Yagi made landfall on Phong and Quang Nhi provinces in northern Vietnam, bringing wind speeds exceeding 149 kilometres an hour.

According to local state media, the typhoon uprooted thousands of trees and swept ships and boats out to sea, leaving thousands without power.

據當地國家媒體報道，颱風使成千上萬棵樹木被連根拔起，船隻和船舶被捲入大海，數千人斷電。

Nga, you're Vietnamese, and first of all, just on a personal level, your family's been impacted, haven't they?

Yes, unfortunately not in Vietnam, but I do follow the typhoon very closely because my parents are in Hanoi.

Everyone is anxious, and my parents are worried, and I'm worried too.

And is this sort of typical around this time of year for super storms to hit the country?

Well, normally super storms actually happen down in the south, and northern Vietnam actually very lucky in that regard.

We never really suffer from big typhoons.

However, the Vietnamese people do believe that typhoons are worse in the years of the dragon.

And this year is the year of the dragon.

So that's why people are really, really cautious.

And today, I think my parents as well as everyone in the neighborhood stay inside.

They've been evacuating lots of people from Hanoi actually because of the old houses are prone to collapsing.

And I heard that the whole city of Hai Phong now has lost power.

You can imagine like a city of 3 million people one of the biggest port in Vietnam actually has no power is a tragedy really.

But very luckily, I heard that only one person dead because of fallen trees.

So I think people in Vietnam are prepared very well.

Yeah, you mentioned that port city Hai Phong.

We can see images, live images actually beside us on the screen there.

You're just telling us now that you're hearing that they have lost power in that city of some 3 million.

But of course, these incidents, many people say are on the increase due to climate change.

What are Vietnamese experts and scientists saying when it comes to that?

Well, of course, you know, scientists are still arguing about exact cause of typhoons and climate change.

So yeah, maybe climate change, maybe global warming, maybe human impact on the nature.

We don't know.

It's just that, you know, it's getting worse and worse every year.

And now, northern Vietnam start suffering from big typhoons.
