Today, we are talking about the simple past verb tense, also called the past simple.

今天我們要講的是簡單過去的動詞時態，也叫簡單過去式。

We can use many verb tenses to talk about the past, but the simple past is what we use most often.

我們可以用很多動詞時態來談論過去，但簡單過去式是我們最常用的。

We formed this tense by adding -ed or -d to most verbs in English.

我們在英語中大部分的動詞尾加入-ed 或 -d 來形成這個時態。

But English has many verbs with irregular past forms, such as say, have, go, be and see.

但英語中有很多動詞的過去式是不規則的，像是 say、have、go、 be 和 see。

We use the simple past to talk about completed actions in the past and to talk about habits in the past.

我們用簡單過式去來談過去完成的動作並談論過去的習慣。

I watched some funny videos last night.

And when we use the simple past to talk about past habits, we usually add short phrases to make the meaning clear.

我們用簡單過去式來談過去的習慣時，一般都會加上一些短句來把意思說清楚。

I took drawing classes in middle school.

To form questions with the simple past, we add the verb "do," like this:

用簡單過去式造句時，我們會加上「do」，像這樣：我們這樣加動詞do。

Did you take drawing classes in middle school?

你國中時上過繪畫課嗎？

Notice that when we use the past tense, auxiliary, "did," the main verb, "take," stays in simple form.

注意，當我們使用過去式的助動詞「did」時，主動詞「take」維持簡單式。

Negative statements in this tense also use the auxiliary verb "do", and that's everyday grammar.
