Now I hope you all had a very nice Christmas and, of course, a Happy New Year as well.

A few videos ago, you may remember we took a look at an old alien way desktop PC.

I found online respects were unknown until I got it home, though, when we actually discovered what lay inside, the outcome was rather disappointing.

The specs were way too old to even start modern games, and the video card had some sort of display malfunction.

I was ready to give up on it, but after realizing the case supported standard form factor motherboards, I decided to turn it into a little bit of an upgrade project.

Well, I hadn't planned to do anything too fancy.

I decided to go for a rise and based system that would be both capable and upgradeable Should I will say the next owner want to make any future upgrades.

But this idea wasn't without its floors.

So here's what's changed.

The first thing that needed addressing after removing all the old parts was the state of the computer itself.

Those of you that follow me on Twitter probably saw the picture I posted of one of the cooling fans.

You can imagine how filthy the rest of it waas.

Luckily, the plastic shroud comes away from the case so we could remove most of the built up dust.

This process was carried out using a screwdriver, some masking tape, a micro fiber cloth on a cocktail stick of all things as well as some compressed air.

It truly is amazing what you confined inside, Old P sees.

This thing's already paying for itself.

I wasn't even able to refer the old fans, and it was important to me that we kept some of the original components in here for nostalgia's sake.

That's why the card reader is still in here, too, even though isn't connected to anything.

It's just a cool reminder of this machine's origin.

The original undamaged stickers are also a nice touch, but let's move on to the internals.

I also found this one at a pretty decent used price, even if I did have to use my old rise and 5 1600 cooler to go with this pairing, we have eight gigs of 3000 megahertz DDR four.

This team Vulcan memory was very reasonably priced at just over £55 new, which is incredible, really, considering how much RAM costs not too long ago.

Jewel Channel for Horizon is ideal, and the higher the speed, the better.

For those wondering no, all of today's components were bought brand new, but the ram here waas because it wasn't any cheaper to buy on the used market.

And in fact, you won't find many of these parts for that much cheaper when searching around for second hand components.

The graphics card you've certainly seen before and this choice came from my uncertainty of what to use.

Although I did start to see a sort of black, white and gray theme emerging.

So I wanted to try and stick to it.

I didn't want a GPU that was too big.

As despite the exterior, the case isn't that spacious inside.

But I wanted something that would pair well with the rise in as the proud owner of a rise in 1600 G text 10 70 therefore knowing how well they work together, I decided to opt for And now that 10.

70 in this bill to the same many M s I version, that is, which is not only small, but very quiet.

This overall combination makes for a very capable 10.

80 p or even 14.

40 p system that still leaves room for future changes.

For the storage, I chose a Western Digital 480 gigabyte SSD, which will be home to Windows and a few editing programs like Premiere Pro and Photo Shop.

The quicker those sort of wraps work, the better.

Ah, hard drive would be ideal to make up the rest of the capacity on while I did buy a new one.

My personal one will be installed for today, as it has all of my games on it.

Powering this now modernized machine is a fully modular 850.

What ps you?

I bought this some time ago, but it has never found a permanent home on the power output means you should be able to upgrade to any single GPU on the market and not have to worry about replacing it.

Modular also means less cables to deal with.

It's quite uncharacteristic for me to spend this much on a build, I know.

But I think an old beast that once screamed power should still be able to stake that claim, especially when it still looks the part.

There may be a few things here some of you would have done differently, I'm sure, but I think this not only represents a fitting revival, but a decent configuration for an up to date yet still upgradeable gaming PC.

Not to mention that the used market can sometimes be your best friend when looking for high end parts at lower prices.

This project wasn't without its problems, but we'll get onto that after we've checked out the gaming performance, right?

So when it comes to the games, as you would expect, this machine is more than capable of handling pretty much every title at 10.

80 p, with at least 60 frames per second, starting off with Assassin's Creed or to see here.

And as you can see, the game looks very nice with the high visual preset, and we are getting pretty decent frame rates as well.

One thing I will mention is due to optimization and regular updates that don't always help performance.

You may see it some stuttering here and there.

I think it totally depends on what update has just come out for the game, because I swear some of this slow down you're seeing here wasn't there the last time I benched Mark this on a similar system.

Battlefield five Overy.

New and Quite Fun Game ran with 98 frames per second, again, with the height visual preset at 10 80 p.

Interestingly, ultra settings meant that we stuck closer to 60 frames per second with some dips below.

So if you are experiencing like on a similar PC or want to build something similar to this one, then just know that high settings will run a lot better.

Then it will turning everything upto ultra moving on too far Cry five and once again, hi preset 10 80 p.

We were able to run with 77 frames per second, with 1% lows of 61 43 respectively, again meaning that we didn't see that much like or stutter, if any.

There were a few moments that you may pick up on the screen here, whereby we run into a crowded area packed full of enemies.

And if there was an explosion, something like that, then you may see a couple of frames drop, but apart from that, it was all pretty good.

And I experienced no severe problems when playing this game on this set up, which also remained very, very quiet as well.

This particular 10 70 as with most new cards and other 10 seventies, has this feature where the fan won't spin until it hits at least 60 degrees.

I believe so, until you get to that sort of temperature.

The fan won't spin up in a lot off titles, although having said that, it doesn't take long.

In a few Triple eight games, before you do reach that target Celsius fortnight with the epic settings preset here ran it well over 122 frames per second.

Now toe workout.

This average combined a bit of the gameplay results when I was just wondering around outside of the towns in these sort of open currently snowfield areas and then took that mixed it with the results from sort of a bit of combat inside a town to give us this average here for the reason I did this is because the frame rate will vary significantly depending on where you are in the map.

Sometimes it will drop below 80.

For example, on a system like this, and other times, it will shoot beyond 120 in those sort of more open and empty areas.

Just know that epic settings on a PC configuration like this one, they will be no really.

Instances when you dropped below 60 frames per second as we move on to just cause four again with the High Priest is a similar story.

The game was very playable indeed, there were no real performance issues here until I didn't notice any of the static that was perhaps picked up in the frappes benchmark told so that you may see a few hiccups Bean graph form.

You won't really be able to pick them up when you're actually looking at the game.

Put it that way.

As I said before, A system like this should be ableto handle most current games with at least 60 frames per second using the higher settings pub G 101 F.

The 1% and 10.1% lows once again of 63 43 indicate that it was a pretty smooth experience when we took to the mope ed, which you'll see in a little bit.

This is where we saw the most issues with frame rate, and I often find that once I jump into a vehicle on this game, the frame rate does suffer a little bit.

We do start to notice frame pacing issues.

There are a few hiccups here and there, and it can be rather off putting.

But throughout every single update for pub.

Gee, I've noticed a very similar thing.

It's okay when you're on foot, but assume to say you sit on a mope ed getting a car, anything like that, you will see a little bit of stutter that can be a little bit distracting.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

Another new release Yet when I don't feel looks as good as Rise of the Tomb Raider ran with the high settings and S M A two average 77 frames per second with 1% loans off 67 52 respectively.

It's pretty certain that you'll see no stat up with a system like this one.

Finally, we have Rainbow six siege ultra settings averaging at least 130 frames per second.

Well, 131 with 1% lows of 92 86 respectively, which again just goes to show off this P seize power, and it's a vast improvement over what the system came with when I found it on eBay for just £40.

I think we've made a pretty nice improvement to this build, but now I want to talk about some of the problems I encountered and ones that you may encounter, too.

Should you want to build a system with modern components inside an older looking and cool case?

Because it isn't a straightforward as it may seem, So the first issue with this case was the front USB ports.

Now, instead of plugging them directly into a motherboard head, as you'd expect with most cases instead, you have the Rua cable USB cable from the front ports to the back of the system and plug that cable into the back USB ports in order to power the front USB ports.

I'm sorry, that sound like an absolute mess to explain, but it's the only way I can think to explain.

It really is something I've never seen before and something quite inconvenient considering your lose access to most of your rear USB connectors.

After doing this, there's also the fact that there's no front inputs for headphones or microphones again, it's not the end of the world, but it is a little bit of an inconvenience, and you certainly don't get all the modern features that you would with a brand new case.

And considering this cost more than I could find some brand new cases for you really are sort of replacing the usability factor for the aesthetic factor.

Simply put, you'd have to put up with a couple of inconveniences just for it to look.

Cole underneath the core looking plastic exterior is essentially just an old case with limited space in some instances on dhe limited functionality.

So you just have to bear that in mind.

Other than that, it was a pretty successful project, and I think we've turned something that once looked beastie and probably was beastie by those standards back then into something that, once again can be considered pretty capable.

When I'm quite happy with how it turned out, I would have liked to, perhaps at a liquid calling feature in here, but there was no room really to do so.

The fans of the back are a little awkward.

That space, um, and there's nowhere else I could have really fit a radiator, either.
