I'm the counselor for streets and open Spaces.

It's really a pleasure to welcome you all to the return of the Cambridge Half Marathon for the eighth time in this current former.

This is one of the most important events in our city.

Sporting calendar on the strong partnership between Cambridge City Council on OS Be events has beena vital factor in its growth and success.

As a runner myself, I know what a great way it is to stay fit and get motivated.

And, of course, it's always also an excellent way to raise money for a host of good causes.

Begin small, local and national As you run through the streets of Cambridge.

Today, you'll be on the roads passed on open spaces that are maintained for everyone's enjoyment by my team.

In streets in open spaces, they work hard all year round to keep Cambridge clean and beautiful, and in the run up to today, they have been cutting back overgrown edges and keeping your route clear with the support from a fabulous group of volunteers.

I'd like to thank them all for the work they do today and all year round.

You'll also be running through areas where the City Council is working hard to encourage a wider range of plants and animals.

The effects of climate change or impossible to ignore on enhancing biodiversity is one way we can try to reduce its never negative impact.

So when were you one of those runners who keeps your eyes on the far horizon?

Or someone who looks down on their feet for every step like me?

Take a look out for the hedgehogs, the water bowls, month, jack deer and other interesting animals and birds on the way and let us know what you see.
