  • Now don't forget to tweet the show at Sunday.

  • Sup on the vessel appear on the screen over the next 90 minutes or so.

  • Now, before we take our usual look at the back pages, we have some sad news on Sunday supplement this week with the sudden Parsi of our former producer Mike Curry, who worked for Sky Sports for 25 years.

  • Martin.

  • You knew Mike very well.

  • And, of course, his dad, Steve, What's he like to work with?

  • What was going Mike was, Mike came from it, said It's a different era that Mike started working on that show because, um, it was it was completely amateur.

  • Basically, it was.

  • It was four guys around the table, none of the home of all castes.

  • It's none of our professional broadcasters, many of whom had no broadcast experience whatsoever.

  • I'm like great talent.

  • Waas the major feel very, very relaxed.

  • I mean, hugely relaxed.

  • And so you just felt you was having a really having a chat with your mates basically on.

  • And there was no no doubt he waas talking to people.

  • We would no doubt he was producing the show as such.

  • But you never got that feeling.

  • And that was really, really important at the time, because your professional, because we had Jimmy Hill, but it wasn't actually Jimmy was almost a guest on his own show.

  • Brian anchor the show, and again, you know, Brian, what growing was a journalist, And so, Michael, this way of making you feel relaxed.

  • Um, I've been doing it since it was owned Friday night.

  • I thought, What would it was Hold backpage when was hold about marriage on Friday night and Kevin Keegan resigned.

  • I was in the manager.

  • The following die in one of the things that he cited Waas the absolute paste you got on the back page before for the Germany game when it was known that he was gonna pick go South Gate in central midfield on whoever were the guest that night.

  • Just just went for it on the following day when when Kevin resigned.

  • That was one of the things that he actually excited.

  • You have no faith in me or you don't think I know nothing about football.

  • Wherever I saw hold about plays last night, Mike, you know, Mike was a producer in the air and that that's what it was like.

  • And it's a bit, you know, I think that a face in filmmaking kind of angle cats and it was a little bit would have been a little bit like that, you know?

  • And yet somehow nobody swore and weigh all got through it.

  • And how did you quite that it was a really good life, Really.

  • It was really good.

  • Yeah, very much so.

  • Thank you so much for that.

  • And our thoughts very much with Mike's wife, Sam on little daughter Milly.

  • So sorry for your loss.

  • Now moving on to this morning's backpage is well, I think you can quite possibly guess what is dominating the back of the newspapers.

  • The Sun Rail Step up Sterling Chase.

  • Which is as a result, of course, off that two year ban as things down pending appeal for Manchester City for a supposedly breaking F f P regulations.

  • On the back off The Sunday Times is Tet one of his many trophies.

  • The death off the dream.

  • Jonathan North Croft going into detail there along with David Walsh on the shaming as they describe it off Manchester City.

  • Plenty off inside analysis in loads of the newspaper today, if not all of them.

  • The Telegraph Have Pochettino waiting in the wings for band Manchester City.

  • If that man does indeed go ahead.

  • Sabio Marnie, The Super Selby got half an hour for Liverpool and was the match winner for them at Norwich last night of bleary eyed multi Ogden is gonna tell us about shortly on a bit of a truck back blessing on any express money off the moment, with Liverpool beating Norridge City Keeping close.

  • I'm posture t know also in there, and there's plenty, by the way, in the Observer today.

  • Should you want to be reading a lot about Manchester City, then you can read a lot about it in The Observer.

  • Huge amounts of analysis there Barney Ronay has his say on dhe Plenty analysis on what it could entail for them on Jim Holden in The Sunday Express European ban.

  • A test of character but Guardiola So we're here to stay on lots of its and butts, by the way, in all of this, which is what we are here to debate now just to clarify city being banned.

  • As things stand from your wife competition for two years find almost £25 million as a result, potentially as well facing probably points deduction Were that to happen after you.

  • A first say that city committed serious breaches of its financial fair play regulations.

  • They found that city overstated their sponsorship revenue between 2012 2016.

  • They fell to cooperate with the investigation.

  • So they say city, on the other hand, denied all wrongdoing.

  • They say it was a prejudicial decision and well, they certainly will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sports.

  • They have another eight days in which to lodge that appeal.

  • But they certainly will be doing so.

  • They say at the earliest opportunity.

  • And they say that you have ignored irrefutable evidence on there will be more financial documents to be coming out during the course off that hearing.

  • So Mark Nice, easy one for you on that.

  • But the appeal is pending, of course.

  • But what do you think this ban were to stand?

  • Would meal mean for the club?

  • For pep?

  • For the players who all had a meeting about this on Friday?

  • Well, the back page of the sun, the picture, the one city, but frightening too homes.

  • Little piece is perfect because that is exactly where we are right now.

  • It's There are so many elements to this which could could happen.

  • It could be it could affect your future.

  • The players future the finest of the club with so many elements which we don't know the answer to it right now, because if this girl's do is is that we devastated him on city because two years of that champion league football will hit the finances of the club.

  • It means we'll be able to pay the way to.

  • The players will be paid back.

  • Really.

  • Always.

  • Wages will be out to keep the place and pep happy at the club in terms of satisfy other ambitions.

  • Book is basically a step on the road on the road just to get a long way to room, because my city will fight this tooth and nail because you know they've no this has been coming.

  • They have known that your way for being trying to find a way to support the wind, really on this bunny is it's pretty extreme in the sense that a two year plan for the Champions League, I think, is unprecedented in terms of a club of this stature.

  • But it leaves so many questions left to be answered in the papers today.

  • Clarify that because we're asking question about perhaps future about the place future about what happens next.

  • Well, even soccer Sheffield United.

  • Maybe in the Champions League next season.

  • There's so many strings to it.

  • But right now we're not in a place where we know what's gonna happen because they will appeal.

  • They might get a bun, have to make it overturned.

  • There's too many things that need to be resolved where we can find out exactly what happened.

  • What?

  • Did you have any sympathy with City over this situation?

  • Absolutely.

  • I mean, I think we make women.

  • Should we discuss some financial fair play in the next part of starting it?

  • Now, Theo, I know you do have sympathy for sitting because City are the rules are I have been put in place to protect a tiny band off elite clubs.

  • You can you can talk about being leads or Portsmouth, or this is what it was about.

  • But this is not about later ports with If you want to tell us what ports was happening, uh, you would stop loans from the owner of the club.

  • Everything would have to be a gift if you wanna stop pulse without, because what happened?

  • Reports with was Theo No.

  • Gave them a huge amount of money on then.

  • Fuck.

  • His financial circumstances changed and then he wanted it all back apartment.

  • Didn't have the money to give him back because ports with living by beyond their means because of his money.

  • So if you turn everything that's alone into A into a gift, it's got to be a gift.

  • You could stop portal happy.

  • This is so This is not about this is about cementing.

  • Um, it's about pressing the pause button on football.

  • And so the only Wayne long term I'm not talking about a miracle.

  • I'm not talking about Lester.

  • Lester was a miracle.

  • And then the following season, they thought they were gonna get relegated.

  • That sounds sustainable, you know, as a long term project.

  • So the the only way of getting in what was to spending this money that was the otherwise They just sit there like Lester having mansion.

  • I take their best players, Wayne Rooney ever to real people.

  • Talk about clubs can grow organically, huh?

  • You tell me how everything can grow organically.

  • If if they were a lovely little pop, Wayne Rooney, we've got we've got Moon.

  • But the best young player in English football A mansion tonight, coming on one is still a teenager going with, so you know, organically.

  • So this was the only way this thing is.

  • Big clubs have created this situation on your wife have created this situation with their Champions League money.

  • That is so The only way you could get in is to is to try to match this this arm, this arms race, this financial homicides.

  • So that's what you don't agree with.

  • The concept of F f.

  • P is definitely has to play by the rules and the regulations as they are.

  • Which city insists that they have done, by the way?

  • Yeah, exactly.

  • But you wait to say the's the regulations to try to ensure football is fair.

  • Yeah.

  • I mean, sometimes you could be on the wrong side of the rules on the right side of the argument.

  • If you look at this wind rush, deportations and things like that, you could be on the wrong side of the walls on the right side of the argument.

  • Um, you know, I don't believe I personally, um, everyone thinks, you know, if you don't support financial fair play, you're some sort of laissez faire capitalist that wants everyone to be a faux money every day.

  • What would solve this is proper financial regulation.

  • So instead of giving all the money from the Champions League 245 elite clubs.

  • You give it to the majority of it to the league, 75% to the league.

  • Let's say 25% of the clubs now you've got now you've got competitive league.

  • If you if you do that, that would be That would be a huge, huge star.

  • But I want Melissa In the Observer today, Barney Ronay says, Good luck trying to persuade a crop of high class, midcareer, elite level players to miss two years of top table football.

  • I think top table football rather than top table football.

  • That could play that no problem whatsoever.

  • But I mean, it will be a challenge if this van is upheld, whether it's one year, two years, if it's not overturned altogether, how do you see City going forwards Were that to be the case?

  • It's incredibly difficult because the Champions League revenue in terms off, you know, the broadcasting fees, the gate receipts, just the prestige of the competition itself.

  • So you have the financial elements off them, not actually being able to pay the wages that they are able to at the moment.

  • Without that revenue, their profits will drop.

  • I think that actually become a loss making club at that point.

  • There's also reputational damage in terms of the project for Abu Dhabi, which is is not very helpful when you want to be associated with beautiful football and, you know, having the best manager in the world and all that.

  • And then, you know, there's all these question marks against you about how you've gone about doing that.

  • Um, so, yeah, in terms of really every element off city as we know them at the moment is in threat.

  • Um, I think you know when we talk about F f p.

  • And when we talk about city, there can be two different strands of thought.

  • You can think f f p s floored, and you can also believe that hang on.

  • You signed up to this.

  • You should actually be playing by the rules as everybody else's or you know you way for.

  • Say, it's not just that they've breached the rules.

  • It's that they've misled with information on dhe that they've, um, being antagonistic during approach.

  • That's not helping the investigation.

  • Not being a collaborative now city denial that But you know what you weigh for saying you can still you can think if if P has its floors and you can still think that you signed up to it like all the other clubs, you have to play along with it.

  • We also talk about, you know, city being curtailed in some way.

  • I mean, city have bean incredibly successful under F F P.

  • They won the domestic trouble, they'd be in the jug.

  • Analysts say completely restructured what it takes to me to win the league in this country.

  • Set a new benchmark that you know Liverpool Little Pool are where they are right now because of the standard city set before them.

  • I think Jorgen Cup made that point.

  • Their football has been exceptional, so city have not been impeded by F F P in becoming successful.

  • That's a Miss Noma on DDE.

  • F F P is not about competitive balance.

  • That wasn't it same when it was introduced and this is quite a sophisticated system that, you know, top accountants worked on Deloitte worked on and it was to prevent debt.

  • And when I say you can think it's flawed, the Glazer situation that united that shouldn't be happening.

  • For example, however, cubs have bean recording profits under F F P.

  • So I think you know when we talk about it, you can believe that.

  • Yeah, it's not the absolute best, but club should still be abiding by it.

  • Because I signed up to the place is the issue because players will just look at themselves in the day.

  • And, I mean, when you Ventress were demoted after the match fixing scandal in Italy and Patrick Vieira's, we're the first ones to be often he's still low.

  • Think you're in because you left your mentors when they were relegated and players can talk about loyalty and how much they kiss the budget?

  • Look, the club have you.

  • If they feel that their careers being damaged by being a tribe that can't offer them what they want, they'll find a way to get out.

  • And, you know, there are cities, big players, people Raheem Sterling, Kevin O'Brien along long term contract.

  • So there's no way that said to let this place leave easily.

  • But if they were in a situation where the Champions League for two years, we can't generate the income to pay these players, the players are all mid to late twenties.

  • None of the Champions League yet, and if they stay at city for the next two years, I'm going with that.

  • Keeping this place to be hard to start leads different circumstances, similar in a way that once I want to club, count off for the players what they signed up for, they'll be off on.

  • Their agents will be busy trying to fight.

  • I imagine Now they'll be players with agents at Man City who will already investigated where they could go next season.

  • If this bunny's upheld, would expect those conversations to be have now bear in mind that the appeal hasn't even gotten in yet.

  • But do you think that's what would have happened?

  • They had that meeting foreign?

  • Soriano.

  • Yes, day after they came back on Friday, the place will be informed.

  • Do you think about something that's just natural when it comes a top level football, that agent, suddenly there is will pick up.

  • Yeah, I mean, whatever the players might be saying, or, you know, agents, the agents will be working on on stage two on Biff.

  • If you were a prior, you would expect that of your agent.

  • I don't see.

  • I don't see any a problem with that as such.

  • And you can't just say, Well, you know, the club set to us.

  • We've got a good chance.

  • The Court of Arbitration.

  • You can't say that because you don't know what's gonna happen there.

  • You'd look at the two years onion and cynically, you'd say I wonder if they've given him two years because they go to cast cast finds a little bit for sitting in a little bit for you, Ava, and splits the difference.

  • And they get a one year ban.

  • But you can't go and see that because I think it was Galata.

  • So I went there and got nothing out of gas.

  • You young from the castle's biggest clients.

  • I mean, you know that it's true.

  • I think they are their biggest client.

  • So you don't think there's more appeals?

  • Go to cats about stuff that you want for it, and then just about anybody else so you can't go and say you're gonna get the decision.

  • Um, you did manage to attract players before they reached this situation whereby they won the Premier Ling before they became successful, as they have the likes of tethers company.

  • Admittedly, before he became such a big name, but Aguero David Silver came before they were as enormous as they are.

  • Pet has a great relationship with the owner's.

  • Doesn't mean can you see a situation whereby actually they just gotta hang tight and on That relationship is good and and it won't be that long before they get a result is toe knowing what's gonna happen, I would expect before the start of next season.

  • I think that's the idea.

  • Ideal scenario For all the speculation around Gaudio this future, he's being pretty adamant that he wants to see out his contract.

  • Um, the players names you've mentioned there, Aguero.

  • He's Bean so loyal to city I mean, you know, there's Bean the option off Real Madrid, Barcelona He is probably the premier Li expressed marksman of the last a few years and yet he's remained.

  • But all of this all these players have had that cold to be the players.

  • The group that wins the Champions League with City and this tournament is is still the outstanding thing that makes them.

  • You know, that super club top level elite club.

  • You want to win the Champions League, you want to be in that conversation you want to be spoken about with the likes of Buy In and and Madrid and Barcelona Liverpool, but that for all the talk of loyalty and for all the time they've spent their and for all the good intentions, if you are prevented from doing your job to the best of your ability or your career's has a ceiling on it, you do think about it and you do consider your options.

  • It's so difficult to speak about this situation because it's all up in the air and we can only sort of speculate and and think about what could potentially happen.

  • But there's still so much of this, Your Honor, if if this is upheld and it's Liverpool, say, for instance, decide that Kevin Brown is the one place that commit them better if Liverpool, probably for Kevin O'Brien, is probably champions.

  • Potential Champs League Willis.

  • How did Man City stop Kevin Bryana being interested in a move to Liverpool are after the same?

  • I want to get a little bit.

  • I know it's a Lexus hypothetical book.

  • Liverpool now are the best team in England, the best team in Europe, an attractive proposition for any player.

  • If your club isn't in the Champions League with extra season, how do you stop being interested?

  • Violet?

  • Well, you make it really mind about that.

  • That suffice to say it's city rain, extremely confident that once all the evidence has been held by impartial process which is the key to this from their point of view and impartial process, they are very confident that they will prevail.

  • We shall see now coming up in part two.

  • We look at Liverpool's relentless march to the Premier League title despite all of that a little bit more breaking news.

  • Liverpool of one of probably league football match.

  • Who'd have thought that?

  • When was the last time we saw that?

  • Well, not for a while, actually.

  • Mar nee the hero yesterday at Carrow Road right on the right, on the money.

  • What was the money?

  • I got no money.

  • Some of these plants somebody you're looking at it and thinking, and you have to go back about three times the money.

  • Thank you.

  • Glad you're here.

  • That would come in useful one day.

  • Extremely useful.

  • You might need to be useful to find the other part of this particular Moneda Centurion as well.

  • So he has now reached 100 goals in English football, with 1/4 of them coming for South Hampton and the rest for Liverpool on Dull.

  • There's another man a pun c Get it this time.

  • Excellent.

  • Thank you for that.

  • S o Liverpool have now made it quite extraordinary.

  • 103 Premier League points from a possible 105 when you go back to last season which, if you support them, is a wonderful thing.

  • And even if you don't as an extraordinary thing I mean, you were at Carrow Road yesterday and literally just got here back now, didn't you, after your nice train journey, but very, very hold work for them yesterday.

  • How much of that you think was down Thio conditions that had a breakage needed toe get wrong to the game.

  • And how much time to Norwich?

  • A lot.

  • It was not a direct actually, I was really impressed with your ex last night and remember it back to the first game of the season on field on the Friday like where they gave you, would put a real scare lost for one of them.

  • But still it was A.

  • It was a It was a tough night political.

  • Before they got control, Norwich were.

  • We're up for it on and they gave it a better girl than most teams were given against the policies and hit the Poles.

  • Second half with that went nto effort.

  • But Liverpool just get the job done and no matter how well the plane and I didn't play badly yesterday, they just managed to get the job done.

  • A clock made a substitution, brought Marley on.

  • Marty's got the goal and it was just a another performance of champions where they just ground out.

  • The statistics are ridiculous.

  • Outlet.

  • I mean, 24 winds, 25 or 25 26 25.

  • You're losing count now.

  • Consecutive games with goals that I have the six or seven behind our stalls all time record or be on record and I'm stuck in the top flight.

  • All these records are gonna go on.

  • The debate will start, but it's just the greatest team ever.

  • And you know, we have that debate two years ago about city and peple.

  • You can't argue against Liverpool because that just relentless on Dhe clearly gonna win the league I mean, that's a case of one rather than But I think I can't stand will stop in the Champions League either, because that just just a perfect machine right now.

  • I mean, you're a bit of a Liverpool.

  • Experts think it's fair to say Melissa, I mean, what do you think has been the main key to this extraordinary success mentality?

  • Actually, when you speak to other managers and go to other clubs and they talk about Liverpool at the moment, they say performance is excellent because they've got variety, different ways to win games.

  • But when you are so successful and Julian Ogle Zeman brought this up when I went to interview him.

  • When you are so successful, when you're so far ahead off the next best team in the league and yet you still do everything to win and you still want to be better and you still want to find a way.

  • That relentless edge is what he's trying to teach to his players.

  • Look, look at this club that are so far in the ascendancy and yet they still keep going as our referenced.

  • I think Liverpool have played this way because they realized you have to be practically perfect to win the Premier League in the ERA off off Manchester City.

  • Um, the fact that they got 97 points last season and didn't do it, I think that just spread them on like there's no way we are going to go so close, and not that we're going to give it absolutely everything on push ourselves over.

  • I think the defense is probably doesn't get spoken enough because of all the attacking talent that Liverpool have but 10 clean treats in 11.

  • Just one goal conceded in that sequence when they've played Tottenham United.

  • Lester Sheffield, Um, Sheffield United, it's It's just staggering, and their brilliance is almost now ordinary and normal.

  • Which is odd to say.

  • Alison makes a sensational save yesterday, and it doesn't even get talking about.

  • We'll talk about Marnie's goal less the decisive.

  • It's going to make a pone about Marnie.

  • Yeah, Alison's just Bean outstanding to think that he missed, You know, so many.

  • I think it was like 44 days of 66 days or something off the season, and it's still going to win the Golden Gloves.

  • Virgil Van Dyke hasn't even being spoken about in, you know, player of the season and in terms off awards.

  • But he's a nine out of 10 every week, so I think the fact that they've made this excellent, so ordinary is's remarkable starting Anything new to say about Liverpool isn't Martin.

  • But you've watched all these top teams over so many years.

  • Now, how do you think this side compares to some of the great?

  • But if you if you look at the numbers, if you look at the numbers, if they end up with the numbers that we think they're going to end up I'm not a great believer in this.

  • Oh, you've gotta win it three times on the turn.

  • You go when you go to retain this.

  • You know, you can be You can be wonderful for a year.

  • You could be magnificent for year.

  • Um, you know, if, uh if Nick Drake had never made a noble rather than pink moon, he would still be a genius.

  • If there was never any album mother in the clashes, first out, there would still be one of the greatest bands ever been.

  • So you know, you can be great for a season.

  • So if this, You know, they don't have to win it next year.

  • They probably will win it next year.

  • If you take Man City out of the equation of what happens to my own city, what we think will happen to Man City happens to Man City.

  • Who's gonna catch them?

  • The team that's 35 points behind at the moment, that thing that's 41 points behind them at the moment.

  • I mean, it was good it was gonna make that difference up in one summer.

  • So this is I think this is an exceptional team.

  • I think the recruitment is the greatest recruitment I've ever seen by any club I really do, because everybody that they have bought just fixing everybody that they have bought buys into what crook wants it on what clock wants to do isn't normal.

  • The level of energy that that Liverpool expounding in every single game, isn't it?

  • It's not necessarily like playing for another club.

  • Um, I should be there in the fight.

  • I should be dead on that.

  • You see, the way they run about that should be drinking that fate.

  • But they're not on dhe.

  • That means because they know Trent Alexander on order haven't all come from the academy.

  • They haven't all been bought these guys in and he's got them remarkable.

  • Absolutely.

  • Mark way.

  • Always say that the true mark of a great team is one of the Champions League, but already done that.

  • You know the pencils.

  • I didn't do it chosen to bring.

  • I didn't do it now, since you haven't done it but little club than it already is.

  • So they've already achieved that market greatness before.

  • Win the league.

  • And it's, you know, the fact that I haven't lied for 30 years is an anomaly, but I'm gonna do it this year.

  • So they got the Champions League.

  • They got the league, got close to winning the championship again.

  • And no team is that on the real Madrid of one of one, but about European Cups in different eras, you know?

  • So this is again.

  • They live with it in the 18 seventies, he could do it again.

  • Now they are one of the great seems, and you talk about doesn't have to be prolonged.

  • We'll ask.

  • The principal didn't retain it.

  • Incense and one of the greatest change absolute thing.

  • A little police that could be the second invincible.

  • Sorry, sorry, Preston funds, but they could be another invincible that could break my city's under points record.

  • They could smash every record.

  • So if they do that, it's impossible to say that none of the great Steve you ever seen because the statistics is back it up.

  • One of the greatest teams.

  • We have a show last season and didn't win the greatest team ever to win the lake.

  • If you look at that point total in and you look at what they did and you look at the run on the records we're talking about now actually start last season.

  • They're one of the greatest things other, the scene and the best thing, never doing the bond that that can happen.

  • You know, I think when when Tiger wins the Masters, when it's the Tiger Slam Lee, I think I think it's do vow kind.

  • Second on would have won the Masters in the year, but four on Phil Mickelson comes third would have won the Masters in a year, but six you know, with with his goings it can happen doesn't mean you don't know what you're about to become.

  • Second to that Manchester City.

  • Melissa's gonna be really interesting now to see between now and the end of the season how much this unbeaten stroke, only dropping points once record is to them when they got so many big games coming up in terms of team selection.

  • Yeah, I think the mentality of the moment.

  • And it feels key shade and sometimes a board of the players saying it all the time, just the next game, the next game.

  • But that is how they are operating.

  • Every opponent gets the same level off respect, same level of preparation.

  • It obviously is more taxing to balance the latter stages off the Champions League with this relentless push with the tight, especially since it's so close.

  • Will there be that release after the title is secured like okay, don't need to go all out anymore or don't need to chase us records, although with well, with what?

  • That dressing room I can't see, then using off.

  • I can't see them thinking are the title security.

  • It doesn't matter if we don't get a break 100 points, so it doesn't matter if we're not invincible.

  • I think obviously the title is is the main thing, but I cannot see them having put this much work in to then ever take the, you know, release sort of.

  • The pressure on themselves does not depend on what team he puts out, because at the moment he's got a think.

  • It's the statistic is yet.

  • Yesterday was the first time the Champions League winning teams band started, although I haven't started all season.

  • But once he's won the league, if there's doing the Champions League, it almost moved.

  • To what if he decides to put out whether it is almost up to him rather than the players?

  • Because if he says to Jordan Henderson, might you need to take a rest this weekend because you know, we're playing Barcelona on Wednesday night or whatever, then you know it doesn't matter how much Jordan wants to make 100 points for style being.

  • He's sitting on the bench and someone else is playing in his place.

  • That's that's That's the interesting thing.

  • That is the interesting thing.

  • What what years and God decides to do?

  • If there's doing the Champions League, I think they will be what he decides to do.

  • Once the league is one.

  • What teams who decides to pick up youngsters as well.

  • Yeah, I think that's why he's right to treat that difficult replaying excuse for the way it did to take the place away because he knows at the end of the season I'm gonna need the energies to push on, Certainly to France, Italy, I think the F A Cup is is a competition that you would not happily for girl.

  • But if they didn't win, I dont think it shed too many tears.

  • They could win it.

  • But I think it's all about the Premier League in the Champions League and I think the chance to smash these records the place to be desperate to do that, they might say that.

  • But to be desperate to break on the point beyond being because we still talking about the Invincibles 15 16 years older, then they will always talk.

  • So the one that pleasure history but the tellers in the mix and well, you know it's just next game, but really only be desperate to break all these records is driving your party.

  • Those journalists, the fact they keep coming out with something you know they have to and you understand why they're doing it.

  • But, I mean, how hard is it to try and get some quiet?

  • It's out there.

  • There's amusing.

  • Hearing them on TV are hard to find something new to say because you got all these guys.

  • I mean, I I went to Norris.

  • That's not thinking Well, there's not much to write, but just in case the draw, just in case the drawer not lose, they might.

  • You know what?

  • The story changed, but it didn't change.

  • But you have to keep going, just in case.

  • It's a just in case situation.

  • But you want the same things.

  • And this time to time.

  • I think you just write your report before you go to a game.

  • Now you have a spare with, just in case they were to drop a couple of points, which would be extraordinary.

  • Yeah, I think the story now is with its chasing the summit.

  • There's such a clear path to how you need to do it when you get there.

  • It's a different challenge to actually stay there, and one of the things livable are are determined to do is not, um, sort of abandoned the principles that got them to where they are, which is very surgical recruitment, spending on the players Virgil Van Dyke and Alison that they believe are absolute transformers trying to anticipate what they need before they may need it.

  • So Liverpool's squad now are all at a very good age.

  • But in two yes time that, you know, 28 becomes.

  • There's a lot of the squad that's on like around 30.

  • So it's now infusing the other talent through which we see with the likes of Harvey Elliot, you know, trying to ease him and gradually, But also you know they'll look to the market for that.

  • There's a lot of need, a want full of a pool to go and make a massive blockbuster by, you know, go and spend £150 million on Jaden Sancho or something.

  • But they only do that for a transformer.

  • Will somebody?

  • They classes that, and if their current front three stays, which they expect them to the summer than there is no need to go and spend that money that that is a departure from what they've done to get them to where they are.

  • So you'll be interesting to see if they actually stick to that policy because there is so much pressure to stay at the summit when you get there, Do you think they'll go big on some of like a Sancho?

  • Do you see that happening?

  • Hey, Will.

  • Yeah, I think.

  • Look, if if on backpage became available are except the bride and that sort of played, of course, they would go for that player.

  • I think they should sign somebody.

  • They shouldn't just stand still and think, you know, the best team will keep it is.

  • But we're just saying they're not reinventing the wheel by planning ahead and being strategic because, you know, it was United went to forgive for three or four different scenes.

  • City did it at the start of their dominance is what good teams doing.

  • It's when that when that breaks down that the problem starts, we start.

  • United may be seen that city because they need left, but me too, right?

  • But you need to replace for Sardinia a lot of things happening at once.

  • Louisville is doing all the great seem to the past, have done just being smart and plunge to three years ahead.

  • It doesn't always stay that way.

  • you know, if they make about signing, that could change everything.

  • I'm not saying they will, but and I haven't been looking at being very kind of smart times.

  • Remarkable detective.

  • One bad sign in to change the whole dynamic.

  • And then the plane captured.

  • You know, if if they make the wrong by if they get the wrong centre half to play outside.

  • And I called it to bring in a San Shaw the golfer and bopping and getting it changed everything that that could be.

  • You know, when you know it's saying Iran, It was a great sign.

  • It was It was just that it was the icing on the cake and the cherry on the ice.

  • Soon it was Ferguson.

  • It wasn't disaster, but it didn't really work out.

  • Wasn't good.

  • So you can what?

  • You can try too hard to get that perfect son to make it all even better.

  • So it just depends on your recruitment.

  • *** as good as it always has been.

  • But it never lasts forever.

  • No, you're the boy is interesting because if you were working on a team of the sea right now, I said this to someone the other day.

  • You just go.

  • One Liverpool.

  • Um, no one else would get from any other club Monday.

  • 11 And someone.

  • Kevin Doughboy.

  • But which Liverpool?

  • Midfield players.

  • You actually say, Oh, you're the world.

  • You're the You're the worst player in this in this little room with, you know, it comes with such a unit that apartment filled.

  • But it is a valid point.

  • Kevin.

  • The border is the one player that you might go.

  • Okay, we'll have 10 red shirts when we're gonna have bomb blue shirt, and that's giving the border.

  • So he's the one thing that they haven't actually go, which were there.

  • It's where the crop thinks they need that play on.

  • Or whether they could use a little pool midfielder.

  • He'd be the first name on the team ship.

  • Kevin, did you know that it was a fitting around this place?

  • Well, they just around, but taking one out of 12 plays right close.

  • You think Steven's right?

  • That I've seen, you know, Luke pull have never replaced even John like for like, you know, Henderson's got the island bond and for being us going the Millers coming book.

  • Come on, Kevin Durant, Brana walks into every midfield in world football.

  • I think he is.

  • He's absolutely masterful tow watch.

  • And I often wonder who's the best player in the Premier League?

  • And I think he's definitely top three and has to play the very final question.

  • This is really mean, molest.

  • I'm gonna put you on the spot.

  • If you have one votes for one Liverpool player to be their player of the season, who would you vote for?

  • That is, if you think about in the break of you one, that's very difficult.

  • But I think Virgil Van Dyke okay, okay, pick you up.

  • You like, out of any of them, couldn't you?

  • Coming up in part three, We're gonna be looking ahead to Chelsea's match against Manchester United, which is on Monday Night Football.

  • I welcome back to Sunday supplement on the back pages today.

  • As you might expect, rather a lot on Manchester City on the f f p situation, something mirror going for more sympathetic approach.

  • This is not Armageddon City convinced that evidence will put them in the clear on overturn the ban.

  • Sorry.

  • Amano there, Cop.

  • Just five wins from title glory.

  • Wonder what happen if they didn't win another game between now and the end of season.

  • If they didn't win another guy, they lost every game and Manchester United one of the game they were still finish above Manchester United.

  • Ouch!

  • Petulant out the truth about the back of the Sunday people Village Bank on Grealish.

  • Break the bank to keep Jack Grealish at the club, says Neil Moxley on Betrayed Luke.

  • Sure says Manchester United Stars have let down all the gonna So Sha this season were certainly a bit more funny for if a play where to actually set notes.

  • All the manager's fault.

  • Not the players, but he's not on poor Pope for a super agent.

  • Meaner Iowa has infuriated Man United by claiming he's had talks to take poor book popper back to inventors.

  • Saying that he does talk to the event is the big boss is now on this Chelsea.

  • When they play Manchester United tomorrow night will go nine points clear of Manchester United if they are to win.

  • How do we have to see this game going?

  • Mark united of beating Chelsea don't get this season.

  • They want their in the kind of cop, but, uh, this is a much bigger again than a car about couple.

  • I think the fact that shells can go nine points clear, that puts United at the top four race for me to do that, I think you know United a struggling out that if the luck striking like girls that got a guard who might make it appear smart.

  • I just think that, you know, it's a desperate need to win this game, but I don't think they will.

  • I think that if they fall nine points behind Shelves in the race for the top four, then the butt of over 12 months ago, but the season featuring out and they're only gonna solksjaer questions being asked about his future, the future, the lock, the players.

  • I mean, what Luke short stays there, but the players letting social.

  • I don't think, you know, talk about State the obvious.

  • But it gets back to social, not Bean qualified are good enough to get the best of those players.

  • I think I think you know he's gonna It's probably a decent job getting united to where they are right now, considering the place let go last summer and the lack of investment in key areas.

  • But that is the worst night I've seen for 30 years.

  • But still this Monday night.

  • And they shouldn't be nine points adrift in the top for the middle of February.

  • So it's Ah, it's gonna be another interesting summer man United night in the table, just a point ahead of Burnley.

  • Who won yesterday your thoughts on Olive in a Social and United.

  • But they will.

  • They seem as if they want to stick with him as if this they regard.

  • This is some sort of long term process that they're going for.

  • We didn't have it a good situation.

  • That's really let's be honest about it.

  • He didn't have a good situation that the buying the recruitment aspect of it has been rather have had it.

  • Now, for once they look for once in the last few years, they don't look as if they've got something coherent policy built around doing what United have always dump Nick everybody else's good players.

  • So you know, happy McGuire.

  • On Monday, Sarko on gains and possibly Madison and Jack Grealish in as if they're going to try to build again, rebuild again around this call of ah young British Premier Li prized.

  • So that's at least that's at least a plane.

  • Um, but it's a long term plan.

  • I mean, that doesn't that doesn't come like in two minutes in the summer.

  • Um, I'm in its ways, which, whether that they keep key on the only gonna socially, is a big problem for me because, you know, he's a he's a legend.

  • Liza is an Old Trafford legend.

  • And you know, Marco no better than me.

  • What fans think, you know, with the fine stomach, then second, only gonna social.

  • Yeah, he would.

  • I think it goes back to another product.

  • Recalculation 2012.

  • I think the point came with even the fund of thinking is a legend.

  • Board is not the number for the club.

  • And I think with Social yes is alleging what?

  • The funds aren't stupid.

  • They realized that this is a guy that got Cardiff relegated and when it is in his first spent, primarily going to spend the rest of his career, manage it in Norway, it's not.

  • It's not good enough for a clever man united stature.

  • The United should be hiring the best best around and then back in the manager.

  • Let's get on with it because we have this conversation all the time.

  • It's all about the structure.

  • United structure is just wrong.

  • They've got you know, Edward was being there for for seven years, and I think I think we're probably think this week is the seventh anniversary.

  • David Gill saying he's standing down to seven years on structure hasn't really changed and we keep hearing about Well, we're gonna invest in scouts were goingto you know, we're gonna have a re, but we're gonna hear the same thing for seven years.

  • We're gonna have more scouts, girl.

  • We're gonna change the system.

  • We're gonna change the way we do things.

  • Why did taken seven years is the longest transitional period of any big club I can never remember.

  • Imagine Real Madrid or Barcelona, you know, having a seven year transition that much in the outer one yet you know, they ask someone.

  • I mean, they're, you know, bomb off the table, But you are still for May.

  • They're not actually in the same statues when united Sari asked the funds, but they're not, You know that they haven't had the same prolong success.

  • They're not the same global structure clubbers united on United.

  • Keep talking about how the finance of the more than anybody else with that starts changing.

  • You know, we're 18 months ago.

  • They said it gonna get dressed of football technical director.

  • Well, that's being kicked in the long grass.

  • Very long grass that what is animal On the You know, Edward is still the guy that signs up the transfers with much of the contract.

  • You'll negotiator and this panel of experts will you know, It's John.

  • You're looking for a midfield on the striker.

  • They spent a month basically haggling over Bring often understand the fiend, still paying pretty much what I didn't want to put the star and signed a guy who's spent the last two years planning China.

  • And you know, I haven't been able to train with the last two weeks because of the Corona minus issue issue.

  • So how did you know?

  • Ended up signing Audina Carlo if it had this great network of scouts and you know the Times in the summer they had a little full right box on the in the in the database when the same won't be psycho.

  • What?

  • They narrowed it down to one per cycle.

  • What database starts hurting the girl up?

  • I think there's a difference between doing what you perceive to be the right thing and the actual right thing.

  • So the whole we really like Bruno Fernandez.

  • But we're not paying over the odds for him.

  • That's the perception that this is the right thing to do to show you're strong.

  • But you end up wasting a month where the player could have come in, made a difference, possibly taking you closer to to the top because they've been lacking creativity, sorely needing it.

  • He's that injection of creativity on Lee to then end up paying the same package deal that was asked of them.

  • But they wasted that time why they wanted to be seen to be doing the right thing.

  • Same with this long term planning and sold try.

  • They want to be seen to be patient, to be following this long term, tempted because it looks like the right thing to do.

  • But is it the right manager?

  • Where is the evidence that he's put in place a successful long term template anywhere he when they brought him in, they brought him in as Katica charge.

  • He went on a very good run, the emotion and all that.

  • The clamour from former players and stuff to get him the position on a permanent basis is what actually got him the position, not his attributes or a CV or his, you know, or the evidence that he could for the next five years turned them into the elite force that they should be.

  • Sir Alex Ferguson was kidding.

  • I wasn't a yeah, but still that's working in, you know, not working in in reality, off the situation.

  • It's being honest.

  • Appia nostalgia again, Any motive?

  • And I don't think big Cubs should be operating like that.

  • That's what the hell That's what united either This have become this nostalgic club, you know, you only gotta listen to the music on the turn.

  • Eyes where music died in 1991 Old Trafford Now is still not the stun lows.

  • Is this what you're
