  • So, you're introverted, but you just need to speak out to practice your English skills or any other languages that you're learning.

  • How do you go about that?

  • In this video, let's just assume that you have found a place where you can start speaking your target language.

    在這部影片中,我們先假設你已經找到一個可以開始說你目標語言的地方。

  • It could be a class, it could be a discussion group, it could be a group of friends that you made just to practice this target language

    可能是課堂上、討論小組,或是你為了練習這個語言而結交的朋友群。

  • whatever it is, let's just assume that you have a place to speak.

    不管是哪裡,我們就先假設你有一個發言平台。

  • But despite already finding a place where you can already speak, you just find it very hard to speak out because you're just so shy.

    儘管已經找到可以讓你說話的地方,你就是覺得開口很困難,因為你太害羞了。

  • Maybe you're introverted, maybe you're just too nervous, or whatever.

    或許你是內向的、太緊張,之類的。

  • So, in this video, I want to give you some tips on how you can overcome this.

    所以說,我想要在這部影片中給你一些可以克服這件事的技巧。

  • One, shift the focus.

    第一、轉移焦點。

  • So, one of the reasons why you're probably nervous and you're too shy to speak out is probably because you are thinking out of fear.

    你會感到緊張並且羞於開口的原因之一大概是,你的想法被恐懼支配。

  • You're thinking that people are gonna judge you.

    你認為人們會批判你。

  • People are gonna make fun of you.

    人們會取笑你。

  • People are gonna think your accent is weird.

    人們會認為你的口音很奇怪。

  • People are gonna think you're stupid, etc.

    人們會覺得你很愚蠢,等等。

  • The truth is, most people are too busy thinking about themselves to actually think about you.

    事實是,多數人大概都忙著想自己,忙到沒時間想你。

  • And the hard truth, which is actually a good thing for you, is that you're not special.

    而難以接受卻或許對你好的事是:你並不特別。

  • Everyone else is going through the same process, everyone else is also afraid to look bad.

    其他人也都在經歷同樣的過程、他們也害怕表現不良。

  • And most of the time, people are probably also afraid that you might judge them for their language skills, etc.

    而多數時候,人們大概也害怕你會批判他們的語言技巧,等。

  • So, just shift the focus from thinking that people will think you're stupid to actually focusing on the content of your message.

    所以說,只要實際把焦點從「人們會認為你很愚蠢」轉移到「你要傳達的訊息內容」即可。

  • So, the only thing that you need to focus on when you speak out is: How do I deliver my message clearly so that other people can understand it?

    你開口說時需要專注的唯一一件事就是:我該如何清楚地傳達我的訊息,以確保其他人可以了解?

  • Number two, prepare beforehand.

    第二、事先準備。

  • So, if you know you're gonna be in a situation where you're going to speak out, prepare.

    如果你知道自己即將會處於一個需要發言的情境,那就做準備。

  • Especially if you know that you're a shy person, that you're gonna feel anxious when you speak out.

    尤其如果你自知是個害羞的人、需要講話時會感到焦慮。

  • I really recommend you to take some time to prepare mentally or even physically before the session starts.

    我真心建議你花點時間做精神上的準備,甚至在開始前做身體上的準備。

  • So, let's say you found this conversation class and it starts everyday at 3 p.m.

    假設你找到一天每天下午 3 點開始的會話課。

  • So, for at least a whole day or even, like, a couple of hours before, prepare.

    那麼至少前一天或甚至是前幾個小時,做準備吧。

  • And how do you prepare, exactly?

    那麼究竟該怎麼準備?

  • So, for every person, it's different.

    對每個人來說都有所不同。

  • For me, in order to prepare myself to actually speak out, I'm gonna get as much input as possible.

    對我而言,為了做好實際發言的準備,我會盡可能地取得輸入量。

  • So, let's say a couple of hours before or maybe the night before,

    我們假設是在數小時前或是前一晚,

  • I will be watching a movie in the target language or I would even try to come up with dialogues in my head when I go about my day.

    我會看一部標的語言的電影,甚至會試著想想我度過一整天時可能會有的對話。

  • Maybe I can just read that booread a book in the language.

    或許我可以讀一本那個語言的書籍。

  • It's up to you.

    這取決於你。

  • And the reason why I need enough input to prepare is to warm up the mode of the target language in my head.

    而我需要獲得足夠輸入的原因是,要在腦海中替標的語言模式做暖身。

  • For example, if I always go through my day in English, and then, I know that I'm gonna have to speak French at 3 p.m. everyday,

    舉例而言,如果我一整天都是講英文,但我知道每天下午 3 點都必須講法文,

  • so, this means that the English mode and the French mode are fighting against each other.

    這就表示英文和法文模式會互相競爭。

  • So, giving myself enough input in French is going to strengthen the French mode, and when the French mode is strengthen in my head, it's just a lot easier for me to get it out as output, to speak out.

    所以說,給予我自己足夠的法文輸入將會強化法文模式,而當我腦中的法文模式強化,輸出或實際開口對我來說就會容易多了。

  • So, that is how I prepare, normally, and it always works.

    那就是我一般的準備方式,它總會奏效。

  • Whenever I know I'm gonna speak French, and then I watch a series or a video beforehand, the French mode just comes out a lot more naturally.

    每當我知道自己要說法文,然後會在事前看影集或影片,法文模式就會更自然地出現。

  • However, this is just my way; people usually prepare in different ways.

    不過,這只是我的方式,人們通常會用不同的方式準備。

  • Maybe you can give yourself a pep talk before your session.

    或許你可以在事前給自己精神喊話。

  • Maybe you can take a deep breath.

    或許你可以深呼吸。

  • You can meditate.

    你可以冥想。

  • You can practice.

    你可以練習。

  • You can dance to music to feel more energized.

    你可以隨著音樂起舞以感到活力。

  • You can exercise to make yourself feel confident.

    你可以透過運動讓自己更有信心。

  • Whatever it is, you know best how you can prepare yourself to get better.

    無論是什麼,你自己最知道可以怎麼更好地做準備。

  • Number three, lower your expectation of yourself.

    第三、降低對自己的期望。

  • So, one of the reasons why you're probably nervous and you get anxious before you speak is probably because you have too high of an expectation about yourself.

    你開口說話前會感到緊張並且焦慮的原因之一大概是,你對自己的期望太高了。

  • I need to have the perfect accent.

    我需要擁有完美的口音。

  • I need to use difficult vocabulary to sound smart.

    我需要使用艱澀的字彙才會顯得更聰明。

  • I shouldn't made this kind of grammatical mistake when I speak out.

    我發言時不應該犯這種文法錯誤。

  • So, forget all of that.

    忘掉那一切吧。

  • Giving yourself too much expectation is going to be counterproductive.

    給自己過多的期望會適得其反。

  • I can say this with confidence because I go through this problem every single week whenever I want to record a video.

    我可以很有信心地這麼說,因為我每一週想要拍攝影片時都會經歷這個問題。

  • Whenever I have too much expectation with myself, like, I need to get it perfect on the first take; I need to be able to do this video within a 20-minute period;

    每當我給自己過多期望時,例如:我得在第一次拍攝時就完美表現、我得在 20 分鐘的時間內拍好這部影片、

  • I should remember all of my points; and then I'm just gonna have to look at the camera all the time so that I don't have to do jump cuts in my video.

    我應該記住所有要點,然後我必須一直盯著攝影機,這樣影片就不用做任何跳接剪輯了。

  • So, actually, giving all of these expectations of myselfhigh expectations of myselfis actually gonna make me a lot more nervous,

  • and then I will end up messing up the script, stumbling on my words, and... yeah.

    然後我最終就會搞砸劇本、說話結巴,然後⋯⋯就是這樣。

  • So, don't expect too much of yourself.

  • Again, like I said in point number one, focus on the message.

    我重申第一點提到的,專注於訊息。

  • What do you need to deliver in your message, and how can you make this as clear as possible to your target audience, to your conversational partner?

    你的訊息需要傳達什麼,以及你可以怎麼讓這點更清楚地表達給你的觀眾、對話夥伴?

  • This is the only expectation you need to have for yourself whenever you speak out.

    這是你要開口時,唯一需要給自己的期望。

  • Other stuff?

    其它的東西呢?

  • They're gonna think I'm stupid; I need to have a perfect accent; I shouldn't make grammatical mistakes.

    他們會覺得我很笨、我需要有完美的口音、我不應該犯文法錯誤。

  • That doesn't work.

    那些都沒有幫助。

  • That's gonna make you even more nervous, and hence, you're gonna paralyze when you speak out, when you put too much pressure on yourself.

    那會讓你更加緊張,因此你發言時會因為放太多壓力在自己身上而語塞。

  • So, those are the three tips that I think can help you feel a lot less nervous when you speak out.

    以上是我認為可以幫助你在發言時較不緊張的三個訣竅。
