  • GEMA PARRENO: Hi, I'm Gema and I use

  • machine learning to predict whether asteroids

  • will hit Earth.

  • I track bank fraud by day and asteroids by night.

  • Our planet is surrounded by thousands of asteroids

  • and comets called Near Earth Objects, like this one.

  • A couple of years ago, NASA issued a challenge

  • to help them classify all the Near Earth Objects in space

  • so we can avoid the same fate as the dinosaurs.

  • - Oh, no.

  • GEMA PARRENO: I used TensorFlow--

  • an open source framework developed by Google--

  • to design a program called Deep Asteroid.

  • With TensorFlow, Deep Asteroid can

  • process huge amounts of data.

  • Deep Asteroid works as a multi-layer process.

  • The more layers that you have, the more refined

  • result that you get.

  • It adds knowledge and better informs scientists.

  • The good news-- an asteroid is very unlikely to hit Earth,

  • so we're safe for now.

  • BILL GUFFEY: Through Street View,

  • I could explore the world.

  • And it's just like you're walking up and down the street.

  • I thought that other artists might enjoy it also,

  • so I created the virtual paintout.
