  • - [David] Your scalp could be removed.

  • (screams)

  • - [Chrissy] All the little holes of my hair follicles

  • could bleed

  • - One, two, three, go!

  • (screams)

  • - [Chrissy] Oh God, I'm sliding!

  • - Welcome back to our lab-beaut-ory!

  • - I'm Selorm. - And I'm Chrissy.

  • Alright, dudes, here's the deal.

  • You (chirp) love Disney,

  • you (chirp) love drama.

  • Luckily, we love debunking,

  • so we're gonna get a full season

  • of Disney-themed drama coming your way.

  • What's up first, Selorm, tell 'em.

  • - When you think of the most iconic Disney princess hair,

  • who do you think of?

  • Rapunzel! Right, right?

  • - Yeah!

  • Let's just, like, deep dive into Rapunzel's life.

  • She's a teen,

  • she's trapped in a tower,

  • and her mom sucks, okay?

  • Her mom is basically a witch who kidnapped her

  • and uses, like, her hair powers to make herself look hotter,

  • a.k.a. younger, but younger doesn't always mean hotter,

  • like, don't follow beauty standards, okay?

  • The only way that she can get her mom up there

  • is if she throws her hair through that tiny (chirp) window.

  • Her mom's like, "Hey, let me up!"

  • She has, like, a little pulley.

  • She, like, latches it in there,

  • so she's all "boop!"

  • And then she, like, lets it go

  • and then her mom literally, just like,

  • puts her foot in it and then Rapunzel is like

  • And then her mom is like, "I suck, hey!"

  • And then they chat and hang out

  • and that's, like, her only social interaction for the day.

  • That's (chirp) up. - That's real (chirp) up.

  • How does her neck not break, actually?

  • - Like, you think about, like, all your teen probs

  • and you're like, "Rapunzel's going through it."

  • So we know Rapunzel's a boss (chirps),

  • so we need to figure out

  • if you actually can lift a human with your hair

  • through a pulley system.

  • We're going to need to talk to a physics expert,

  • because I don't know anything about pulleys.

  • - Nope.

  • - And we're going to have to get our hair done.

  • - But I just got my hair done, so this is something for you.

  • - Great.

  • - For Rapunzel.

  • - Yeah. I'm doing this for Rapunzel.

  • Also I know you love your mom,

  • but, like, she's (chirp) up, don't listen to her.

  • I know you don't have Internet, and you can't see this.

  • Her only friend was a lizard man. That's so sad.

  • Love you, 'Zel. This is for you.

  • Flynn's hot.

  • - My name's Jenna Ervin,

  • I'm the science program specialist,

  • at Kidspace Children's Museum in Pasadena, California!

  • - So will you tell us the physics behind

  • Rapunzel pulling up her mom

  • with just one little pulley?

  • - So what we're basically looking at are two masses.

  • One mass is Rapunzel's mom and one mass is Rapunzel.

  • And they're being connected over a pulley by a single rope.

  • - So you think that hair can lift a human?

  • - Yeah, oh, easily.

  • The hair isn't the problem, it's the neck breakage.

  • - Oh, (chirp).

  • - [Jenna] So her neck wants to stay on her body

  • vertically, but if your force is moving horizontally,

  • it's going to snap it that way.

  • - And then you would die.

  • - Yeah. (laughs)

  • - So use the leverage of your arms

  • and the leverage of your, like, legs and torso

  • to help pull that in.

  • - So do you think that this is possible?

  • - I think it's possible.

  • - Okay. Without dying?

  • - Um

  • - (gasps) Oh my God.

  • It's David Dang!

  • He fixed that sword situation of a haircut.

  • Let me just lay this out for you,

  • like, I want to be Rapunzel.

  • I want a 70-foot-long, blonde, gorgeous train of hair

  • that I can, like, whip around,

  • like, pull people up with

  • - And a yacht attached to that, too,

  • while we're at it, right? (laughs)

  • - Let's just pull the yacht in.

  • Hair can actually hold up to twelve tons.

  • - Wow. - So, doo doo do doo!

  • Twelve tons is about the size of two elephants.

  • - What?

  • - Seventy feet of hair is impossible.

  • - Why? - Because you would have

  • to be growing your hair

  • at a half an inch a month

  • and be anywhere from a 125 to dinosaur years.

  • - So what are some alternate solutions

  • to get that Rapunzel hair vibe.

  • - So we've created a head of hair for you, 60 inches,

  • which is five feet.

  • She is right here! (gasps)

  • - She keeps coming apparently.

  • - Oh! - That's so long!

  • - Oh my God, this is heavy.

  • This feels like my dog.

  • - [David] So it's synthetic hair

  • to kind of mimic the strands of hair on your head.

  • - Well, I already feel like it's a part of me.

  • - I got extensions put in my hair, like, multiple times

  • so I know that this is a process.

  • Chrissy, this is actually going to be sewn into your hair.

  • - So let's talk about the dangers

  • of what this hair could do for you, right?

  • Your head could snap at any moment.

  • Your edges could get snatched.

  • - [Selorm] Snatched right off.

  • - Your scalp could be removed.

  • - What?! - All gone.

  • - My scalp?! - Full on gone.

  • Full on gone. Gone, girl.

  • This whole entire process is probably going to take

  • anywhere from four to five hours.

  • - Oh my. - That's short, girl.

  • - [David] Did you eat lunch?

  • We're going to sew it in track by track

  • and the reason why were going to do that

  • is so your head doesn't move.

  • - Alright, um, I'm going to get some snacks,

  • and let's do this.

  • Thank you, guys.

  • This is sweet. - You're one of us.

  • One of us, one of us.

  • (upbeat music)

  • - [Chrissy] Selorm, are you ready to see me

  • for the first time?

  • - I'm ready, my hands are over my eyeballs.

  • - [Chrissy] Okay, don't looky yet!

  • - Okay. - Don't look...

  • - Don't touch me with the hair, I'm going to freak out.

  • Oh my God, no! (laughs)

  • (gasps) Oh my gosh!

  • You're a princess!

  • - I'm Rapunzel!

  • - Yo! This hair is as long as my body.

  • How does that feel? Are you not, like, struggling?

  • - Um

  • I am. - So today, we're gonna

  • test the strength of your hair

  • and you're gonna be lifting a human.

  • We couldn't find a human who would sign the waiver,

  • so we have a dummy.

  • - Oh. That's fine.

  • - Are you scared at all? - Yeah, yeah I am.

  • You know, here's the thing.

  • This is sewn into my freaking head.

  • - That's your scalp now.

  • - Meaning if this little dummy man comes along

  • and I drop it, all 110 pounds are gonna be like vvvpp.

  • Meaning I could break my neck.

  • All of the little holes of my hair follicles

  • could bleed profusely from my head.

  • Rapunzel made it look so easy

  • and I haven't even done anything yet

  • but I'm, like, already sweating.

  • - Okay, well, before we do anything with the dummy,

  • because that's dangerous as (chirp),

  • we're going to try a test with a frying pan.

  • And then we're going to try a test with a TV.

  • We have our paramedic here.

  • - Whatever you do,

  • do not try this at home.

  • No no no no no. - No no no.

  • (techno music)

  • (beep)

  • - We need to test your theory about the hair being able to

  • hold the weight of two elephants.

  • We're gonna start it off kind of easy.

  • We're gonna use this frying pan.

  • One of you can help put it through the hole.

  • (laughs) I'm sorry.

  • (laughs) - So this is really good

  • because this is a lighter object.

  • - [Chrissy] Wow, it looks like you've done this before.

  • - Absolutely.

  • - This is our first test.

  • We're just starting off small, little frying pan here.

  • You ready? - Little frying pan.

  • - Should I get, like, a little, like a little clock start?

  • - Swing. - A little tik tok?

  • - I don't know why we're all swinging

  • but we're going to swing together. (laughs)

  • (grunting)

  • - That's good, you did it! - Yay!

  • - Yeah, swing that pan.

  • How did we go from a frying pan to a TV?

  • - It'll be fine, you'll be fine.

  • Oh my God, I am so scared.

  • - Okay, we'll stand up.

  • (laughs) Stop.

  • - Should I hold your hair?

  • - [David] No no no, don't hold anything.

  • Take your hands away from the TV, just don't move

  • - Oh my God, I'm so scared - [David] Just don't move.

  • I'm going to gently let it go.

  • - Watch your feet, when she (chirp), oh (chirp),

  • I don't wanna do this.

  • - I'm still holding, I'm still holding it.

  • Don't worry.

  • - You're not! Oh!

  • - One finger at a time. Just one finger at a time.

  • (grunts)

  • - [David] Okay, there, There we go. Don't touch it.

  • - [Selorm] Oh my God!

  • - Yes! - I'm sweaty.

  • - I'm sweating too and I'm not even doing anything.

  • - Good job. That was good.

  • - Bye.

  • - Alright, dude.

  • Now it is officially time.

  • I'm going to go on this little towery tower thing,

  • and I'm going to throw my hair over it,

  • and we're going to add a few little rope inches

  • on to the end so that way I can, like,

  • get the full Rapunzel experience.

  • And then I'm gonna see if I can lift

  • 110 freaking pounds!

  • - [Selorm] I'm really scared for you.

  • - Why?

  • - I was freaking out a lot during that TV part.

  • - You know, so was I.

  • (laughs)

  • - Selorm! We're here! - Oh my god.

  • - Do you like my fake (chirp) tower?

  • - Yes, you look like a beautiful princess.

  • Just like, "Hello, my people."

  • - Clearly we already know the strength of hair.

  • Now it's about testing my strength.

  • Okay, I took some safety precautions.

  • Got some little glovey gloves with some little grippy-grips.

  • Like, I'm already tired.

  • - How are you already tired? - Because I'm stressed.

  • Alright. I'm gonna get a little leverage here.

  • - You can do it!

  • One, two, three, go pull pull pull pull pull!

  • (screams)

  • - [Chrissy] Oh God, I'm sliding.

  • - [Selorm] Keep pulling, you got it!

  • Okay, the chest is up. - How far'd I get?

  • - Well, you got the chest up and you got the head up.

  • - (scoffs) Okay, let me keep going.

  • - Okay, ready?

  • - One, two, three, go!

  • Pull it, pull it, keep pulling! (grunts)

  • - [Selorm] Keep going! Harder!

  • You're almost- kind of-

  • okay, it's, like, half way off the ground.

  • - How far'd I get? - The same thing.

  • - Why did that feel harder?

  • Okay, I'm going to try a new method

  • in which I turn around the other way.

  • - That's not what Rapunzel did, but do it.

  • - You know what?

  • - Alright. - That side sucks. (laughs)

  • I can't do that one.

  • You know, I'm having, like, a real moment.

  • I'm not as strong as I thought I was.

  • It's really heart breaking, you know?

  • Like, I really thought I could, like, lift her mom.

  • And I can't, I don't think.

  • - You're so close, I think it's worth one more try.

  • Three, two, one, go!

  • Alright, you got the torso and the head off the ground.

  • You're doing it! Keep pulling! Keep pulling!

  • - The tower is fall

  • - You're a hot mama, what you want to be in the future!

  • - I can't. Do you want to come up here with me and try?

  • We're both up here.

  • - We are, We're up here.

  • If I can lift 50 pounds,

  • and you can lift 50 pounds, then the other

  • - That's still not 110 so we can't do it.

  • - That's still (laughs)

  • - I feel more stressed with you up here for some reason.

  • - Oh my God, that's really mean.

  • - No it's not mean!

  • It's just, like, we're in tight quarters now.

  • - Three, two, one, go!

  • - Oh my God!

  • - Did we get it?

  • (Chirp) - We got the (chirp)!

  • Yeah. - Step off!

  • Fake moms!

  • - Let her free, drop her!

  • - Drop that (chirp)!

  • - (chirp), perfect.

  • - That's right, you're evil.

  • - We did it! - We did it.

  • - Oh (grunts).

  • - I feel like we still need to see

  • if one person can lift this, though.

  • - Yeah, like, we need a strong (chirp) human.

  • We found Swasti! - Hi!

  • - Swasti, tell us about how strong you are.

  • - I don't want to over hype myself here.

  • - No, you're never hyping. - Oversell yourself, come on!

  • - Okay, okay. Well, on a good day

  • I can dead lift around 205 pounds.

  • - I'm going to cheer you on

  • and I'm going to give you no work.

  • And I'll just be, like, hovering every so slightly.

  • If you let go, you gotta say it.

  • - Okay, I'll let you know.

  • - Because I don't want to be like (grunts)

  • and then, like, go with the mom.

  • - She could die. - Okay, cool.

  • - I won't let that happen to you.

  • - Alright, ready? Three, two, one, go!

  • - Yeah, you got this Swasti!

  • Pull it, pull, it

  • Get that hair, get that mom.

  • - Oh, it's standing! Keep going,

  • keep going. You're so close! - Get the mom!

  • - Yes! Yes! - Standing up!

  • The legs are off the ground!

  • The feet are off the ground!

  • You're doing big!

  • - I did it? Okay, I'm gonna let it go.

  • - Alright, I'm gonna- - Very slowly, very slowly.

  • Thank you, I'm surprised,

  • it must be the almonds that I ate right before this.

  • - Rapunzel is you!

  • - Bye!

  • - You, um- I'll be there once I untie this knot.

  • - We did it!

  • - This freaking worked!

  • So in concluzh

  • you can lift an entire human bod

  • with your little hair hairs if you're strong enough.

  • - I feel like Rapunzel was super toned,

  • like she must have been in that tower, just, like, lifting

  • - I don't know what she was doing up there.

  • - Yeah. - Maybe she had one of those,

  • like, bars that you put in your doorway,

  • and you just like, do pull ups?

  • So Rapunz lifting a human bod with her own hair?

  • Not bogus! Not at all.

  • (cheers)

  • - We did it!

  • So what sort of traumatic event should we go through next?

  • You decide.

  • - Do your hair dance, do your hair dance.

  • Shake it, shake it. - Why is this so awk?

  • - Okay, I'm getting tangled in it,

  • I'm not going to touch it.

  • (upbeat music)

- [David] Your scalp could be removed.
