  • Hello everyone! Welcome back.

  • Today's idiom is: talk my head off.

  • Talk my head off.

  • Alright, this is a funny idiom if we picture.

  • So, you have two people and one is speaking a lot and the other person is listening and listening and listening, okay?

  • And they're speaking for so long, but maybe the listener is getting bored or has other plans.

  • So, they take off their head and put it on the table and they can walk away.

  • Okay, so the person talked their head off.

  • Yeah, okay. So, let's listen to some examples as we have this picture in our head.

  • What happened? Youre 30 minutes late!

  • I’m sorry. My neighbor caught me as I was leaving and she talked my head off about how her son got accepted into college!

  • Okay, so his neighbor was telling him all of this stuff about her son getting accepted to college

  • and the she was talking and talking and talking and he wanted to take his head off and leave, but he couldn't.

  • She talked his head off. Yeah, she talked too much.

  • Alright, let's listen to the other example.

  • Did you have fun at the wedding?

  • No! The man who gave the speech was talking our heads off. I think we were all bored!

  • Alright, so the man giving the speech talked their heads off.

  • Okay, so to 'talk my head off' or 'talk your head off' means to talk a lot, too much, yeah, dragging on, to give an earful.

  • Yeah, too much and you don't want to listen anymore.

  • It's getting annoying, okay?

  • So, you can talk my head off, talk her head off, talk their heads off.

  • Okay, you can use it for any situation like that when someone is talking too much.

  • But, it's not very polite, so if someone is speaking too much, maybe it's a little too direct to tell them,

  • 'You're talking my head off.'

  • Maybe it's okay to your best friend or something, but generally it's used about someone else.

  • Yeah, my sister talked my head off yesterday on the phone. I was on the phone for 2 hours, yeah.

  • So, it's good in that situation and I hope you'll try to use it next time.

  • I'll see you again!

Hello everyone!
