Now, this is an ice 7 39 30 k based six Court 12 threaded gaming PC and I have a confession to make.

I didn't build this.

I bought it.

It was up for sale at C E.

X at a price of £280.

Roughly 350 U.

S.

Dollars or 320 euros.

I'm yet to understand C E X is pricing strategy.

I really am.

But it seems like hard drive size and operating system play a part in how much they sell their second hand systems.

For After all, this came with the bun to and to 120 gig SS days.

Regardless, knowing that the 39 30 k is a 2011 socket CPU, I had a feeling it would be sitting atop an expensive motherboard.

Not to mention this machine also included a GTX 9 80 According to the description.

At less than £300 it's a still, but it makes me feel a little sorry for whoever sold it to C.

X, because they would have likely received a lot less for this PC, which would still fetch a very pretty penny if it was listed on somewhere like eBay.

So let's open it up and get a more thorough idea of what the Giants and take P 183 case is hiding.

Actually, that start there.

This enclosure came out around 10 years ago, and it would have been aimed more towards enthusiasts.

It's very sturdy, and the finish looks great.

Despite the odd scratch here, and they're removing.

The side panel reveals a neatly structured internal design and a spider, which definitely must go.

The cable management here leaves a lot to be desired, but I soon forgot about this.

Mine issue went on closer inspection.

I saw what seems to be a saber tooth x 79.

ASU's bold This thing just gets better by the second.

There's also an antic liquid cooler, which will certainly help with overcooking on the advertised 12 gigs of DDR three memory.

Part of me did wonder if we were going to see one of those super cheap Chinese X 79 boards in here, and maybe a few more cut corners that reflected the low price after room.

See e X, give you the basic details, but they never go too far in depth, So the power supply on the motherboard remained a mystery.

It seems, though, that no expense was spared back in the day when this was put together.

The 1000 and 50 What power supply is also nice, but I must say it seems like overkill.

For such a set up, you could probably get away with a decent 550.

What unit in here that's usually the general consensus.

If in doubt, go 5 50 Seriously, always do your research.

When buying a Pierce, you getting a good look at the 9 80 reveals it's the super cooked a C X version.

It's a shame it's not a t I, but that really would have been hoping for too much.

I think we tested the 9 80 back in April and found that it's still a very capable GPU.

Even in 2019 I think it comes close to a 10 60.

Finally, the storage solution consists of two OSI, said SS D's, which were stated as being 120 gigabytes each.

I'll confirm this later on.

First, though, I had to do a bit of tidying up.

Everything looks clean enough, but these cables just won't do a little bit of this and job done.

I also removed the fan the back of the cases.

It wasn't really making any difference to the calling of the ice seven.

Plus, it looked ridiculous with no more messing about.

It was time to turn the PC on.

If I could just find the power button, uh, outsmarted by an inanimate object Yet again, I jumped straight into the biosphere to trick the temperatures and what not?

And it seemed everything was in order.

It was telling me I only had eight gigs of memory, but hopefully the operating system will tell us.

Difference are returned to the BIOS later for overcooking purposes.

After a swift restart in an almost immediate boot up into a Bantu, I set about double checking the disc sizes.

Doing so felt very snappy, and sure enough we had to 120 gig SS D's.

I think a larger storage drive was probably in here once.

Hence thes Satur cable I found connected to the air unless this was for unlimited cloud storage.

Get it terrible.

Honestly, I have little experience with the Bantu or anything that isn't Windows.

So for today's testing purposes, I'm going to be using the latest build of Windows 10.

After adding my one terabyte SSD into the mix, it was time to download the necessary drivers for the graphics card.

If anything's going to go wrong, it will be now.

Sure enough, the installation wizard if we're still calling it that failed about halfway through and I got a black screen.

Turns out we're restarting a switch to H.

D M I instead of display port.

Fix this, but the display put worked just fine.

After restarting the system again.

Strange, I then checked.

We had everything installed by going to device manager and once more restarted the PC.

This is when I decided to over clock the machine.

I went up slowly in increments before eventually setting the C P ratio to 47 or 4.7 gigahertz, leaving the Corps voltage on auto men.

It was at 1.52 This is way too high in the long run, and we'll have a detrimental effect on life span.

So I manually bought this down to a 1.375 any lower, and we saw a blue screen on boot.

The liquid cooler was definitely audible now, to say the least, but the idol temperature of the process out was around 39 degrees Celsius.

So how does this system perform in 2019?

This aging socket is still often praised, but it just makes little sense to me, considering the price off motherboards.

If you can get one cheek, it's a different story.

Likewise, if you can find a well priced complete build.

But what a chip it will still make light work of video editing with Premiere Pro running Justus.

Well, as it did on say, my first Gen rising 5 1600 everything is smooth and fluent.

Oh yeah, I also double check the Ram and the 4 12 Giggs was showing up here in Cina bench.

The multi core testing was happy to see the overcoat.

39 30 k show the ice 7 77 100 k.

Who's boss, even if it was just by over 100 points.

Remember, it's not all about the CPU as our 9 80 is still part of this package, so it's game time starting with Battlefield five high 10.

80 p and R frame rates were very acceptable indeed.

We averaged 67 during our tank mission run, the temperature stayed within a safe range all round.

I was certainly more concerned with the IE seven's temp as they do run hot, but the antic cooler was doing a good job.

Thus far.

The 9 80 was being fully utilized here.

And while the CPU, you see, just started off with 100% it dropped to the figures you see on screen Now, after the levels opening 10 seconds, that really to also fared well with a delightful 70 plus F p s on average, the 1% on 10.1% figures mean that there was no stutter to speak off during this time trial race.

We were using the high settings once again a 10 80 p a resolution that seems to be the sweet spot for the 9 80 in 2019 with a 60 f p s target in mind.

It really still is a great card.

Likewise can be said for the process, sir, I still can't drive to save my life, but oh, well, as you'd expect fortnight run fine, too, with over 100 f.

B s a 10 80 p.

This wasn't the most demanding game tested today, and I think that goes without saying.

But it can sometimes be a mixed bag, with the game running completely different to how you expect it to.

There was no stutter or anything to report here.

Epic settings would impact the result, but again have no detrimental effect on those one or 10.1% percent old figures.

Starting another fight in Kingdom Come Deliverance surely knocked my frame rate about a bit, though the average was 60 at high.

I did notice some severe frame drops as we explored the village.

This was mainly due to the graphics card rather than the process at which came nowhere near being the limiting factor, just like the eye 5 25 100 K that I tested the other day.

This CPU also benefits from overcooking 2019 for some games to agree with it.

Stock speeds may cause a few issues, but even then, the ice seven here is holding up very well.

As I mentioned before, it would certainly benefit from a faster GPU never has something scared me as much as when I was playing the Caspian level off Metro Exodus.

There was just minding my own business when all of a sudden these things jumped up into my face.

I actually screamed a little bit.

I don't know why.

Because I've played this level many times before.

I guess I just wasn't really concentrating that much.

What wasn't scary, though, was our frame right.

S on average walls a good result with that number going over 60 when things quiet and down, action wise, medium or guarantee.

A more solid result.

Burke, Hi gives us a nice visual boost.

Its a great looking title on one that performs nicely on this PC.

Finally, I gave rage to a well, and the result was similar to what we've seen thus far.

This machine is certainly still capable gamer, but I think the real winner here is the core I seven, which really doesn't break a sweat even today.

If you invested in one of these way back when then what a wise purchase that really Waas as the 12 Threads really come in handy today, I bet in 2011 you would have Bean ridiculed as the overkill king your friends.

Subtle, jab, screaming of jealous undertones.

That said, the chip for the few is now the chip for the many, as it can be found at a relatively reasonable price, though hi motherboard costs still deny a large portion of potential secondhand customers the chance of owning this old school dream CPU My advice.

Look out for Socket 2011 pre built peces, as I think that in a lot of cases, is where the better value lies, though if you can build yourself a trip socket 2011 based system, then by all means it may be worth doing.

Just consider other options, like how much it would cost to put together an AM four build where you live and whether or not some of Intel's newer stuff can be found at a better price on the used market.

With all that said and done well, I hope you've enjoyed the look at this c e X, pre built machine, something that I think was pretty decent value for money.
