字幕列表 影片播放 列印英文字幕 Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Proverbs 138. The proverb today is forewarned is forearmed. Remember fore always means like before or ahead of time. Warn, so you're getting a warning ahead of time is forearmed. Your armed, you're prepared. You have like weapons against something. You're armed against something bad or a danger that may come to you. So that's what we mean by forewarned is forearmed. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. The proverb basically means having a warning in advance will provide one with an advantage. If one is ignorant or unaware of a danger, there is no way to prepare for it. Being forewarned allows one to prepare or guard against a possible danger. It is up to... meaning you know it's up to that person to decide. Some people sometimes they, they ignore warnings. Sometimes it is up to the individual to take the steps to prepare or ignore it. It is often given when trying to warn someone or... someone of something, especially if you are unsure he or she will follow it. That's when you're more likely going to use it. So let's give one example of the way it might be used. Like someone may say you had better follow my advice. You had better listen to me. You better follow my advice. Remember being forewarned is forearmed. So I'm letting you know ahead of time. I'm giving you that warning. You know, be careful. You should follow it. You should heed my advice. Okay. And. Let's continue here. The origin of this proverb is believed to come from two Latin terms which are actually pretty similar. praemonitus or praemunitus that are translated , they say kind of in in a loose way.Indirectly to mean forewarned is forearmed. It really didn't start to be used a lot until it started to be used more commonly in the late 1500s. That's when it started to become more common. Anyway I hope you got it. I hope it was informative. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
