  • Hey guys, it's Shane from English Understood here, and this is part three of the pronunciation tip series.

  • Izeegoing?

  • Izithere?

  • Huh!? What's 'izee'? What's 'izit'?

  • 'Izee' is how we say 'is he' very, very quickly. Izee.

  • And when you say this, it is a voiced sound.

  • So your throat must be vibrating. Izee. Izee.

  • And 'izit' is what 'is it' sounds like when it's said very, very quickly.

  • Izit. Izit.

  • And when we say this, your throat must vibrate again.

  • It's a voiced sound. So now you try.

  • Izee.

  • Izit.

  • When we say 'is' and we have a word after 'is', which starts with a vowel, normally we can join those two words together.

  • For example, izadamgoing? Izadamgoing?

  • This means: Is Adam going?

  • Izamerica a big country? Izamerica a big country?

  • Is America a big country?

  • Izoceans Eleven a good movie?

  • Izoceans Eleven a good movie?

  • Is 'Ocean's Eleven' a good movie?

  • Just remember, when you say this, the sound must be voiced.

  • Your throat must vibrate.

  • Izee. Izee.

  • But if you don't make your throat vibrate, it will sound like this:

  • Issy. Issy.

  • And 'issy' isn't a word and doesn't really make sense.

  • So try this with your native speaker friends, and they will think that you are a native speaker too.
