  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Noun Phrase 102. The noun phrase today is eager-beaver.

  • Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. If you say that someone is an eager

  • beaver. You mean that that person is very enthusiastic and is willing to work very

  • hard , especially to please others. Okay. Let's continue. It tends to be used more

  • with younger people or someone who may be a newcomer at a company. Yeah. So

  • that's why they're new at the company so they're more likely to be an eager

  • beaver at that time. They have to you know prove themselves. Let's continue. The

  • origin probably comes from the idea that the animal, beaver is a very hard worker.

  • This can often be seen by all the effort they put into building dams, shelters, etc.

  • Okay. All right. Good. So let's just look at a few examples to cover this idea.

  • Example number one. That new employee is a real eager beaver. He often volunteers

  • to do much more work. Much more than his assigned work. Okay. So he's definitely an

  • eager beaver, He tries very hard, maybe he's trying to impress the boss or maybe you know he's

  • just enthusiastic right now. Number two, Many new members of that organization

  • start out as eager beavers, but after a while their enthusiasm starts to fade.

  • Yeah. That could happen anywhere. But it could be you know, maybe it's an

  • organization like Greenpeace or something like that. All right. Let's look

  • at number three. Many eager beaver lawyers become

  • ambulance chasers. Yeah. A long time ago I did the noun phrase on an ambulance

  • chaser. That's the type of lawyer that's really trying hard to find clients. You

  • know they see like somebody get into ...you know, they get slightly get hurt, but not

  • really hurt and they'll run over and hand them their

  • card. You know, oh you know if you need a lawyer you know we might be able to sue

  • them and so they're they're out there actually trying to find their clients

  • physically. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it is clear. I hope it was informative. Thank

  • you for your time. Bye-bye.
