Intro:
Hi, VoiceTubers. This is Tera. How’s it going? Have you ever been curious about why some people are very good at recognizing people? Btw, my junior high school teacher has such amazing talent. He could almost match our names with our faces within a day on the first day of the semester. In fact, human beings have this kind of ability because there’s a dedicated area, which is called the fusiform face area, for it. These days, facial recognition is not just facial recognition itself, it has been widely used in technology. Check out the video to find out how our brain functions, and after finishing the daily sentence, I’ll get back to discuss where facial recognition technology, specifically, is used.

Featured sentence: Because of this tendency to construct an "average face" from all of ones that we see, we're more likely to remember distinctive faces,

Tips:
1. tendency: three syllables with the stress on the first one. The two nasal sounds, /n/, are important when pronouncing, and "c" in the last syllable has a /s/ sound.
2. construct: two syllables with the stress on the second one. "con" is /kən/, whereas "struct" is /strʌkt/. Notice that there are consonant clusters, so be sure to pronounce them clearly.
3. average: "average" has three syllables and the stress is on the first one. Even though it has three syllables, when we speak faster, we tend to pronounce it as two. Namely, "ave-rage".
4. distinctive: three syllables with the stress on the second one. Remember to pronounce the "c", as a /k/ sound, in the stressed syllable.

Vocab:
tendency (n.) KK [ˋtɛndənsɪ] IPA /ˈten.dən.si/
def: a likelihood to happen or to have a particular characteristic or effect
傾向
There is a tendency for mass shootings to rise in the States recently.
最近美國的大規模射擊案有增加的傾向。

construct (v.) KK [kənˋstrʌkt] IPA /kənˈstrʌkt/
def: to build something or put together different parts to form something whole
建造
The latest linguistics theory was constructed by a leading research group.
最新的語言學理論是由一個領先的研究團隊建立的。

distinctive (adj.) KK [dɪˋstɪŋktɪv] IPA /dɪˈstɪŋk.tɪv/
def: marking something as clearly different from others
有特色的;特殊的
Her very distinctive characteristic makes her an excellent teacher.
她非常特殊的個性使她成為一個傑出的老師。

Outro:
It’s terrific, isn’t it? Based on how our brains figure out different faces, facial recognition technology uses computer-generated filters to transform face images into numerical expressions that can be compared to determine the similarities and differences. That is why when a photo is posted on the feed, Facebook can easily detect who those people also in the photo might be and automatically generate a tag for you. That is also why your mother can’t access the information in your cellphone with ease ‘cause Apple’s face ID function is another common application existing in life. Not to mention those used in the field of automobile security, access control, immigration…there’s a lot. Can you come up with another of them? Share it with me down below. Alrighty, we are all wrapped up. This is Tera. See you soon.

☺Because of this tendency to construct an "average face" from all the ones we see, we're more likely to remember distinctive faces.
因為人腦傾向於從我們所有見過的人中建立一個「大眾臉」,所以相形之下我們會比較容易記得「有特色」的臉。
【心得】認臉能力我還算可以,但記名字的能力我就很"金魚腦":p
