When I was in high school, I had zero idea what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.

當我還是高中生，我對於未來想做什麼沒有半點想法。

One day my accounting teacher told me that I could make a lot of money as an accountant and being young I was like, "Yes money, so let's do it."

有天我的會計老師告訴我，若我選擇當會計師，我可以賺到很多錢；年輕的我為了賺大錢，就一頭熱地決定去做。

So I proceeded to spend the next year getting the credits that I needed to get into the university that I wanted to go to and ultimately I did get into that school.

接著我花了一年的時間修完該修的學分，以進入理想中的大學，最後我成功考上了。

I spent the next five and a half years getting a Master of Accountancy degree and I got a job working in public accounting making a cool thirty thousand dollars a year, except that I was miserable.

我接著花了五年半拿到會計碩士學位，並找到一份公共會計的差事，一年可以賺三萬塊美金；可是呢，我感到無比悲慘。

I didn't want to admit that to myself because I had invested so much time and money into getting that degree.

我不想承認，因為我為了這個學位，已經投資了這麼多的時間與金錢。

So I convinced myself, "Hey, this is just what people do. You get a job and you sit in a cubicle and you put your head down and you just work."

於是我試著說服自己：「人生就是這樣，找到一個困在小格子裡的工作，在格子裡埋頭苦幹，反正你就是得工作。」

One day the firm administrator called me into their office and had an envelope in front of them.

直到有一天，公司主管把我叫進他們的辦公室，面前放一個信封對我說：

"Thank you for everything you've done here but business has slowed down and you got to go now bye-bye."

「謝謝你一直以來的付出，但公司業績不佳，只好跟你說掰掰。」

And within minutes that safe job I had worked all of those years suddenly wasn't so safe anymore.

不過是幾分鐘的光景，我花了數年時間耕耘的穩定工作就變得再也不穩定。

We're taught to take the safe route but the truth is the safe route isn't safe at all.

我們總是被教導要打安全牌，但那根本稱不上安全。

So, why am I not taking the same risk by working for myself.

我何不把同樣的賭注下在自己身上？

I had discovered YouTube a year prior and fell in love with it.

被解僱前一年我發現了 YouTube 這個平台，立刻愛上它。

I had been making videos on the side occasionally for fun but now I decided it was time to go all-in.

之前我只把製作影片當作偶爾的樂趣，但現在我決定要全心投入。

But I won't lie my time off was tough. I had no guarantee that taking this risk would actually ever pay off.

然而我也得承認，有段時間很難熬，我完全無法保證這回風險最後會值得一切投入。

There were many nights that I laid in bed wide awake wondering if I'd made the right decision at all.

很多個夜晚，我躺在床上睡不著，想著我的選擇究竟是否正確？

I spent the next year of my life broke and feeling lost with no sense of direction.

接下來一年，我超窮，而且感到非常迷失，找不到方向。

I felt like I was just floating in an endless sea of doubt.

我感覺自己漂流在自我質疑的茫茫大海。

All that I had was faith and a little determination. But at the end of that year something happened.

我擁有的不過是信仰以及僅存的決心；但同年年底，有件事發生了。

My video started getting views.

我做的影片獲得越來越多的點閱率。

My videos went from getting a few hundred views to a few thousand, to tens of thousands, and eventually hundreds of thousands.

我的影片從數百到數千到數萬、甚至數十萬。

After a few months I started making the same as my accounting job, and then more.

幾個月後我開始賺到跟會計差不多的薪水，而且越賺越多。

It took something bad to happen to me to force me to try something new, something that might make me happy!

是因為那次悲慘遭遇，我才有嘗試新事物的契機，找到能真正帶給我快樂的事物。

And I think that's where most people in this world fall flat.

我想在這世上有許多人都因此搞得灰頭土臉、一敗塗地。

Most people are not willing to take a risk on a better life that makes them happier because they've gotten comfortable in a job or a life that just doesn't fulfill them.

他們不願意去冒險去追尋一個更快樂的人生，因為他們對原先的工作或生活模式感到舒適，就算那些日子無法為他們帶來滿足感。

The reason I'm telling you this story is in case you are one of those people who has that nagging voice in their minds, telling you that this isn't what you were meant to do.

我之所以要分享這個故事，是怕你就是那種人，發現腦海裡一直有某種碎碎念的聲音，告訴你這不是你該做的事情。
