  • My name's Wengie and my channel's about DIYs, crafts, lifestyle

  • just basically anything that you can be creative with

  • and it's called Wengie.

  • I used to be a blogger

  • and my blogging audience requested my makeup look.

  • So I started off going "OK, I'll just make makeup videos then"

  • because that's what they wanted to see

  • and then I was finding at the two-year mark I was getting kind of bored of it.

  • I guess it became quite repetitive for me.

  • So I think that's usually a sign whether you need to make a change or not.

  • Honestly, do you love what you do?

  • And it's OK to say, "I don't enjoy it".

  • If you're deciding to evolve your channel content

  • and you truly have felt stuck for a long time

  • one thing that really helped me was finding inspiration.

  • "I wanna be more like that person," or, "I wanna be more like that."

  • When I was watching these life hack videos or these lifestyle videos

  • I was like, "Wow, look at their shots, they're really pretty

  • "and I want my channel to look like that."

  • See what's trending, see what people are watching

  • is there any content that you tend to watch that you enjoy?

  • Is there some way you can incorporate what you're enjoying at the moment

  • that is doing well on YouTube

  • and can you spin that in your style and your personality?

  • You know, what is popular meets what you love.

  • Maybe reach out to your audience first

  • and see, throw out some ideas going "Is this something you guys wanna watch?"

  • and very quickly because of the Internet

  • you will know whether it's something they want to watch.

  • And the great thing about pivoting

  • when you already have experience in another category of content

  • is looking at your strengths and seeing

  • what can you bring to this new industry, area or type of content

  • that could set you apart from everyone that's already there?

  • Look into your own skill sets and styles and say

  • "Can I do content in this new industry but just with a personal twist?"

  • And maybe slowly pivot, as opposed to doing a drastic change

  • maybe take a little step first.

  • Do something closer to what you want to do but your current audience already loves

  • and then slowly move

  • or supplement your new type of content with your old type of content.

  • The other thing is, you could take the risk and just change your audience.

  • That can be done as well.

  • But you need to know there's gonna be some down time

  • before your channel picks up.

  • When I posted my first life hack video, people enjoyed it

  • but when I stopped posting my makeup videos

  • and started just purely focusing on more lifestyle videos

  • There was lots of like

  • "Wengie, I signed up to your channel for makeup videos

  • "you're not making any, why am I here?"

  • and there was a lot of negativity around my new change in content

    「Wengie

  • mainly because I dropped the old content as well.

  • I did do a few transitional videos but they were not happy

  • so it was interesting because I didn't anticipate that

  • and I thought they would enjoy the new content just as much as I did.

  • I feel like the change was the best decision I've ever made.

  • Not only do I feel creatively fulfilled but my channel grew at an exponential rate

  • and I think part of it is also when you do content you're passionate about

  • it shows, and when it shows, people appreciate it

  • and therefore, your channel just naturally does better

  • no matter what drop in views you have in the short term

  • I feel like in the long term

  • if you can sustain and create quality content because you love doing it

  • it's going to work out for the better in the long run.

My name's Wengie and my channel's about DIYs, crafts, lifestyle
