  • Kevin here from SnowboardProCamp.

  • In this video I'm going to teach you how to do carving turns.

  • Carving is when you riding your snowboards edge around a turn.

  • with your back foot following your front leaving a clean line

  • in the snow. Carving is used to keep you in control at high speeds

  • for doing quick turns and in the terrain park when you're on the approach for a

  • spin.

  • There are five skills that come together

  • to help you complete your carving turn. Your stance, edging,

  • steering, pressure control and adapting to terrain. Your stance on your snowboard

  • needs to be balance

  • and centered to carve. Stand on your board in an athletic stance

  • with your knees bent, back straight and your hands at your sides

  • over your snowboards nose and tail.

  • To hold a carve around a turn

  • you need to have more of you snowboards edge in the snow.

  • Flex your ankles to increase the angle of your snowboard and lock in your edge.

  • Steering in a carve turn

  • needs to be quick and aggressive. Use your front knee and shoulder

  • to help you steer more dynamically through the carve. Turn your knee and shoulder

  • in for the toe carve

  • and turn your knee and shoulder

  • out for the heel carve.

  • Pressure builds

  • on your snowboard as you go around the carve turn with more pressure building

  • on your back foot toward the end of the turn.

  • Bend your knees around the turn to absorb that pressure.

  • Bend your back leg more

  • to absorb the pressure at the end of the turn.

  • Adapt the shape and speed of your carve

  • to the terrain that you're riding. Smaller carve turns on mellow terrain with less speed.

  • Larger carve turns on steep terrain with more speed

  • Work on putting

  • all these skills together to have a solid carving turn. If you guys have any questions

  • leave them in the comments section. If you have any problems carving

  • and you have a video, you can post a link to that video as a comment so I can watch

  • your riding

  • and give your some feedback.
