While a cult leader uses personal charisma to attract initial followers, further expansion works like a pyramid scheme, with earlier members recruiting new ones.
1.1 charisma [kəˋrɪzmə] (n.) 非凡的領導力;魅力 Our first vocab word is charisma. Charisma is a kind of attractiveness or charm that usually makes people interested in someone or makes them feel devotion to someone. And it’s kind of like a special power almost that some people have naturally and makes it easier for them to influence other people and attract other people’s attention and admiration so often leaders have charisma. And because they have charisma they are supposed by other people it’s easy for them to get followers. So someone who has charisma is well like and they can be a leader pretty easily. And an example sentence would be David’s charisma makes easy for him to make friends. 1.2 charismatic [͵kærɪzˋmætɪk](adj.)有魅力的 Alright, the next word is related to charisma and it is charismatic. Charismatic is an adjective and it means having charisma. So an example sentence would be: Many people consider Obama to be a charismatic leader. So in this sentence, we’re talking about a leader that is charismatic. And as mentioned before, a lot of leaders are charismatic because of course, you attract people you make people like you, want to follow you then that’s easier to become a leader.
2.1 initial [ɪˋnɪʃəl] (adj.) 開始的、最初的 Alright, our next vocabulary word is initial. Initial is an adjective and it means happening at the beginning of something. So an example sentence would be: The project is only in its initial stages. There is still a long way to go. So when we say here that there’s a project in its initial stages, we mean that that’s project just beginning. 2.2 initially [ɪˋnɪʃəlɪ] (adv.) 最初
The next world is related to initial and it is initially. So initially is basically just the adverb form of initial. So it basically means at first. And an example sentence would be: Initially, I thought Diane was a joking but it turned out that she was serious. So in the sentence, you could also use at first here since initially means at first. You could say: At first, I thought Diane was a joking but it turned out that she was serious.
3.1 pyramid scheme (pht.) 老鼠會 Alright, the next word is pyramid scheme. So pyramid scheme is a phrase. And this is a dishonor and usually easy-go business and in this type of business, people are convinced to invest money or pay money and then their money is used to pay people who invest first. So basically they are the last people at the top of pyramid scheme that’s why called a pyramid scheme. Because if you were to think of people they are involved in it, they would be the last at the top so would be smaller and they would be more and more people as you went down and it would make kind of a pyramid shape. But basically the people at the top are last and they are for to get more money and people follow and follow down in the pyramid and get less and less money. They not really sell anything, not really offer any service or doing anything to get this money. They’re simply getting more people involved business or cheat them into part of them and they’re taking their money and paying the people on the top with that money. So that’s why it’s not a very good thing. An example sentence would be: I think this business is actually just a pyramid scheme. 3.2 scam [ˋskæm] (n.) 騙局 Alright, the next word is related to pyramid scheme and it is scam. So a scam is a noun and what we just talk about a pyramid scheme could be considered a type of scam. A scam is a dishonor’s way to make money by cheating people. And an example sentence would be: My grandmother lost a thousand dollars because of a credit scam.
4.1 recruit [rɪˋkrut] (v.) 吸收;徵募 Alright, our next word is recruit so recruit is a verb and it means to choose and convince someone to join an organization or to work for a company. And we often use this word recruit when we’re talking about the army. So if the army is trying to find new people to join them, new soldiers, then that could be considered recruiting. And an example sentence would be: The animal shelter is recruiting volunteers. So in this sentence, we are talking about animal shelter and they are recruiting or finding and convincing people to join them and be volunteers. 4.2 recruiter [rɪˋkrutɚ] (n.) 招聘人員;徵兵人員 Our last word is recruiter. So a recruiter is a person whose job is to recruit people. So to find people and convince them to join something whether it’s a company, an organization or the army forces. And an example sentence would be: Henna’s modeling career began when the recruiter spotted her on the street. So in this case, the recruiter is working for a modeling agency and the recruiter see someone who that think can be a model called Henna and that’s how Henna’s modeling career began.
