  • Everyone's talking about it.

  • And with the yellow metal increasing by 25% in value over the past 12 months, it's easy to see why producers that have low margins at $1300 an ounce last March are now higher margin minds on those mines that were high margins at $1300 an ounce and now making a vast amount of money.

  • And investors want exposures to these high returns.

  • If we look at a chart for gold over the past 12 months, we can clearly see that since April last year, gold has been in an uptrend, rising 30% from 1266 U.

  • S.

  • Dollars per ounce in mid April to its current level of over $1600 an ounce.

  • And it's this rapid rice that has the market all excited.

  • However, if we take a step back in time, we can see that the uptrend for gold appears to have started much earlier.

  • Let's take a look at what the gold price would have bean doing over the past 24 months.

  • Looking at this job, we can see that the gold price has been in our trade since at least August 2080 when it was priced at $1170 announced.

  • During this period, the gold price has risen by around 40%.

  • But what if we go back in time?

  • Further still, let's go back 50 years Now we're able to see what some investors are getting very excited about the gold price.

  • Looking at the 50 year price data we can see to clear bull markets for gold.

  • The first round from 1972 1980 and the gold price rose 1700% from 35 U.

  • Dollars per ounce to $630 per ounce the second round from 2000 to 2012.

  • And during this period, the gold price rose 570% from 265 U.

  • Dollars.

  • In fact, looking at the larger data set, it appears that gold has been in an uptrend since very late in 2015 and it's currently up around 54% since that time are we midway through a 10 year bull market for gold as experienced between 1970 in 1980 or 2002 in 2012?

  • Or are we seeing a more short lived rise in the yellow metal, similar to what was experienced between 1985 and 1988 when gold rose 59% before falling?

  • It's a question we're all seeking the answer to.
