My name is Benjamin, and I'm here to teach you on EngVid today some really good 哈囉,我的名字是班傑明 ,今天我要在 Engvid 教你們的是一些很棒的單字 vocabulary for asking people to do what you want them to do in a work environment, 為的是要在工作環境中,要求別人去做你想要他們做的事 helping you to be the boss. 讓你講話像個老闆 Okay. So first thing, I want you to imagine, to think, of one thing you want someone you 好的,那麼第一件事,我要你們去想像一件你想要某個人與你 work with to do, okay? What could it be? Think of the person -- you want to do -- okay, yeah. 一起做的事,它可能是什麼?想想你想一起做事的那個人 I want them to do that. Yeah. Good. So here are some different uses. We gonna talk 好我想要他們做那件事,那麼這裡有一些不同的用法,我們將要 through some different kinds of instructions, some different ways of asking people to do 透過一些不同種類的指示、一些不同的方法去要求別人去做 something, okay? Good. 某件事 So first one: "aim at" or "aim to". So we could say, "Bob, I'd like you to aim at 第一個字,aim at 或 aim to,我們可以說:「鮑比,我想要你在 producing that presentation by Tuesday morning." Okay? So when we use "by", we introduce a deadline 星期二早上提出一個口頭報告。」,而當我們用"by"時,我們就提到了期限 that they have to finish it by. Okay? So "I'd" -- obviously that's short for "I would" -- like 他們必須要在此之前完成,而 " I'd " 顯然是" I would"的縮寫 you to do this. Okay? Now, in terms of the pronunciation, "I'd like you to aim", so we 就是要你去做,在發音方面" I'd like you to aim(我要你做..)" shorten -- we don't pronounce the O, and it becomes "t' aim at". Okay? So this kind of 把她念簡短些,所以我們不發O的音,把它念成" t aim at " all goes into one word. "Bob, I'd like you to aim at finishing that presentation by Tuesday morning." 所以一句話:「鮑比,我要求你在星期二早上之內提出一個口頭報告。」 Now, Bob asked me what the presentation needs to be. So I say to him, "Aim to have a beginning, 現在,鮑比會問我,這個報告需要什麼?而我會他說:「目標要有一個開頭、 a middle, an end with some graphs and some evidence." Okay? "Aim to". "Aim to do 一段中間內容、一段結尾且要有著一些圖表與一些證據。」,「需要去做到 this, this, and this." Great. 這個、這個、還有這個。 」,很好 Now, "count on" and "rely on" are ways of checking, of asking if Bob can definitely "count on(依靠)" 和 "rely on(依賴)" 是兩個確認鮑比是否可以確切的 do this. If he can do this. Okay? So I say to him, "Bob, can I count on you to do that?" 做到的單字,所以我會問他:「鮑比,那件事我可以靠你嗎?」 He either says yes or no. If he says yes, I know that Bob can do the presentation. I 他可能說是或不是,如果他說是,我知道他很有把握 could say it another way. "Can I rely on you to do that?" Okay? Again, the pronunciation 我也可以用不同方式說:「我能信賴你嗎?」,再一次,我們來教發音 -- you don't really need to pronounce the "to". It just goes "t' do that". Right? So 你不需要真的去發 "to" 的音,它就只是 "t do that",所以 rely on, "Can I rely on Bob to do this?" If I rely on Bob to do my presentation, Bob is 依賴(信賴),「我可以信賴鮑比能夠做到此事嗎?」,如果我相信鮑比能夠完成報告,鮑比就 doing the presentation, and I can do other work. I know Bob will do it. I rely on him. 能做到這個口頭報告,我就能做其他工作,我知道鮑比會做到的,我信賴他 Okay? "Rely on. Count on." Okay, so "count", it's the same word as counting money -- one, 好的 "rely on(依賴)、"count on(依靠)" ,而 "count" 它跟數錢的 「數」是同一個字 1 two, three, four, five, six, seven pounds. Here, I'm counting on him. Good. 2 3 4 5 6 7 英鎊,我能倚靠他,很好 To "fit something in". Okay? So "fit". It's a word we use with clothes. Do these clothes 要 "fit something in",而 "fit " 這個字常與衣物一起用,像這些衣服 fit? Do I fit into them? Do I fit in? Yeah, I fit. They fit me." "Is that something you 合身嗎?我可以穿得下嗎?可以塞的下嗎?耶我穿得下,他們很適合我,「你有時間做 can fit in? Can you fit this presentation into your day? Can you find time in your day 某事嗎?」,你可以找時間在今天內做這個報告嗎?你可以在一天中找到時間 to do the presentation?" "Is that" -- okay, meaning the work, the presentation -- "a thing 去做這個報告嗎?"Is that",意思是那項工作、報告 you can fit in?" Okay? "Is that something you can fit in?" 可以嗎?「你可以一起做這件事嗎?」 Now, another way of saying this, "Do you think you'll be able to squeeze it in?" So "squeeze", 現在,另一種說法「你覺得你能夠塞的下它嗎?」,所以 "squeeze(擠)" here, that's more informal, okay? So I say, "Do you think you'll" -- so that's obviously 是比較不正式的,所以我會說:「你覺得你」,很明顯這是 short for "you will" be able -- future tense. "You will be able to squeeze it in." And the "you will" 的簡寫,能夠–未來式,「你將能夠塞的下它嗎?(一起做這件事)」 answer would be, "Yeah. Sure, Benjamin. I can fit it in. No problem." Okay? Are you 答案可能是:「當然,班傑明,我可以一起做,沒問題」 with me so far? 到這邊還跟得上嗎? Now, if I have doubts, if I have questions about Bob doing my presentation, I might need 至此,如果我有疑慮,如果我對於鮑比做的報告有疑問,我可能需 to follow up. Okay? It's a good idea to follow up. That means to check. "Bob are you doing 要去檢查,It's a good idea to follow up.,就是去檢查的意思,「鮑比,你正在做 the presentation? Bob, how's the presentation going? Bob, any news with the presentation?" 那個報告嗎?鮑比,那個報告作的如何?鮑比,口頭報告有任何消息嗎?」 These are all ways of following up. Now, we can use "follow up" with a noun. "Bob, we 這些全部都是去表達檢查的說法,現在我們可以將 "follow up" 當作名詞,「鮑比,我們 will need to plan a followup." "A" or "the" -- remember: There are articles with the followup, 將需要計畫一個後續追蹤的行動。」 "A" 或 "the"---記住:這些是 followup 的冠詞 which is our noun. Okay? A "followup", working there as a noun. We can also use it as a verb, "followup",這裡當名詞用,我們也可以將它當動詞用 okay? I say to Bob, "I will be following up on this." Okay? Future tense with "will". 我跟鮑比說:「我會持續關注這件事。」,用未來式的 "will(將會)" Or another way of saying it, again in the future, "Bob, I am going to follow up on this. 或是換一種說法,一樣是未來式:「鮑比,我將會持續追蹤此事。」 I am going to follow up on this." So "follow" -- you might know the verb "follow". If I 而 "follow" ---你可能知道 "follow" 這個動詞,如果我 follow someone, I walk around on them. So if I'm following Bob, I'm making sure he's "follow"某人,就是我跟在他們附近,所以我在追蹤鮑比,我就是在確認他 doing the work. Great. 在做這項工作 Now, Bob is getting a bit annoyed because I'm asking questions, questions, questions. 鮑比可能會開始因為我一直提問題而覺得很煩 So he just says to me, "Benjamin, no problem, sir. I can pull this off." Okay? "Pull off." 所以他就我說:「班傑明,沒有問題,長官,我可以成功完成此事。」"Pull off" That means "can do". Okay? "Pull off" means "can do". Now, let's have a little picture. "Pull off" 的意思是:「可以做到」,現在想像一個小畫面 This is where we are now. This is where we want to get to. And Bob is going to pull 這是我們目前的進度,這是我們想要到達的目標,而鮑比將要摘掉 the target off. He's going to do it so easily. He's going to "pull it off". Okay? Now, I'm 那個目標,他可以很輕易達成,他將會成功完成 just going to go and check to see if Bob is doing his work. 現在我正要去確認鮑比是否有做到他的工作 Okay. So the good news is Bob has done the presentation really well. So I've just got 好消息是鮑比的報告做得非常好,那麼我該 a few more little phrases to throw in there when we need to conclude something. So maybe 用一些片語來總結 you've been having a very long conversation, maybe over Skype, kind of a conference call. 也許你們已經談一段很長的對話,或許適用Skype,類似線上會議 You could say, "Right. We're going to need to wind things up there. We're going to have 你可以說:「對,我們需要將這些事情作個收尾,我們必須要 to wind things up." Okay? So "wind up". Imagine you're fishing; you're bringing in the line. 作個結尾。」,所以用 "wind up",想像你在釣魚,你正在收線 You're winding in the line. Okay? You're coming to an end. You could say, "We're going to 你把魚線拉上來,代表你就要收尾了,你也可以說:「我們必須要 have to finish up." Again, you could say, "We're going to have to finish up there. At 作個總結。」你也可以說:「我們必須要在那裡作個完結。」 this point. Now. We're going to have to finish up there." Okay? Imagine Formula One racing 在這個時間點,現在,我們將要作一個完結,想像F1方程式賽車 cars. When the cars finish, you wave the flag. "We're going to have to finish up there." 當賽車抵達終點,你會揮舞旗幟,我們必須要在那邊作個完結 And one other way of saying it, "We're going to have to draw to a close." Okay? Close. 還有另一種說法,我們將要逼近閉門的時候 Open, close, "We're going to draw to a full stop" -- when the shop is shut. Okay? 開啟、關閉:「我們將要接近完結。」--- 當商店正要打烊的時候 So today, we've done lots of ways of asking people to do things. Why don't you have a 今天我們學到很多方法去要求別人做事,你現在為何不去 go, now, at doing the quiz?
