  • My name is Richard McMann from the interview Training Company, past my interview dot com And in this tutorial, I'm going to teach you how to pass the Border Force Officer interview.

  • Now it does not matter which country you are currently in on their four applying to become a border force officer.

  • This tutorial.

  • I'm gonna help you to achieve that by providing you with a number off interview questions on DME or importantly, some high scoring answers.

  • Now, before I get into those Border Force officer interview questions and answers, a very warm welcome to this interview training tutorial.

  • Now, in preparation for your Border Force Officer interview, we need to make sure that you demonstrate a number off skills and qualities in order to pass.

  • Now, what do those include?

  • Well, first of all, you have to demonstrate an ability to remain calm under pressure at all times.

  • You know, you do not see border officers and sorry Border Force officers losing control or become an aggressive or confrontational.

  • They simply can't do that.

  • Yes, they have to be confident and resilient, but they never lose their com.

  • You also have to demonstrated ability to be vigilant in everything that you do.

  • You have to be confident and resilient, as I've just explained in your approach to all tasks on all of your duties, you should also be able to follow rules, procedures, laws on also your training protocol.

  • You have to follow that all the time.

  • You have to have an inquisitive nature when dealing with passengers and travelers making their way across the border.

  • You obviously have to provide excellent customer service is well, because the majority of people who come through the border on, you know are gonna be lore about in citizens, and therefore you have to provide excellent customer service.

  • You have to be a strong team player.

  • I am working with other people, is part of the border force team on a customs team on to work collaboratively to achieve in the priorities of the Border Force Organization.

  • And also you have to make effective and measure decisions and carry out all of your duties in the best interest of the country you are serving.

  • So those are the things that I'm gonna focus on when I come onto the interview questions and answers that are coming right now so you can take notes if you want to, as I progress through this presentation.

  • Tell me about yourself and the skills and qualities you have.

  • There are a match for a border force officer, So bearing in mind what I've just discussed in relation to the skills and attributes, let's take a look at a sample.

  • I am someone who takes great pride in their work and the professional standards that I always make sure I work, too.

  • I'm hardworking, Iaw, strong values, and I am confident and resilient in difficult and challenging situations.

  • Now, outside of work, I like to keep myself fit and active, and I like to lead a relatively healthy lifestyle.

  • As a border force officer, I understand you need to be vigilant, resilient, to remain calm in difficult situations and also be capable of following strict rules and procedures.

  • I believe the skills, the attributes, any experience I've gained in life so far would enable me to be a competent border force officer.

  • If I'm given the opportunity to undertake this role, which has been an ambition of mine for some time now, I will be a great team worker.

  • I will learn the role quickly, always before my duties to the highest standards possible.

  • So that's that.

  • That's a strong, positive answer, in my opinion.

  • And you're also making the interview panel aware that you understand the key attributes of the role.

  • So that shows that you read the job description.

  • Let's move on to another question.

  • What is the role of a Border Force officer and in particular, what the priorities of the border force team within this country?

  • So there's basically two questions within that one question.

  • What is the role of the Border Force officer?

  • And secondly, what are the priorities?

  • So I'm gonna give you an in depth answer to this question in a second.

  • But the only way that you would be able to answer this is tow.

  • Actually read the job description for the role.

  • The majority of people who go for Border Force officer interviews won't have read the job description or the job advert in detail.

  • And they're going to ask you what, What do you expect to be doing on a daily basis?

  • Because then that demonstrates that you've looked into it and you're aware that you have the skills and qualities needed.

  • So let's take a look at an answer to his question.

  • The primary role of a border police officer is to ensure the safety and the integrity of the border.

  • In addition to this priority, they also work as part of a team to promote the economy by ensuring legitimate passage of individuals and trade across the border.

  • Now in relation to the priorities of the border force team.

  • These include acting is a visible presence to prevent and deter the movement of individuals and goods that would otherwise affect the national interests.

  • Yes, I have studied the job description in detail to make sure I have the skills, the qualities and the experience to perform the role to the standards needed.

  • Now, the seven most important attributes are an ability to remain car whilst on the pressure and use a considered approach to all tasks and ability to work collaboratively with lovers.

  • In order to achieve the goals of the Border Force team, be able to use an inquisitive approach.

  • Wells carrying out your border force officer duties on ability to follow all rules and procedures with safety in the forefront of your mind.

  • Bail to you skillful communication techniques to achieve the objectives of your tasks and finally be flexible and adaptable within the road.

  • Now this is basically a strength based interview question or a behavioral type.

  • So it's saying, is a Border Force officer you will need to be vigilant.

  • Give me an example of when you demonstrated vigilance.

  • It's a tough it's a tough question, but I'm gonna give you an answer here, and you'll notice in my answer that I am providing a specific situation.

  • I cannot emphasize enough how important that is With this type of question, you don't say Well, as a border force officer, I would be vigilant by looking out for anything that raised my concerns.

  • That's no good.

  • You won't pass without response.

  • What you have to do is to give a specific example you're in.

  • Here's an example.

  • I could remember being out shopping one Saturday afternoon with my family in a busy shopping mall.

  • I'm naturally an inquisitive person, and especially with the increased risk of incidents nowadays, I try to keep my eyes and ears open for potential threats and dangers.

  • I noticed that someone had left a large cardboard box next to one of the rubbish bins.

  • Another shoppers were walking past, looking at it with the same level of concern that I had.

  • I decided to locate the mall security office to make them aware of the box, and they could then send someone over to check it in line with their procedures.

  • Once I've found the office, they immediately send someone over to check out the box now.

  • I ended up that one of the new cleaner's who not been working there for long, had foolishly left the cardboard box next to the bin by mistake.

  • Now, thankfully, it ended up not being anything dangerous or threatening.

  • But I was glad I had noticed it or, more importantly, took appropriate action to get it checked out.

  • So that is a that's a strong answer and demonstrates when in a specific situation or incident you've been vigilant.

  • Okay, so you've been vigilant, and that's what they're looking for is for you to give a specific answer.

  • Make sure that you do provide a specific one.

  • We are interviewing many people for the position of Border Force Officer.

  • What makes you the standout candidate?

  • So if you can imagine, it's a highly attractive roll.

  • Lots of people want to be border force officers.

  • You know there's not many positions being advertised.

  • So what makes you the best person?

  • This is your chance to sell yourself.

  • Here we go.

  • I believe I'm the best candidate for the position of Border Force Officer for four main reasons.

  • Firstly, I feel the skills, the qualities and the experience I have gained in my personal and professional life To date, they're a strong match for the requirements of the road.

  • Secondly, I am a naturally calm, composed on vigil, a person who has an inquisitive mind.

  • This means I'll be able to carry out my duties effectively and consistently whilst working in line with the priorities and objectives of the border Force.

  • Thirdly, I am a solid team worker who always puts the team's goals above my own.

  • And finally, I'm a fast learner who will work hard to study the role, absorb the instructions I receive and also past the relevant courses and exams too quickly become a qualified and competent border force officer.

  • What I like about the answer is you're given four specific reasons.

  • So it shows that you you thought about this.

  • I believe on the best candidate for four main reasons, and that's not really a good prompt for you when you sat there in your interview, right?

  • I need to focus on these four key particular areas and you'll notice that there in line with the job description.
