Packing the wrong things could completely derail your trip,

which is why in today's video, I'll be covering a list of items that are absolutely prohibited as well as those that are technically allowed in your checked bag,

but you do not want to put them in there for various reasons, which we will also cover.

Alcohol over 70% or 140 proof or higher is not allowed in your checked bag.

Checked bags are not subject to the liquid limit.

This one is non-alcoholic, but I'm using it as an example.

Please be cautious if you do decide to pack a six pack of canned beer in your checked baggage,

these could explode while in the air, and an exploded can of beer or a broken bottle of wine in your checked baggage, not good.

There are also a few prohibited liquid items.

One being bleach, liquid bleach.

I could totally see someone packing Clorox with bleach inside of their checked baggage to use at their destination.

Not allowed. Don't do it.

You also don't want to be packing any medications in your checked bag.

Prescriptions in particular should not be going in your checked bag because you may not be able to replace them in your destination country if the bag is lost.

You may also unexpectedly end up needing this prescription medication while in transit.

Perhaps one of your flights is delayed and you end up with an extended layover

or you arrive at your destination and your bags are delayed

The good news here is that prescription medications are not going to count towards your carry-on liquid limit.

Just be sure to leave any pills, powders, liquids, creams and so on in their original packaging as you go through the carry-on security.

This is not the place to be saving space by putting them into smaller containers.

You may be wondering if marijuana, CBD oil and various related accessories and products are allowed in your checked bag.

The short answer is no.

If you are going through airport security in the US, you need to follow federal law and under federal law, marijuana is still illegal.

CBD oil is becoming a more popular health item and on domestic flights in the US, you can in fact travel with CBD oil in your checked bag if the THC content is 0.3% or lower,

The same THC 0.3% or lower rule is also going to apply for CBD products like edibles.

Vape pens and E-cigarettes are an absolute no-no in your checked bag due to the battery that is inside them.

You are okay to bring a bomb with you though.

Just make sure it is thoroughly cleaned.

Electronics, all of them, for various reasons, should not be in your checked bag.

Anything with a lithium battery is prohibited from being in your checked bag, which includes things like smartphones, laptops, electric toothbrushes, and many other devices.

If you've ever seen the manner in which checked bags are handled and the way that they are tossed around, you know that putting electronics inside of your checked bag is not a good idea.

You're putting them at a high risk of being damaged.

On a similar note to your electronics and chargers, don't put anything with monetary or sentimental value in your checked bag.

You may be asked to show this when you arrive at your destination, depending on the country that you're flying into as well as the specific immigration officer that you happen to be dealing with.

There could be no excuses and no discussion around why you don't have it with you and you could be denied entry into the country.

It's quite common to bring coffee beans home with you from your travels, but I would advise against putting coffee in your checked bag.

This is not a great example because it is in a glass case and it is ground, but generally, coffee beans have quite the smell to them.

And criminals have historically used the coffee bean smell to cover up the smell of other substances.

And while yes, you are allowed to pack these coffee beans and you will probably be allowed to keep them,

you do not want anyone opening up your bag and searching it when you are not present.

This raises the risk for both theft and damaged belongings.

I highly doubt that the agent that is searching your bag has watched nearly as many packing videos as you have and may just stuff everything back in.

This next one is so important if you travel with film.
