  • Carlos, and I'm happy to welcome you to sing and then 10. 2

  • Our first story of the week centers on what could be called ah, high stakes and dangerous Game of chicken played out by warships in the Arabian Sea. 3

  • It involves the United States and Russia, but if you ask who's responsible, you'll get two very different answers. 4

  • Last week, the U. 5

  • S Navy said one of its destroyers was aggressively approached by a Russian ship. 6

  • American defense officials say this video shows the Russian vessel coming is closest 180 feet from the American one. 7

  • Before changing course, the U. 8

  • S Navy says it sounded the International Maritime signal for collision danger and ask the Russian ship to change its course, but that because it delayed following the rules, the Russian ship increased the chances of a collision before eventually turning away. 9

  • Russia disagrees with that summary. 10

  • It says the American warship broke international rules by making a move that crossed the Russian ships course and that it was the Russian ship that prevented the collision by maneuvering away. 11

  • Something like this between the same two countries also happened last June. 12

  • That incident was in the Pacific ocean. 13

  • The two warships involved came so close that the U. 14

  • S. 15

  • Had to make an emergency move to avoid a collision. 16

  • But then, as now, Russian media said it was their country ship that suddenly changed direction to avoid hitting the American one. 17

  • There've been a number of military incidents that American officials have called unsafe or provocative. 18

  • A reporter from National Public Radio described them as cat and mouse games between the US and Russia that were common during the Cold War. 19

  • The latest near miss in the Arabian Sea came in a body of water where there's a lot of maritime traffic and where a large amount of the world's crude oil passes through Theo. 20

  • United States military is the world's dominant fighting force. 21

  • Its annual spending is the highest in the world, $649 billion in 2018. 22

  • That is the equivalent of the next eight countries combined and two and 1/2 times that of China, the next closest country. 23

  • The U. 24

  • S and Russia have the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons. 25

  • They amount to about 93% of all the nuclear warheads in the world. 26

  • And despite limiting and reducing those warheads following the Cold War. 27

  • Today, each country has some 4000 nuclear warheads in terms of military weaponry. 28

  • The U. 29

  • S has more than 13,000 aircraft, more than 6000 tanks and almost 40,000 armored fighting vehicles. 30

  • The United States has dozens of submarines that can stay submerged for extended periods of time and fire ballistic or cruise missiles at targets on land and sea across the globe. 31

  • US. 32

  • Has 11 active aircraft carriers and nine amphibious assault ships, which are essentially smaller aircraft carriers with approximately 1.3 million active duty troops in the armed forces and another 803,000 in reserve. 33

  • The U. 34

  • S has military personnel on all seven continents in Maur than 160 countries across 4800 defence sites all over the world. 35

  • The United States Army is on the alert in terms of size. 36

  • The U. 37

  • S is actually not the largest. 38

  • Both China and India have larger numbers of active military personnel. 39

  • While North Korea is much smaller than the U. 40

  • S and geographic size, it comes in just behind the U. 41

  • S. 42

  • Russia in fifth place, with about 800,000 active military personnel. 43

  • What distinguishes the U. 44

  • S. 45

  • Is it has forces deployed farther and wider across the globe than any other country in the world. 46

  • Lian, It's Percy, It's and quadrant IDs are all the names of what constellations combined a tor ex animal orders or meteor showers. 47

  • These are all meteor showers that occur in different parts of the year. 48

  • The quad rented meteor shower is typically visible in late January, though the 1st 1 of 2020 hit its peak on January 4th for observers on Earth, who happened to catch it at the right time. 49

  • It looked like this. 50

  • A series of shooting stars, but for an observer in space, it looked more like this. 51

  • There's a lot going on in this picture. 52

  • It's a composite shot that was made from multiple images taken at the International Space Station. 53

  • The green arc you see near the top are the northern lights below. 54

  • Into the right of your screen center are likely those of large cities, and if you look closely to the left of center, you'll see what looked like short, light colored streaks. 55

  • Those air the Meteors not to be confused with meteoroids or meteorites questions here all the time about comets, asteroids and Meteors. 56

  • Meteorites. 57

  • What's the difference? 58

  • Well, let's start in space. 59

  • Work our way. 60

  • All the way down to the surface of a comet is a snowball. 61

  • It's a piece of ice now. 62

  • The ice is mainly frozen gas, not water. 63

  • But there could be dust and rocks and things inside the comet Haley's comet. 64

  • Now NASA knows of about 3600 other comets than that one out there, closer in in the asteroid belt. 65

  • These a rocks, not gas. 66

  • They could be metal as well, but they are hard surfaces, and sometimes they come out of the asteroid belt, get closer to the surface of the earth or our atmosphere. 67

  • If one or a piece of a smaller one called the Meteoroid hits the surface of the atmosphere, it turns into a meteor. 68

  • It gets bright because it hits our atmosphere and begins to burn up. 69

  • It doesn't make its way all the way down to the surface turns into a shooting star. 70

  • Now, if it does make its way all the way down to the surface of the Earth and hits the ground, and you could pick it up. 71

  • That is a meteorite. 72

  • The term artificial human might sound like an insult like that dude at the track meet Who wouldn't talk to you? 73

  • But it means something very different At C. 74

  • E s, the world's largest technology show, this year's event just wrapped up last week in Nevada, fifth generation wireless technology folding smartphones, self driving cars were all part of it. 75

  • So was artificial intelligence. 76

  • And while the virtual humans on display still have a long way to go before they're ready for prime time, it's easy to see why they're getting a lot of attention. 77

  • Hi, we have smiles. 78

  • Or perhaps surprised. 79

  • So what is a neon? 80

  • It's a new kind of virtual being that looks 100% really behaves like a human, but we just computers originated isn't the only area system. 81

  • No, Leone is more like your dear nightie that you talkto your friend that you memory with. 82

  • And what are the use cases for something like your sketches? 83

  • It can be your next financial advisor on me own can be a hotel receptionist. 84

  • He or she can be simply a friend. 85

  • And what does that mean for jobs, then? 86

  • No one is not created to replace the human jobs he also created to help. 87

  • Where humans cannot reach language barriers can be our doctor. 88

  • Very more present African outreach. 89

  • So I'll ask her to say a few phrases in different languages. 90

  • Maybe something like this. 91

  • I'm sorry. 92

  • Yes, Right now the owner doesn't have any intelligence are saying they are behaving intelligent but they do not have a concept of the learning or memory inspector. 93

  • I will bring the months of learning dangerous. 94

  • There's always goods and birds off any technology and how we use that way. 95

  • Do it today or someone has to it tomorrow. 96

  • If we do it today, they want to ensure that from the ground up from the architecture label from the design level that is not misused for 10 out of 10 today, it seems to pandas was one too many at this nature reserve in China. 97

  • So joshing and Lulu decided to settle their differences in an epic panda battle. 98

  • Okay, fake news. 99

  • These are pandas at a Chinese nature preserve, but they're just playing and wrestling and generally having an awesome time in the first snowfall to hit their area. 100

  • Seems people aren't the only beings to want to play in the snow. 101

  • When two bears test their panda might know. 102

  • Critic would there pan to fight? 103

  • They hit like Rocky strike like Rambo battles raging over bamboo in the trees or in the snow. 104

  • They wrestle in a pandering show. 105

  • So who is wrong and who is right with panda bears? 106

  • It's black and white. 107

  • Thank you for watching. 108

  • Today's shout out is for Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School. 109
