. Now, again, as I mentioned, usually you're waiting for something else 在某地花時間。現在,再說一次,當我提到通常你在等待其他東西 to happen when you're hanging around. So, you know, if you tell your friends: "Just 在你閒逛時發生。所以,你知道,當你告訴你的朋友:「只是 hang around here for five minutes. Just spend some time, kill the time here. Okay? 然後 will be back. Just hang around this area." 我等下會回來,只是在這邊閒逛。」 Next is: "To hang in". And this is one that we definitely most often use in a command 接著是"To hang in" 這一個也是我們最最常在命令 form as well, imperative form. So: "Hang in (there) just a little longer." You'll notice 中使用的,或是祈使句。所以, :「(在那)待久一點」你會發現 I put the term... The word "there" in parenthesis, in brackets, and this is because we often 我使用了術語..."there"這個詞在括號裡,在括號,這是因為我們經常 use this with "hang in". So, if I say: "Hang in there", this means... Well, it means to 和"hang in"一起使用。所以,如果我說:「待在那」,這是指...呃,這意思是 don't give up, keep surviving, keep fighting. So, "to hang in" means to continue, or to 不要放棄,繼續生存下去,繼續撐下去。所以,"to hang in"是繼續的意思。或是 survive, or to not give up. So, if you're watching a mixed martial arts fight, for example, 生存或不要放棄。所以,如果你在看綜合格鬥,例如說: and one of the fighters in the fight, you know, you don't expect him to win and you 格鬥中的其中一個選手,你懂的,你不期望他贏然後你 say: "Wow, it's round three. He has hung in for three rounds." So, he has hung in there 說:「哇!現在是第三回合。他撐了三回合。」所以,他在那裡撐了 for three rounds, this means that he has survived. He is still going, continuing for th-, th-, 三回合,這指說他撐過來了。他還是在進行,還是繼續 第..第.. the third round. I'm sorry. My tongue is doing th-, th-, th-, things. 第三回合,抱歉我的舌頭對th-, th-, th-有點卡住 And, finally, the expression "to hang on someone's every word". So, for example: "I hung on the 接著,最後,表達:我專注於某人所說的每句話。 This means you pay attention to, listen to, you're interested 教授的每句話。」這是說你專注於,聽,你對某人 in the person's every word. So, basically, this means to be interested in everything 說的話很感興趣。所以,基本上這是指對所有事情感興趣 or by everything a person has to say. Now, you can use this when you're listening to 或是某人說的所有事情。現在,你可以在上課的時候使用, a lecture, you can use this if you're listening to a politician, you know, give a speech and 你也可以在聽政治家說話時使用。你知道的,聽一段演講且 you're just interested in everything a person has to say. Okay? 你剛好對那人說的所有事感到有興趣。OK嗎? So, to quickly review: "Hang on" means to wait. "Hang up" means to end a phone call. 來快速複習一下: "Hang on"是指等待。 "Hang up"是指掛斷電話。 "Hang out" is to spend time, usually with friends casually. "Hang around", you're spending "Hang out"是花時間,通常是跟朋友且偶然的。"Hang around",你花時間 time in one area; hanging around a doctor's office, hanging around the mall. "To hang 在一個地方; 你正在教授的辦公室裡, 在購物中心閒逛。"To hang in" is to continue, to survive, to not give up; usually in an imperative form. 所以, in there. Come on, hang in. Keep going. Don't give up." And "to hang on someone's every 「待在那。嘿!撐住。繼續下去,不要放棄。」還有,專注於某人所有的話, word", you're interested and attracted to a person and everything that they have to 你有興趣且受某人吸引然後所有他說的東西, say, more specifically. So, if you'd like to test your understanding of these six "hang" expressions, as always, 所以,如果你想要測試你是否了解這六個''hang'' 的表達方式,和以往一樣 you can check out the quiz on www.engvid.com. And don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel.
