  • Welcome back, challengers will today we're talking about something a little bit different than usual.

  • Usually we talk about love and dating, and gossip and army were talking a little bit about gossip today, but not in the usual form.

  • Today we're talking about death.

  • Oh, it's a lot not just death, not just death, celebrity death and how certain celebrity deaths rock our world in ways we don't anticipate.

  • And sometimes we do, like sometimes a celebrity dies and you love them.

  • And you're like, Oh, my God!

  • But sometimes very frequently a celebrity passes away and you're just like someone you had no connection to.

  • Maybe weren't even a fan of them.

  • But still, it just like, hits you hard.

  • And today we're to talk specifically about Caroline Flack.

  • She was a British TV presenter.

  • She hosted Love Island in the UK.

  • I literally probably couldn't pick her out of a lineup.

  • And I was in tears hearing that she had killed herself.

  • Why, we'll break it down.

  • But first just wanna remind you guys to follow me on Instagram.

  • On a lighter note, I don't just post about death about fashion, travel adventures and some daily inspiration.

  • for you guys to keep you on the Alfa female path.

  • Also book a Shout out with me on cameo.

  • I'm available for birthday wishes.

  • Pep talks breaking up with a fuck boy, you name it girl, my gun for hire.

  • So let's get back to to death.

  • Let's let's let's go from the high, Let's go way down low.

  • It seems like there have been a lot of celebrities lately who died.

  • Or maybe I'm literally just thinking of Kobe because that, like, rocked so many of us.

  • I'm from Southern California.

  • Kobe was like a part of life.

  • He lived in Orange County where I live.

  • He's buried in a cemetery where a lot of my friends and family members like have people buried and Kobe is.

  • I mean, he was a legend before he was dead.

  • I mean, he was It was so awful when he died because he just didn't seem like he was supposed to die and which is crazy.

  • But that was just the sense that we all collectively have like, Well, he's not.

  • He can't really be dead.

  • He's not supposed to die like some people.

  • Amanda Bynes.

  • Okay.

  • Ah, Lindsay Lohan.

  • Like you, It would be it would be tragic, but it wouldn't be surprising.

  • But someone like Kobe, who was just so full of life, was like, man, you know, And regardless of what you think about him, if you believe he was a rapist if you believe he was a cheater, whatever means Everly Cheater, like the punishment, is not like him and his daughter die in a helicopter crash.

  • By the way, I googled that that aircraft, the Sikorsky it looks like a private jet inside.

  • Like I thought it was like a like a military chopper like those the only kind of helicopters I've been on because I was an Army ROTC.

  • And so I like it's out of my room of conception.

  • The helicopter's gonna be that nice.

  • I was like, What?

  • It was like a limo.

  • And I just you know, everyone keeps talking about how they were thinking of their final moments, you know?

  • And that's the worst.

  • It's like, you know, you know, and for like a little younger, I'm gonna cry my whole way through this video.

  • But that's kind of the point.

  • It's like, Why did these losses where we have no connection.

  • I I didn't even know if Kobe still played basketball or what team he played for.

  • I mean, I could have deduced that it was the Lakers because of the colors of the jersey, but, like, I'm clearly not a big fan.

  • And I was like All and Caroline Flack.

  • Like I said, I am only vaguely aware of who she is.

  • She hosted the show on Ah, British, to be called Love Island, and there's like Love Island, Australia.

  • There's Love Island America and they have different hopes.

  • She doesn't host them all, and she's only on it for, like, two minutes every few episodes.

  • Like she she doesn't have a big part, but she was only 40 years old, and a lot of you might know Where could she dated?

  • Harry Styles like he loves older women.

  • And, yeah, like That's how you also might know her name.

  • But her death was especially charged because she killed herself, and this is the third person from Love Island who is associated with that show who has committed suicide.

  • Sophie, Graydon and Mike Fellas, I can't put ballast Greek last name.

  • He they both hung themselves, and there's been a lot of backlash with love I'll which I watch, and I really like that the producers of the show they don't really check the mental health of these people and what they're putting them through, and then they just spit them out into, like the Twitterverse and social Media to get just eaten alive.

  • And apparently that's like what got to Mike and Sophie is like they couldn't handle people talking shit about them online.

  • And that seems stupid, right?

  • It seems like you killed yourself because of that.

  • Try it, try it.

  • It's not fun, It's not fun.

  • And I've experienced but a but a ton of babe a fraction.

  • And for every hater there's literally 10,000 of you guys who are my fans and so supportive.

  • And so you have my back.

  • But it's like you focus on the bad things that sticks with you.

  • You know, it's really tough.

  • And Caroline, Her situation was very, very strange, and from what it kind of doesn't make sense to me, and I keep reading about it and read about it.

  • I'm like, Wait, what, like there's something I'm not being told about this.

  • So she was accused of assaulting her Onoff boyfriend, which I guess they're still together because he posted, like a Valentine's thing with her.

  • But she was accused of assaulting him, and he's like, It's fine.

  • It's no big deal.

  • I don't press charges, But the police and CPS were like none in, and now war pressing charges were taking the ship to trial, and her court retrial was coming up.

  • Now, from an outside perspective, she wasn't gonna go to jail.

  • You know, like the doo doo Shia soldiers like It's fine.

  • That's a whole other video of domestic violence.

  • That's a whole other thing, right?

  • That's what we're talking about.

  • But this to us, from our perspective, this was, ah, headache.

  • And it was a mean, a nightmare, a nightmare scenario for everyone involved, but not something that needed to ruin her life and take her life from her mark selling from glee.

  • Remember Pop?

  • He was going to order.

  • He did go to trap, Did he?

  • He he went to trial.

  • He got sentenced, but he hadn't started serving his sentence.

  • Theater maybe hadn't done sons for child porn, thousands and thousands and thousands of images on his computer.

  • That's the dude who kills himself like a suicide is awful.

  • I've experienced in my own family, okay?

  • My father committed suicide.

  • But, like you can see why someone who's convicted of child porn would be like, This is the end for me.

  • I'm never coming back from this.

  • Someone who is accused of assault, like simple assault.

  • Even if the judge threw the book at her, what would that be?

  • A few months of probation.

  • Do you know what I mean?

  • It was like, what?

  • So clearly there were other issues at play here.

  • There were clearly mental health issues that producers at Love Island didn't know or care about.

  • And I mean, on one hand, why should why should they?

  • You know, Does your boss care about your mental health?

  • Probably not.

  • You know, I mean, you're commodity and I have been in TV, and I've had my own TV show, and I have never been treated so poorly in my life.

  • Like I was treated like chattel, like an absolute animal.

  • Sometimes, like, you know, like, if you don't like a fuck, you will cancer show and cast someone else.

  • Like, you know, there's not a lot of like empathy going on there.

  • So I asked you guys, what celebrity deaths really, really rocked your world?

  • Because I'm gonna divide them into three categories, and we're gonna talk about how each Why each one, like, gets to us.

  • Oh, and yes, I'm where I have, like, sad clothes that I wear when I'm sad.

  • You have, like, fun going out clothes I have.

  • I have a sad wardrobe, and chief among them is this golden Girls shirt that says Stay golden.

  • My friend Becker got it for me at Kohl's, and it's like, almost worn out its hideous What I We're not sad.

  • It's like my emotional support shirt.

  • Then I have my emotional support.

  • Octopus.

  • This is pulpy.

  • It's Italian for octopus.

  • You can't look at this face and not smile.

  • Just let let pulpy wash over you.

  • Uh, and then I wrap his little tentacles around my arms.

  • It's sort of like this comforting BDs m thing.

  • We sleep.

  • It's really neither here nor there.

  • You stay there, I'll be back.

  • It's your right anyway.

  • So I asked you, who rocked your world in terms of the celebrity death.

  • Okay, so there's three categories I identified well kind of four.

  • There's the childhood nostalgia, people who remind us of our own mortality, suicides and then people who remind us of both our childhood and our own mortality.

  • So when a childhood nostalgia, Big one Alan Rickman Fuck, that fucked me up.

  • Alan Rickman.

  • If Professor Snape could die, parents could die.

  • We can die.

  • And what what messed me up about Alan Rickman was he was just like one day dead.

  • Same with David Bowie because they died.

  • I think, what, within a week of each other a month, very, very close together.

  • And it was like we didn't know anything was wrong.

  • And I remember telling my friend I was like they died as they lived with dignity and that, like, Oh, it hurt.

  • It hurt because I feel like that's rare.

  • These days you have people being like cancer diary, Day one, and look, I get why people do that in no shame in that.

  • But I am really super private about my health.

  • And I was like, Man, I realize I say private about my health because I think that if I don't inhabit a diagnosis like if I had not like cancer run and this is I don't have cancer, But like then it won't get me.

  • You know that I really believe in positive thinking and how our mind creates our body.

  • And I'm like, Wait a minute.

  • If Alan Rickman wasn't publicly defining himself as this person battling cancer, same with David Bowie and it's still took him.

  • Maybe my like superstitions for staying safe and keeping my family safe.

  • Maybe they don't work, and that's why it messed me up so bad.

  • People like Prince.

  • That was a big one for you guys.

  • Princess Diana.

  • I still remember where I was when I heard it was off, and same with JFK Junior and Carolyn, because I had to leave class like I was very young and I was like, I can't do it.

  • It was awful.

  • Robin Williams, that was another one.

  • That, and we'll talk about this more later.

  • But it's what is especially jarring is people who seem to have it all taking their own life and cause then you're like my idea of happiness and my metric a success, which I see in those people clearly ain't right.

  • So then what am I myself striving for?

  • I wanted a life.

  • Perhaps not like Robin Williams, specifically, but funny.

  • Beloved, scandal free.

  • It's like, Wait a minute.

  • If that man who brought so many smiles of so many people was so miserable, he took his own life.

  • Does happiness even exist?

  • These air existential questions, right?

  • They are deep and they are gnarly.

  • And this this is why people are religious, let you get it.

  • Wow!

  • One of my friends Oh, my God.

  • Literally.

  • I can't even talk about She lost her side to cancer and her Mormon faith.

  • God.

  • Huh?

  • Huh?

  • Huh But it's you get it, you get it, You know, because there's you want to think that there's a higher power making sense of something.

  • Also, some of us said John McCain.

  • I know.

  • I know that fucking bag a shit.

  • Dick Cheney.

  • He'll live forever.

  • He will outlive us all.

  • And John McCain is gone.

  • Robin Williams is guard.

  • Okay, So there's people whose suicides affected us a lot.

  • Anthony Bourdain, Kate Spade, Alexander McQueen, Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, you know, from Lincoln Park and Soundgarden again, it's people who, like have so much and you just think like dude, Whatever the problem was we could have fixed it like this too shall pass, You know, like you weren't in the mark selling child porn category.

  • It's like whatever was wrong, like, man.

  • And it just feels senseless.

  • And then you get angry, right?

  • Then comes the anger.

  • Suicide leaves so much, so much anger in its wake.

  • I experience it every single day of my life, and I will for the rest of my life.

  • And you don't know how to process it.

  • You don't know how to mourn for someone that is making you so fucking mad, and it seems so senseless, you know?

  • So there was that taps into that and the feeling of unfairness that we feel in life in a 1,000,000 different categories, from parking spaces to suicide.

  • It's just like what?

  • This isn't right.

  • And then you have the most jarring category of all deaths that remind us of our own mortality, right?

  • Because we're young and we think of death.

  • We think of like grand parents, the golden girls.

  • Oh my God.

  • When Betty White past, don't, I will be done like I will be out of For what?

  • Everything.

  • About everything.

  • About because she reminds me of my grandmother, my grandparent's.

  • I would all get together all four like generations.

  • We were like the Golden Girls would watch the Golden Girls when they were on.

  • It was like that was some of the happiest times when I was really young and, you know, I still watch it.

  • I watch them every single day.

  • I have every sport hemorrhoids, so that's hard so that people who remind us of our own mortality overwhelmingly, you guys said Mac Miller, you know, and a V H e.

  • That was huge.

  • Juice world Corey Mon teeth from glee.

  • Every single one of those people are dead from drugs or alcohol.

  • Every single one.

  • I've actually heard that Evite she was murdered.

  • Did you watch TV?

  • CI documentary.

  • I think it's on Netflix or who?

  • Lou.

  • It's very Avicii apologised.

  • It's like it was.

  • It seemed to be more of like a PR saying than the truth about his his alcohol use.

  • He's like, I just have one or two drinks tonight, bro.

  • You had cirrhosis of the liver like you.

  • That's not that's not possible, you know, and it's like it was frustrating for me as a fan toe like watch that and be like I'm not getting the whole story here.

  • This is And it's upsetting because it's leading his his more naive fans in the directions like, yeah, like it wasn't drugs or alcohol that killed him.

  • Yeah, it Woz and he Maybe he did take his own life, but that is fueled by on addiction.

  • Because people don't get involved in addiction when they're happy, you know?

  • But the mortality aspect, young people aren't supposed to die right there.

  • Just not.

  • And then again, you feel angry cause it's like juice World made me so angry.

  • It's like you're 21.

  • You made it.

  • You made it like out of a ghetto out of bad habits, you climb to the top of the charts.

  • You you had it.

  • You had it in the air.

  • You just couldn't land it like.

  • And you you o D what?

  • Like it's just so senseless.

  • And I I have, like, a big problem with drug addicts.

  • I d'oh, I know this.

  • I have very little sympathy because it may cause it's so fucking wasteful.

  • It's such a waste.

  • Like when Amy Winehouse died, I was like, Oh, and I was like you know what?

  • Fuck this whole.

  • I'm not mourning because I was so angry.

  • I was so angry.

  • Like she wrote songs about how she didn't want to go to recap.

  • She thought her addiction was cute.

  • No, no, no.

  • Like her record label sent her to like Antigua for four months to dry out.

  • She was crawling on the ground, taking like a little monkey, taking drinks from strangers, tables and drinking.

  • I'm like you didn't want to get better And it's It's frustrating because I see so many people in the world who are struggling with addiction.

  • Who would give anything for those Resource is anything to break free of Oxy free of meth, free of whatever.

  • And then you have celebrities who mythologize it and that I'm like, Oh, so it's I get Really, I get really frustrated for the message that 78 you know, and Mac Miller, I think was so upsetting because he was such a positive person and it was weird how many celebrities came out of the woodwork and we're like he changed my life like obviously Arianna.

  • But wasn't it like like Tana Monjo was like he was one of my best friends.

  • And Tana?

  • I think so.

  • I think so.

  • And he just seemed like he had overcome his demons.

  • And like one of the last things he had said his friends like I'm back.

  • I'm so where I'm feeling good.

  • I'm ready and people like, Yeah, And then, you know, it's that fall.

  • It's that fault immediately, and it's just like it's so painful because again we think of our own mortality.

  • You know?

  • What if this is my last day on Earth?

  • No, I'm not an oxy addict.

  • I don't inject heroin injector, but I could get in a car crash like Paul Walker.

  • Now he was driving like an asshole, which is again frustrating.

  • It's like this was not the hand of God.

  • That's what it comes up.

  • This was not the hand of God.

  • This was the hand of you.

  • You know, Kobe and Jonah, that was the hand of God.

  • And we're mad at God.

  • You know, when we think maybe there's a higher purpose.

  • But when other people die, it's like, What the fuck did you do that for?

  • What did you do?

  • Don't floor because it shakes up our belief in everything happens for a reason, right?

  • It really goes to the heart of that.

  • So their childhood nostalgia there's our own mortality.

  • And there's the people who are both.

  • And those are the deaths that really shake us, Kobe and G because it's not just Kobe who we grew up with.

  • Kobe.

  • Every time we throw a Kleenex in the waste basket, it's his daughter.

  • So we're like, Wait, wait a minute.

  • Why did she have to die like it's just so census and horrible.

  • And another big one you guys said was Cameron voice from the descendants like you guys like I grew up with him, But then you realize like he probably wasn't that much older than you.

  • And you're like, Wait a minute.

  • He died of a seizure like epilepsy Shouldn't.

  • Shouldn't we have a grip on this by now is a society.

  • Was he dying of consumption?

  • It's got black lung like what?

  • And you're just like and this this is what celebrity deaths also kick up.

  • No one is safe.

  • No one is safe from death.

  • And we think that celebrities are insulated from every bad thing in the world.

  • How could a celebrity be heartbroken?

  • How about a celebrity.

  • Be having a bad day.

  • What did they have to be unhappy about?

  • How could a celebrity ever die?

  • How could they die from something as mundane as a seizure which a lot of people have?

  • How is that possible?

  • How could they not get fixed?

  • And we think that about celebrities, too.

  • How did they had not have a network of people around them fixing all of their problems?

  • They have someone fixing their photos.

  • They have someone fixing their, you know, paychecks and everything.

  • Someone fixing their laundry and they don't have someone fixing their health.

  • So if they can be taken, we can be taken a parents committee.

  • There is nothing to insulate us from death.

  • And is that not the most horrifying existential question that we can think?

  • Is that not the reason religion was invented to answer that question?

  • Maybe we can't keep you from dying, but we can promise you that something good is on the other side and we can promise you defer your enemies something back, right.

  • And this is not We think we're going to have to think about what we turn on the news and we read that a celebrity has died.

  • We don't want to think about these things.

  • We pushed them down.

  • We pushed them down.

  • You know, we live every day like there is another and another and another behind it until we're 95 years old.

  • And that's not always the case.

  • And then we have to stop and be like, Holy shit!

  • What if What if today was my last day?

  • What if today was my last day?

  • And in the seconds between this world and the next, everything that I did wrong flashes and I don't mean like, I didn't get my degree?

  • What?

  • I mean, all the bullshit that I held on to the time that I wasted on people who didn't deserve it the time time that I am out of now that I no longer get to get back, that there is not another day to fix it and do better and move on.

  • What if this this is just my story?

  • Now, this is my story.

  • When my grandmother died in June, I had that overwhelming feeling that, like, that was her story, you know, and she was wonderful, but she was not perfect.

  • And there was a lot of like tension in our family.

  • A lot of it came from her, and it was just, like, fucked that up to G.

  • Like, what did that add up to all those fights and the Pettiness?

  • And the tension is like for what?

  • That's your story.

  • That's your story.

  • That's how you lived.

  • You got to live portions of your life and for what you know, and it really kicks that up a lot.

  • But that is the silver lining, I guess of death is we are supposed to be thinking about these things.

  • We are.

  • And in that sense, people who are religious are braver than the rest of us.

  • You know, they go to church every Sunday and they think about death, and they think about what happens and how they're living and who is going to judge them.

  • Maybe later today if they get hit by a bus.

  • You know, this isn't like a religious patch, you know, religion can easily get out of control.

  • You know, if bad people use it for bad, nefarious purposes or we got to kill the infidels, we got to kill the non believers.

  • You know, we got a shit on women who are going to the abortion clinic.

  • You're not a Christian.

  • You're not a Muslim.

  • You not at you.

  • You're just a bad person and just feel like I have a bad person.

  • I am a psychopath.

  • And I wanted rain may have a destruction down on the world.

  • All right, You know what?

  • Be a supervillain.

  • I will defeat you.

  • But you couldn't try.

  • Just don't dress it up in something that good people use for good.

  • Just let let us good people have our church.

  • Okay?

  • On our hymnal said are fried chicken afterwards.

  • So the silver lining is we need to stop and think about these things.

  • What if today was the end?

  • What if we got a diagnosis tomorrow?

  • What would we wish we were doing differently and just shift, even shifting one of those things?

  • You know what?

  • I'm not gonna sweat the small stuff.

  • Someone cuts me off in traffic.

  • Life goes on, right?

  • Hopefully you know what if maybe someone bungled my birthday cake and it's chocolate and vanilla and one of vanilla vanilla.

  • I'm lucky I had people who thought of me.

  • And you know what?

  • If this guy doesn't like me.

  • Am I really going to spend this precious time chasing him?

  • Do I truly want to look back on the audit of my life when it's at the end and be like, Ah, I stayed in a relationship out of fear or comfort or desperation or whatever I stagnated.

  • I didn't try that new thing.

  • I didn't tell that person.

  • I love them.

  • It's It's it's a lot.

  • It's a lot.

  • So we have to cultivate that sense of awareness.

  • We have to cultivate empathy for other people.

  • I am at times low on that, but at other times inordinately high Maur empathetic, then I should maybe Maybe that's what have you guys said.

  • You know, I'm like, too empathetic.

  • And then when I hit my limit, I become like a monster and I was like, That sounds that sounds right.

  • You know, we all kind of hit our empathy saturation point, and then someone comes off with a problem.

  • It's like, What do you want?

  • What do you want?

  • You know, And that's why boundaries, a really important.

  • It's like, No, I don't need a set of the phone with my friend crying about her boyfriend for the 10th time this week.

  • Maybe I can reserve my empathy for gathering that food.

  • I was gonna take that homeless man down the street.

  • You know, it's energy is like time.

  • It isn't always renewable and same with empathy.

  • So we have to budget it.

  • Well, right, So we have to be empathetic with ourselves.

  • You have to be empathetic with others.

  • We have to dial down our celebrity obsession and think like they're perfect and fuck them.

  • What do they have to be upset about?

  • So I'm gonna shit all over them.

  • In the comments section, I realize that I have a channel talking about celebrity.

  • I get that and this is a gut check for me, too.

  • It is.

  • It is for sure.

  • You know, I need to be more empathetic towards people, but I have a problem when people are sending bad messages over problem with people calling other people out of kidneys.

  • Have a problem with that.

  • But I'll try.

  • I'll try.

  • So last but not least, if you feel anger, a death that's normal.

  • Sit though.

  • And think about what this kicks up.

  • Is it your own mortality is the mortality of someone you might love is it that Oh my God.

  • My standard of happiness and protection from bad things.

  • A k celebrity.

  • That's why I want to be an influence.

  • Why I want to be famous.

  • That's why I want to be a model.

  • Maybe it actually won't protect me from anything.

  • Maybe my problems that I feel now We're not only still be there if I become famous or get the corner office or get the boyfriend or whatever it is, maybe they'll be worse because I'm goingto layer on circumstances that I don't feel empowered to control.

  • And that is how celebrity is much of the time.

  • Much of the time there's a lot to unpack.

  • So sit with it.

  • Let it simmer, let it burn.

  • I know.

  • Okay.

  • It's a moment of Zen German Include potpie and more videos.

  • Would you like me to end with pulpy time?

  • I love you.

  • Okay.

  • Well, that's nice.

  • I didn't mean that to get here for more click like and subscribe.

  • Follow me on Instagram If you think you can stand to see me this much I promise my feet is not about death or the golden girls or stuffed octopus is, um, not all the time anyway.

  • And tell me in the comment section what other deaths really shook you up?

  • And now, after watching this video, what do you think it means to you?

  • Does it ping up something deeper inside you that maybe needs addressing?

  • I'll talk to you later, Guys live.

  • Laugh, love, love one another just for today.

  • Give it a shot.

Welcome back, challengers will today we're talking about something a little bit different than usual.
