I don't know. ♪ (intense interlude) ♪ - It doesn't make any sense. - I'm so confused. - Rock, dude! - Yeah! Rock on! - So into the music! They're like, ♪ "Ah, da, da!" ♪ - I would totally buy this song. (laughs) Like, it gets you in the zone. ♪ (fast-paced guitar solo) ♪ - Wow, that is actually pretty good guitar playing. ♪ (tempo escalating) ♪ - I don't think this is classified as music. - ♪ Once upon a planet burning, once upon a flame ♪ - Can't understand what they're saying. - I have no idea what you are saying. - I hate hard rock. - ♪ Do you feel it terminating in the end? ♪ - These guys are wild. - God, it won't stop. (scoffs deeply) ♪ (music wraps up abruptly) ♪ - It's hard to believe that people actually listen to that. It's just... (intense screaming) - I didn't hear a single word that they said. Now I know how my dad thinks about Lil Wayne. - (children) Question time! - (Finebros) Okay. So do you know who this band is? - I don't. - No. - No idea. - No, never seen them before. - No idea. No way, Jose. - No, I don't think I should know. Or I don't even think I want to know. - (Finebros) This is the new song from the band Metallica. - That's a weird name. - Oh, I've heard of that band. - Oh yeah, I've heard that name before. - I've heard of them on, like, TV. My dad has some shirts. - I've seen Kylie Jenner wear one of those shirts. I haven't really heard their music. - I have heard of them, but I have no idea who they are. - (Finebros) And what kind of music would you say this is? - Rock and roll. (buzzer) - I think it's called punk rock. (buzzer) - (giggling) Hardcore... really, like, woohoo! (buzzer) - Hard metal rock and roll? 'Cause they're like, "Brahh! Brahh! Brahh! Brahh! Brahh! Brahh!" (buzzer) - Heavy metal. - (gruff voice) Heavy metal. Brahhhh! (ding) - (Finebros) This is considered "heavy metal." - What does that mean? - Oh, that's what it's called. - (Finebros) Would you say that you liked it? - Yeah, kind of. - Yeah, I'm okay with it. - Yeah. I don't know. It just gets you pumped. I don't normally listen to this kind of music. It's very different. - No. - I'm sorry, no. - No, not at all. It's too loud for me, and it's not soothing. - No. Because it makes absolutely no sense. - (Finebros) So this is a picture of the band. What do you think? - They look like really mad. - They're kind of a little weird looking. - They all have long hair. - They definitely give off a heavy metal kind of feel. - They look like they're sitting on a bench in prison because they just robbed the store. - This was from a long time ago. I like that mullet right there. - (Finebros) Well, that picture is an old picture of them from almost 30 years ago. - (incredulously) What? - Here they look like in their 20s. So they must be very old. - So they're like 60 right now? - (Finebros) Here's a picture of what they look like now, with a new bass player. - (tune of "Shave and a Haircut") What do they look like? Boop, boop. Oh! They still look like they can and would play heavy metal. - They're like 80. - Whoa! What a transformation! - It's not that unsimilar, except that some of them cut their hair. - You wouldn't really expect that kind of music from men their age. - (Finebros) What do you think about them being this age and still making heavy music like this? - They're still playing to this day? That's pretty bad butt. - That's kinda cool though, I mean, like living your dream. - It's pretty cool actually, 'cause they're dedicated to still do that. - I guess they just really love the music. You could be in your 70s, or you could be in your 20s, and you could still play the music. - (Finebros) So Metallica is considered by many to be the most important metal band of all time. And many rock bands today say that Metallica is one of their biggest influences. - That's cool. - How do I not know them yet? - (Finebros) So we're now gonna play you a few of their classic songs. - Mm-hmm, I like classic rock. - I swear, if this is blazing loud, (scoffs) you're gonna get it. - ♪ Your life burns faster ♪ - Okay. This isn't too bad. - ♪ ...your master ♪ ♪ Master ♪ - I don't know if they're saying "faster" or "master." - ♪ Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams ♪ - I don't like this sound-- oh, this music's so bad. - ♪ ...a thing ♪ ♪ Just call my name ♪ - It's like a sick beat. And the drums and the guitars. - ♪ Master ♪ - It is actually pretty cool. - Is this how they are in all their songs? Like, they just yell? - I actually like this. It sounds like this other rock band named Nirvana. ♪ (menacing thrash metal) ♪ - (imitating shooting, giggles) It sounds like a gun is shooting rapid fire. - Oh my god, just say some words. - ♪ Darkness imprisoning me ♪ - (gruff voice) Darkness! Darkness! - ♪ ...horror, I cannot live ♪ ♪ I cannot die ♪ - Whoa. Wait, this sounds so familiar. - ♪ ...holding cell ♪ ♪ (powerful interlude) ♪ - Their songs seem the same. - I don't understand how people would enjoy this. ♪ (mellow electric guitar music) ♪ - I've heard this before. - I think I've heard this before somewhere. ♪ (drum joins in) ♪ - This one's calm. Watch it go crazy right now. ♪ (metal chords join in) ♪ - Yeah, it's getting louder. I can feel it. ♪ (mid-tempo metal music) ♪ - I actually like this. - ♪ Say your prayers, little one ♪ ♪ Don't forget, my son ♪ - It sounds kinda scary but cool at the same time. - ♪ Tuck you in, warm within ♪ ♪ Keep you free from sin ♪ ♪ Till the Sandman he comes ♪ ♪ Sleep with one eye open ♪ - Whoa! Ha. It just said to sleep with one eye open. - ♪ Exit: light ♪ - This is actually not bad. - ♪ ...night ♪ - This sounds really, uh, intense. - ♪ We're off to never never land ♪ - That was awesome. - It's actually good rock music. - The guys singing, I'm a fan. Screaming, no thank you. - (Finebros) So finally, after listening to more of their music, what do you think has made Metallica so successful for so long playing this type of music? - Well, they're definitely experienced. They've been doing it for like 30 years. And I actually really like it. - It's different. And on the radio, it's always Justin Bieber and stuff. But when you hear those weird noises, you want to know what it is. - The lyrics are definitely not the kind that you hear every day. And that's what makes them special. And the beats are awesome.
