  • one of Asia's hottest tourist destinations.

  • Located on the northern tip of Taiwan,

  • Taipei is known for its night markets.

  • These markets are open-air bazaars.

  • where vendors specialize in one or two main dishes.

  • Taiwanese food tends to be sweet,

  • but if sweet food is not your thing,

  • there are plenty of other options to choose from.

  • And while there are dozens of markets scattered around Taipei,

  • this one is the most famous.

  • Here are the five must-try dishes.

  • But before we get into that, a bit of history.

  • Most traditional night markets in Taiwan

  • were born within the vicinity of a temple.

  • Right here, we have a temple dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu,

  • and back in the day,

  • people from the countryside would come and sell their food

  • and that's how Raohe Night Market was born.

  • This dish, known as hujiaobing,

  • comes from the city of Fuzhou in mainland China.

  • This jelly is made with these seeds mixed in water.

  • Sausage is prevalent in Taiwanese cuisine,

  • and at night markets,

  • you'll find them in this form called dachang bao xichang.

  • This dish, known as huasheng bingqilin

  • originated in Taiwan's northeast.

  • Stinky tofu, or choudoufu,

  • gets its signature odor after it's soaked in brine.

  • You can find these five foods here at this location.

  • And as always, feel free to taste around.

  • In our next episode, we travel to Beijing,

  • the capital of China,

  • to try some iconic street food Beijing style.

  • And if you missed our Shanghai 5 Street Eats,
