  • Back in college

    大學時期

  • if a paper is due on Monday

    如果報告的繳交日是禮拜一

  • I would waste time

  • until it’s the last day to work on it

  • Anyone who tries to tell me otherwise

  • I say to them

  • and I don’t have any assignment deadlines

  • But still, I procrastinate

  • I would start idling my time away

  • First Facebook, then Instagram

  • then YouTube, then Dcard

  • then Line and Messenger and Gmail

    最後則是 Line、Messenger 跟 Gmail

  • And at right about that time

    差不多那個時候

  • my brother would come check on me

    我的哥哥就會進來看看我在幹麻

  • and I would have to pretend I’m sleeping

    我就得假裝睡著了

  • and bury my phone under the sheets

    並把手機埋在棉被下

  • But after he’s gone

    等他走了之後

  • I would go through Facebook and Instagram one more time

    我會再滑一次 Facebook 和 Instagram

  • Then I would look at the time

    然後一看時間

  • It’s almost 2 am!

    竟然快兩點了!

  • Would any of you do this?

  • cutting yourself some slack

  • isn’t such a bad thing

  • if you want to stop procrastinating

  • here I want to share two simple tricks with you

  • First

  • the hardest part of doing anything

    萬事起頭難

  • is getting started

    開始就是成功的一半

  • So why not just tell yourself

    所以何不告訴自己

  • just sit there and focus for five minutes

    就坐著專注五分鐘吧!

  • Just five minutes

    只要五分鐘就好

  • Don’t think about finishing the whole paper

    別想著要完成整份報告

  • Just focus on writing a few lines of it

  • Don’t think about running for an hour

    別想著要跑一小時的步

  • Just focus on the first few steps

    只要邁出步伐

  • For five minutes

    跑五分鐘

  • if you just get yourself going

    開始動之後

  • everything else comes naturally

    一切就會順其自然的

  • So, don’t put too much thought onfinishing” a task

    所以別太執著於「完成」一件事

  • Just set a small goal

    訂一個小的目標

  • and work on it for 5 minutes

    專心做五分鐘

  • By doing this

    這麼一來

  • it'll feel easier to accomplish that

    完成它就不會變得那麼難

  • and feel less pressure while doing it

  • Second tip on helping you stop procrastination

  • is setting rewards for yourself

    是為自己設定獎勵機制

  • For example

    舉例來說

  • sometimes when I really don’t wanna work on something

    當我真的很不想做某件事時

  • I’ll tell myself

    我會告訴自己

  • Okay, Crown, write two paragraphs,"

    「好,滴妹,妳只要寫兩段」

  • "and then you can go eat that strawberry ice cream in the fridge.”

    「就可以去吃冰箱裡的草莓冰淇淋」

  • Here in this scenario

    在這個情況下

  • the reward I set for myself is strawberry ice cream

    我給自己的獎勵是草莓冰淇淋

  • but you can set whatever reward you want

    但你想設什麼獎勵都可以

  • And guess what

    你們知道嗎?

  • my mind is so set on the reward

    因為我腦中只想著這個獎勵

  • I actually try my best to write two paragraphs

    我就會盡力的在最短時間內

  • as soon as I possibly can

    寫好兩段
