  • Hey guys, it's Shane here from English Understood, and welcome to part two of this common mistakes series.

  • A lot of the time I hear my students saying things like: 'I can going.'

  • 'I can eating.' 'I can walking.'

  • No, no, no, no, no, no, no.

  • You have to stop saying this.

  • A really easy way to speak English like a native speaker is to listen to native speakers very often and listen for patterns.

  • A 'pattern' is a particular way of saying something.

  • So for example, if you listen to native speakers, you will never hear a native speaker say, 'I can going.'

  • 'I can eating.'

  • 'I can walking.'

  • And actually, if you listen to native speakers enough, sometimes you will know a sentence is wrong without knowing why, without knowing the grammar.

  • Why do you know it's wrong?

  • Because you have listened to native speakers, and you have never heard them say that sentence.

  • And normally, if a native speaker hasn't said that sentence, then the grammar is probably wrong.

  • So how can you fix this problem of saying, 'I can going', 'I can eating', 'I can walking'?

  • It's very easy - just don't say the ING.

  • Just say, 'I can go.'

  • 'I can eat.'

  • 'I can walk.'

  • How easy was that?

  • English is easy, right?

  • We improved your English in about three minutes.
