  • Sometimes you can improve your English a hell of a lot in a very short amount of time.

    有時候你能在最短的時間內讓你的英文進步神速。

  • And today we're going to do exactly that.

    今天我們就是要來做這一件事。

  • I want to show you one thing today that will really improve your English.

    我今天要來教你能讓你英文進步的一個要點。

  • 1,000 % sure this is the mistake that I correct most often more than any other mistake.

    我百分之一千確定這是我糾正過最多次的錯誤。

  • This is the one that I hear most in my classes and this is the mistake.

    我在我的班級上最常聽見的錯誤就是這個。

  • Listen for the reply that she gives.

    聽聽她給的回覆。

  • I'm going to the cinema later.

    我等等要去電影院。

  • Do you want to go to the cinema?

    妳要去電影院嗎?

  • Yes, I want.

    想,我想。

  • Okay.

    好。

  • Did you hear the mistake in her reply?

    你有聽到她的回答裡的錯誤嗎?

  • Let's use the same mistake but a different example.

    我們來把她的錯誤用在其他情境。

  • Do you want a coffee?

    妳要喝咖啡嗎?

  • Yes, I want.

    要,我想。

  • How about that time?

    這次呢?

  • No?

    沒有嗎?

  • Let's do another one.

    再來一個。

  • Do you want a banana?

    妳要吃香蕉嗎?

  • Yes, I want.

    要,我想。

  • Do you want this banana?

    妳要吃這根香蕉嗎?

  • Yes, I want.

    要,我想。

  • Okay, fine.

    噢,好吧。

  • So something is missing here.

    有東西不見了。

  • Let's fix it.

    我們來修正。

  • This is a very common mistake so don't worry if you didn't see the mistake in this question.

    這是一個常見的錯誤,所以不用擔心你找不到錯在哪裡。

  • There's one word missing.

    有一個字不見了。

  • Do you know what it is?

    你知道是什麼嗎?

  • To!

    受詞!

  • And remember her reply was this, "Yes, I want."

    記得嗎?她的回答是:「要,我想。」

  • Now in Latin languages, probably others too.

    拉丁語系的語言,或許其他系的也是這樣。

  • It's enough to say your equivalent of "I want" for the reply.

    只要說「我想」就可以適當表達你的語意了。

  • However, in English we must have an object.

    但是,在英文裡,我們必須要有受詞。

  • In this case the object is a verb "to go".

    在這裡個情就裡,受詞是一個動詞:「想去」。

  • You can of course say, "Yes, I want to go."

    你當然可以說:「要,我想去。」

  • That's fine, no problem.

    這樣可以,沒問題。

  • However, it's much more common, much more natural.

    不過,有更常用、更自然的說法。

  • Just to say, "I want to."

    你只要說:「我要。」

  • "Yeah, I want to."

    「要,我要。」

  • And the same for any other verb.

    其他的動詞也是一樣。

  • "Do you want to sleep?"

    「你想睡覺嗎?」

  • "Yes, I want to, very much."

    「想,我要,非常想要。」

  • Let's change the verb for a noun.

    我們來把動詞換成名詞。

  • For example: "Do you want a coffee?"

    例如:「你要喝咖啡嗎?」

  • In your reply you still need that object.

    你的回答一樣需要一個受詞。

  • Which object should I use for a coffee?

    咖啡要用哪個受詞呢?

  • Just say, "Yeah I want one... I always want one."

    只要說「我想喝一杯,我每次都想要來一杯。」

  • This talks about something general.

    一般的東西都可以這樣說。

  • But if you're talking about a specific thing then the question might be, "Do you want this?"

    但如果你在說一個指定的東西的話,問題或許會是:「你要這個嗎?」

  • "Do you want that?"

    「你要那個嗎?」

  • In which case the reply would not be, "I want one."

    如果是如此,回答就不會是:「我要一個。」

  • We're talking about a specific thing.

    我們在說的是一個特定的東西。

  • The reply is, "It".

    回答應該是「它」。

  • "Yes, I want it! Give it to me!"

    「對,我要它!把它給我!」

  • But honestly this happens in many other examples.

    但老實說,在很多情境下也會發生這種事情。

  • This is an example of not using the object when you should.

    以下就是在該用受詞時沒有用受詞的例子。

  • For example, if you want to ask "Did you like, love, hate this thing?"

    比如說,如果你想問:「你喜歡、愛或討厭這樣東西嗎?」

  • This one singular thing.

    這個單一的東西。

  • Then your answer should not be, "Yes, I loved."

    那你的答案不應該是「是,我愛。」

  • You're missing that object.

    你少了一個受詞。

  • In this case it's a singular thing.

    在這個情境中,是一個單一的東西。

  • We're talking specifically, so, what is that object?

    我們在說特定的東西,所以,受詞是什麼?

  • It's a pronoun.

    是一個代詞。

  • "It" of course.

    當然是「它」。

  • So don't forget your objects, don't forget your pronouns.

    所以不要忘了你的受詞,不要忘了你的代詞。

  • But be careful, modal verbs don't work the same.

    但注意了,遇到情態動詞時,用法不一樣。

  • In a question like "Can you dance?"

    像是「你會跳舞嗎?」這種問題。

  • Notice that modal verbs don't have "to" with the verb.

    注意到情態動詞中沒有一個「它」。

  • So it works different.

    所以會不一樣。

  • Your answer should not be, "Yes, I can to."

    所以你的答案不會是「會,我會跳它。」

  • Noooo.

    不是。

  • Because remember in the question there's no "Can you to dance?"

    記得他的問題並不是「你會跳它嗎?」

  • No.

    不是。

  • So the answer, no "to" !

    所以,答案裡不會有「它」。

  • So never forget your objects and your "to" preposition in sentences and questions.

    所以別忘了你的回答和問題裡的受詞跟介系詞「它」。

  • Thank you so much for watching.

    謝謝你們的收看。
