字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Noun Phrase 59. The noun phrase today is ballpark figure. You know, like a like in a baseball game. That's a ballpark. Okay. So let's take a look at the note here. A ballpark figure is an approximate estimate or a guess at an amount. Yeah . We do use it a lot . Like any time you're having somebody fix something. You're like , maybe you took your car in and the mechanic says well, you need a new engine. You say yeah well how much is that going to cost and he says well I won't really know until the job is done. And you might say, well can you give me a ballpark figure ? Something like that. That's the way it's used. So let's continue with the note here. This noun phrase comes from another phrase' in the ballpark ." Which, which means something is in the close area of real value. Therefore a ballpark figure was a close estimate. Okay. Yeah so again you think you know like maybe if you want somebody to offer you money. You know, and it's still not enough, well you're in the ballpark, but I still want more. You know, in the ballpark means. You're getting close, you're getting close. So let's look at a couple of examples here. Example number one. How much money would it take to start up business like that ? Give me a ballpark figure ? That's just the way we would use it. Or number two. If I were to put this antique up for auction, what kind of money do you think it could fetch ? You know, what could it sell for how much could I get for it ? Give me a ballpark figure you know, because maybe you know you'll decide whether you might think about actually selling it now or later or or maybe you're just really interested in you know knowing what the what the value might be. Or a guess at it anyway. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it's clear. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
