  • Hi, my name is Rebecca, and in today's lesson I'm going to show you how to express negative

    嗨,我是Rebecca,在今天的課程中,我要告訴你如何用英文去表達強烈否定的

  • ideas in a very powerful way in English. Okay? Now, there are many ways to do this, but the way that

    想法,其實有很多種方法可以表達,但是現在

  • I'm going to show you teaches you certain expressions which we place at the beginning of the sentence and that emphasize the negative aspect of whatever it is that we're trying to communicate.

    我要跟你說的方式是,不管我們要傳達的什麼訊息,有些特定的措辭我們可以用於句子前面去強調否定的想法

  • now, this is a little bit of an advance lesson. Because some of the changes that we have to make in the sentence in order to convey the negative aspect are a little bit tricky,

    現在要更進階一點囉。在句子中,為了要傳達出否定的層面,我們必須要會改變句型,這是有點難以捉摸的

  • but I think if you follow along, you will understand.

    但是如果你跟著學,你會了解的

  • And secondly, even if you are not at an advanced level, it's good to understand how these expressions are used,

    其次,即使你還沒到高級程度,但了解這些措辭怎麼被使用也是一個很好的機會

  • so when people around you use them, you will follow why they're using those expressions

    所以當其他人用這些表達方式,你會知道為什麼他們用這些措辭

  • and how seriously they are conveying what they want to communicate. Okay? So, let's

    和了解他們所要表達的意思,好嗎?所以讓我們

  • look. So the expressions that we can use at the beginning of the sentence are:

    來看看,有些可以用在句子前頭的措辭是

  • "Never before", or: "Under no circumstances", or: "On no account".

"Never before"、"Under no circumstances" 或 "On no account"

  • Okay? So these are three different ways that we can express negative ideas. And I'm going

    知道了嗎?這三個可以用來表達否定的想法,現在

  • to show you now how to incorporate them or how to use them in the context of an English sentence.

    我要讓你們知道如何活用和在英文句子中使用他們

  • So let's suppose in the first example that

    首先,第一個例子

  • this is the idea that we want to express. The idea we want to express in regular English without this expression first is:

    這是一個我們要表達的想法,這樣的想法我們可以先用普通句型來表達

  • "We cannot allow this to continue."

    「我們不允許這件事繼續下去」

  • Okay? That's your regular sentence. Right? "We cannot allow this to continue." Just ignore the numbers for a moment;

可以嗎?這是個普通的句子,對吧? "We cannot allow this to continue." 先不要看上面的數字

  • I'm going to explain why I've put numbers on them. Now, look what

    我待會會解釋這些標在上面數字,現在來看看

  • happens to the sentence when we use one of these expressions first to emphasize the negative aspect:

    如果我們用這幾個措辭方式去強調這個句子會怎麼樣

  • "Under no circumstances can we allow this to continue."

    "不管怎樣我們不同意這個繼續下去,"

  • Right? We cannot... We didn't say: "Under no circumstances we cannot allow this to continue."

對吧?我們不可以... 我們沒說 "Under no circumstances we cannot allow this to continue."

  • We didn't just add this and keep the sentence the same;

    我們不是只加 under no circumstances 就可以保持句子的意思不變

  • we had to make some changes. So what came first? Now, when we use this expression,

    我們要再做些改變,第一,當我們用這個措辭

  • first we have to use the auxiliary or helping verb, like here: "can". Okay? Then we have

    我們需要助動詞的幫忙,就像這裡的 "can",懂了嗎?之後

  • to put the subject of the sentence which is: "we", and then you place the main verb.

    主詞也要記得放 "we",然後是主要動詞

  • All right? Let's look. So here it said: "We cannot allow", and here we said: "Under no circumstances

可以嗎?再看看 "We cannot allow" 和 "under no circumstances"

  • can we allow this to continue." So this negative part came into this expression, and therefore,

can we allow this to continue." 這兩個句子,負面詞 cannot 就等於是 under no circumstances,所以

  • the rest of the sentence became positive, but the implication is still negative.

    剩下的句子就只要正面就好,主要這句的含意仍是負面的

  • All right? Let's look at another example. This is the

    可以嗎?再看看另一個例子,這是

  • idea you want to convey: "We will not admit anyone under 18."

    你想傳達「我們不允許18歲以下的人」

  • "We will not admit anyone under 18." That's the regular sentence. Now, when we use one of these expressions,

"We will not admit ayone under 18." 這是個普通句型,現在我們可以使用其中一個措辭

  • we could say: "On no account will we admit anyone under 18."

可以說 "On no account will we admit anyone under 18."

  • So, what happened? "On no account will we admit", all right?

所以,有什麼不同? "On no account will we admit"

  • So first the auxiliary: "will", then the subject: "we", then the main verb: "admit".

    第一個助動詞 "will",再來 "we" 是主詞,主要動詞是"admit"

  • Okay? Let's look at another example.

    清楚嗎?再看看另一個例子

  • "We have never spent so much before." Okay? That's your regular sentence.

    「我們從來沒花這麼久」這是普通句型

  • "We have never spent so much before." When we use another one of these expressions, we say:

"We have never spent so much before." 我們使用另一個措辭

  • "Never before have we spent so much." Okay? "Never before have we spent so much."

「我們以前從來沒花這麼久」可以嗎?"Never beofer have we spent so much."

  • Okay? So, you see again that the "never" came at the beginning in the form of this expression,

    所以你可以再看到 "never" 在句子最前面,形成了這樣的表達方式

  • and then the rest of it remained positive, but the overall impression that you give

    剩下的就保留正面,這整個的意思仍是說

  • is that you have never spent so much before. Okay?

    「你從未花這麼久時間過」了解嗎?

  • So these three expressions are very useful and powerful to express negative ideas

    所以這三個措辭非常很好用,能夠有力的表達否定想法

  • because right at the start of the sentence you're communicating the message

    因為在句子的開頭你就表達出你要的意思

  • , a very strong message that there is a negative idea that you want to express. Okay?

    一個強烈的否定訊息,懂了嗎?

  • If you'd like to practice this - which is probably a very good idea - go to our website:www.engvid.com.

    如果你想要練習類似的措辭,這樣的想法很好,可以到我們的網站 www.engvid.com

  • Thanks very much for watching and good luck with your English.

    謝謝收看,祝你們的英文越來越好
