You know, having somebody who has that world view, who, who knows what they wanna say, who knows what story they wanna tell.

That's critical, I mean, the speechwriter can come up with something on their own, but it really needs to be a collaborative process with the person who's speaking.

才能讓他的演講發揮十足的影響力。演講稿的撰寫者可以在演講稿內加入自己的想法和理念，但要產生一個具有靈魂的演講稿，就需要撰稿人和演講者好好進行溝通。

We approach any speech by asking yourself, "What story do we want to tell?"

在發表一場演講前，你應該要先問問自己想告訴聽眾什麼樣的故事。

We try to come up with a headline for the speech first, you know, whether it's one, two, or three sentences, because that's what you have to hang everything on, otherwise it won't hold together.

我們通常會先為演講訂定一個主題，標題可以是一句、兩句或三句話都沒關係。因為你必須讓演講內容與標題緊緊相扣，否則會顯得文不對題。

Tonight, I want to talk about what kind of future we're going to have and what kind of a nation we are going to be.

今晚，我想談談我們國家的未來。

One thing all great speeches have in common is that they're bigger than the place, they say something bigger than the moment, you know, something like Lincoln's Gettysburg Address.

每一場好的演講都有個共通點，那就是這些演講的格局非常大。舉已故美國前總統林肯鼎鼎有名的《蓋茲堡演說》為例。

Like, he said it wasn't just to consecrate the ground where soldiers gave their lives, it was to dedicate ourselves to making sure that a nation conceived in liberty could endure.

他在演講中提到，蓋茲堡國家公墓的落成不只是要聖化這塊犧牲許多勇者所得來的土地，也應確保國家的民主精神得以不朽長存。

So any great speech has to speak to something bigger than that particular moment, you have to look beyond the headline you're gonna get the next day, you have to look beyond tweets.

由此可知，任何一場好的演講都需要超越時空的限制。你的目光應該要放得比登上隔日新聞頭條或是被推特用戶轉推更遠、更廣。

We... wouldn't necessarily write speeches with an eye towards what people will say about it in 50 years, but you're thinking about the broader sweep of history and where you fit.

也不是叫你「預測未來五十年內人們會討論的話題」。而是希望你可以綜觀歷史的所有面向，找出自己的立足點。

Today, in the world of freedom, the proudest boast is, "Ich bin ein Berliner."

在這個自由的年代裡，最讓人自豪的一句話是：「我是柏林人。」

You know, other things that make a great speech are authenticity.

此外，「真實性」也是一場好演講不可或缺的元素之一。

And authenticity is, you know, so, it's something more than just the truth, it's actually saying what's true.

而真實性不只是單指事實本身，而是告訴人們「何謂事實」。

And I don't just mean the facts, I mean things that people know, the way people speak in their everyday lives.

我指的不單單只是事實，而是發表貼地、貼近人們的言論。

Not every great speech has to be up here like Lincoln or Kennedy, and people can tell when you're trying too hard.

你的演講不一定需要像林肯或甘迺迪那種程度，人們看得出你是不是刻意在模仿。

A lot of times great speeches are just talking to people where they are.

很多時候，好的演講只需要貼近人們生活。

Your fervor, your energy, your courage, always is something that's going to carry me forth.

你們的熱情、精力和勇氣，是讓我前進的動力。

Humor goes a long way in speeches, but it's also very hard.

在發表演講的過程中適時發揮幽默感很加分，不過幽默感的拿捏也是一門功課。

President Obama would also say, you know, "Give me some more jokes in here," and comedy is difficult; we were always very lucky that President Obama had a great sense of comic timing.

美國總統歐巴馬也會說：「幫我在演講稿裡加更多的笑點」，可見幽默演講真的很難。幸運的是總統歐巴馬本身講話就已經風趣十足。

And he knew it, but he was always good at telling jokes.

歐巴馬知道自己很幽默，而他也很非常會說笑話。

He relished... you know, he'd always dig at himself first in a self-deprecating way, just to open it up so that he could dig on somebody else.

他也樂此不疲。他總是喜歡先自嘲，接著挖苦別人。

I am told that the last three speakers here have been the Pope, Her Majesty the Queen, and Nelson Mandela, which is either a very high bar or the beginning of a very funny joke.

我被告知前三位在這裡演講的人分別是教皇、英女王和曼德拉總統，而能夠在這演講的要不是因為名聲相當高，就是被當作笑話的開頭。

You want to know where you are and who you're talking to, even if it's small as visiting a high school and knowing who the mascot is⏤that handshake at the top of the speech goes a long way.

你必須認清自己是在何種場合演講、聽眾是誰，即使只是去一所高中進行演講，你也要做足功課，包括搞清楚學校的吉祥物是什麼。

And then you have the permission structure to take the audience on a greater ride.

主動出示善意也是演講裡重要的一環，藉此可以搭建起你和聽眾間的關係，聽眾會更願意聆聽你說的話。

I'd also say read widely.

我也建議你應該要廣泛閱讀。

You know, that's... that's where empathy comes from, is understanding other people's lives and world views beyond your own.

閱讀有助於你拓展視野，更深入了解他人的生活與世界，從而讓你變得更能設身處地的為他人著想。

I, I don't have any classic training in speechwriting; I started out as a pre-med student, and chemistry changed that course pretty quickly.

我從來沒有接受過任何專業的演講稿撰寫訓練。我本來是醫學預科學生，但在因緣際會下，我很快就轉換了人生跑道。

But I would tell students, you know, take a lot of history courses.

我給學生的建議是，多上與歷史相關的課程。

It, it doesn't always have to be writing and composition.

不是說一定都要修寫作相關課程。

History, economics, philosophy... 'cause you're gonna pull from all those disciplines in any good political speech.

歷史、經濟、哲學... 最好都要接觸，因為優秀的政治演講中不乏這些知識。

And with that, I just have two more words to say...
