-
Leafs before
-
using marijuana as an adult is not associated with mood and anxiety
-
disorders including depression and bipolar disorder according to a new
-
study published yesterday the research published in the journal of the American
-
Medical Association psychiatry
-
challenges some previous studies which claimed an association between marijuana
-
use and both depression and anxiety scientists examine the records of nearly
-
35,000 American adults who participated in the National epidemiologic survey on
-
alcohol and related conditions they looked at the prevalence of cannabis use
-
among the study's participants in 2001 and 2002 then checked on their rates of
-
mental health problems three years later 2004 and 2005 after controlling for
-
confounding factors such as socioeconomic differences family history
-
environment and past and present psyche I psychiatric disorders reach searchers
-
found that cannabis use was not associated with increased risk for
-
developing mood or anxiety disorders the lead author mark Olson of Columbia
-
University in New York City and his colleagues think that some prior
-
evidence of supposed links between marijuana and psychiatric disorders
-
could be due more to confounding factors that actual connection
-
the research is quote a strike against the hypothesis that cannabis use cause
-
its mood and anxiety disorders in quote according to Keith Humphreys a
-
specialist in addiction and mental health at Stanford University the study
-
did find an association between cannabis use and later substance use disorders
-
such as dependence on alcohol tobacco and other drugs people who use one
-
substance often use others as in the classic beer and a cigarette combo
-
according to Olufsen he said quote the findings concerning cannabis raised the
-
question
-
alcohol use also contributes to the risk of subsequent substance use disorders in
-
quote but he added that's beyond the scope of this current study the new
-
study adds to the previous research debunking the supposed connection
-
between marijuana and mental health disorders
-
much of the United States federal government's literature on cannabis
-
includes erroneous claims about links between marijuana and depression which
-
are downright inaccurate in view of the latest findings in its 2014 publication
-
the dangers and consequences of marijuana abuse the Federal Drug
-
Enforcement Administration mentions depression no fewer than four steam
-
times falsely claiming that cannabis is linked to depression among teens adults
-
and even dogs the tragedy is that these inaccurate documents are often used as
-
the basis of a federal drug policy which locks people out for possessing cannabis
-
a harmless plant and shuts off safe access to a medicine that could help
-
hundreds and thousands maybe millions of patients across the river in washington
-
stay in washington state's marijuana legalization law I 502 passed in 2012
-
didn't take long until folks figured out it's the most badly written legalization
-
law yet passed it so badly written in fact that under this report early
-
progressive legislation it's a felony to pass a joint your significant other ppl
-
Washington apparently didn't read the damn thing before they passed I 502
-
seemingly not make it past legalization and thinking how bad could that be it
-
now falls upon the hapless Washington legislature to fix the mess and that's
-
pretty damn scary to anyone who knows just how clueless it is and that body of
-
lawmakers when it comes to cannabis but they get points for trying at least when
-
it comes to the sharing issue Washington's house bill 2494 an act
-
relating to penalties for marijuana offenses on Monday past the Washington
-
house 73 224 and has been referred to committee in the Senate the bill would
-
finally allow adults 21 and older to share up to half an ounce of cannabis
-
flowers eight ounces of infused edibles and 36 ounces
-
infuse drink without being guilty of a felony we hope the senate passes over in
-
europe into in Germany the administration of fda-approved synthetic
-
THC your travel all marinol induces death and leukemia cell lines and offers
-
a low toxic their option for patients with cancer according to findings
-
published online in the journal BMC cancer German researchers evaluated the
-
impact to trap and all on leukemia cells investigators reported that synthetic
-
THC display quote remarkable antiproliferative as well as Pro app
-
atopic efficacy cause cell death in a broad spectrum of acute leukemia cell
-
lines in quote these findings provide a promising rationale for the clinical use
-
of cannabinoids in distinct entities of acute leukemia the authors concluded
-
preclinical data dating back over four decades it's consistently documented the
-
ability of various cannabinoids to halt the spread of cancer cells in laboratory
-
settings in 2011 the website for the USA National Cancer Institute cancer dot gov
-
publicly acknowledged the anticancer properties of cannabinoids posting quote
-
cannabinoids appear to kill tumor cells but do not affect their non transform
-
counterparts in may even protect them from cell death in the practice of
-
integrative oncology the healthcare provider may recommend medicinal
-
cannabis not only for symptom management but also for its possible direct
-
antitumor effect in quote language was removed from the website a little over a
-
week later because the federal interference however this study dropping

Lloyd leukemia with lymphoid differentiated certain patterns appears

in BMC cancer in Italy the recent use of cannabis is associated with improved

appears in cerebral vascular disease now up in Montreal Canada cannabinoids are

safe and effective in the treatment of chronic pain conditions according to a

recent review of clinical trials published online ahead of print in the

Canadian Journal of anesthesia Vesta Gators at the University of Montreal

Department of Anesthesiology evaluated the results of 26 clinical trials of
-
good or excellent quality involving 1364 subjects trials to assess the use of

various types of cannabinoid preparations including herbal cannabis

liquid in oral cannabis extracts and synthetic cannabinoid agents in pain
-
treatment the authors reported that cannabinoids were efficacious in
-
alleviating various types of pain including pain to dinner at the

musculoskeletal disorders fibromyalgia HIV and other chronic pain conditions
-
they concluded quote overall the recent literature supports the idea that
-
currently available cannabinoids are modestly effective analgesic that
-
provide a safe reasonable therapeutic option for managing chronic non-cancer
-
related pain and possibly cancer-related pain as well
-
quote their conclusion mimics that of 2015 systemic review published in the

journal new road immune pharmacology that reported quote cannabinoids are

demonstrate a modest analgesic effect and provide a reasonable treatment

option for treatment of chronic non-cancer pain in this study medical

cannabis considerations for the anesthesiologist in pain physician
-
appears in this month's edition of the Canadian Journal of anaesthesia a lot of
-
medical stories tonight now we're gonna go over to Jack credit is waiting in the
-
wings ready to play some use of marijuana but I call it cannabis and
-
it's much more than the tree of life
-
related songs every we welcomed viewers well from caspar
-
to say hey it is the 19th of February and if you're watching us on Friday the
-
19th you can call us 50 3288 4442 that's 50 3288 4442 were also streaming online
-
at Ustream dot tv if you're watching their you can type something a little
-
text box area and hopefully we get that translated to a little video screen here
-
so we can answer your questions on line as well have you been doing casper I am
-
excited we got a lot of good things going on at the time for him global
-
broadcasting networks are encouraged people to drop in and check it out we
-
got all kinds of wonderful music and of course great podcast for you to enjoy
-
download and share new poll been really busy the Oregon legislators also
-
considering a bill 1591 that would allow medical club to make numerous other
-
changes to the medical law last week our show was all clips from a rally back
-
Monday a week ago when I think there are some great speeches in last week's show
-
but there's going to be another rally at the state Capitol on the 23rd talking
-
pet which is a week from Tuesday talking about the arts Tuesday action talking
-
about the changes and also going in the lobby the legislature the marijuana law
-
panel joint session they like to you
-
humorously call it that's what it's really called the Joint Committee on
-
cannabis and measure 91 implementation they have their Tuesday hearings coming
-
up on Tuesday as well so it's good chance to get in there and tell the
-
legislators who in charge of drafting these laws what you think about their
-
changes how we need to protect medical marijuana and how we need to realize
-
that marijuana is not alcohol
-
you know it doesn't deserve to be treated like alcohol no one dies from
-
marijuana like they die from alcohol and the most dangerous thing about marijuana
-
are the laws against it so we are due to get down there right to state
-
legislators and support this if you're across the river in washington support
-
that senate bill that will allow candidates to be shared as well plus
-
alcohol on so many different levels is just damaging to your body . that's true
-
liver kidneys your eyes your brain cells were also your blood pressure even in
-
the number of days that you might stay on this planet whereas utilizing
-
Canada's helps you so many different ways including for most people probably
-
increasing longevity
-
well that was one of the things I learned from Jack here I thought was
-
really most amazing I didn't believe it when he first said he did he said that's
-
an outrageous thing to say people who smoked marijuana and cigarettes with an
-
average of seven years longer than people who just both cigarettes at
-
people who smoke marijuana and nothing else but a live longer than people who
-
smoke nothing and as jack pointed out because it cuts back on high blood
-
pressure diseases like stroke and heart attack and putting up with your
-
relatives in reading about congress stress strain I oxidant too so it helps
-
cut down on cancer like several stories we have the first part of a show right
-
you know we are taking your phone calls tonight we have a couple caller standing
-
by
-
so we're going to take all welcome the show caller
-
appreciate everything that you've done was like my question is I read an
-
article about treating blood might prove to you that I told him he could talk
-
about that are our Portland outdoor garden had an early infestation abroad
-
mice and help me figure out what they were
-
we treated them and knocked them out about two to three weeks into the flour
-
cycle but it cut our production of flowers by about 50% fortunately we
-
haven't figured it out you know we would have had any flowers at all but they're
-
awful little things they're microscopic you need a six-year power microscope to
-
be able to see them even so what I noticed at first were the the pistols
-
the little hairs on the the but flowers growing they were just brown instead and
-
that was really the first Sinai I had at the plus then there was this cutting of
-
the leaves where the Leafs didn't show the spot old thing that you get with it
-
with red spider mite which you can barely see with your eyes but these are
-
just microscopic little bugs awful you know i i intend to use it
-
activating early added compost to your situation
-
activate was not enough activate will will wipe out mold and mildew but it
-
didn't help with the found this other clean green another biological control
-
that that finally ended up are you human compost heap of that now just clean
-
green
-
ok yeah I think something like that happening need my phone was doing before
-
I thought so teachers how ya there you like I said you can't possibly see them
-
with your I yeah you can't even see them with the 20 power microscope
-
magnification you gotta go to a sixty power magnification if you want to see
-
him very well you need something even stronger than that will help
-
hey you're welcome hopefully you don't have a friend of mine in central organ
-
called them cannabis ebola and so I was at a loss as to what was causing this
-
this problem with our our flower crops here in Portland fortunately we didn't
-
see it in our other guards we have another caller standing by welcome to
-
show caller
-
at that line I've had two gardens infested with hippies lost all my but to
-
them I I have had a few thing is you know depends on how much you're growing
-
course but a pound of dried marijuana will wait twenty pounds when it's wet so
-
most of those hippies can carry way more than a hundred out and that's gonna be
-
maybe five pounds once it dries out but then they leave a trail of these you can
-
just follow our right to their door
-
you know what did you do you know we've actually seen a couple of to prison we
-
by calling police in having them arrested those sorts of pests can be
-
control yet if you have a question or comment for us tonight you call us at
-
that number there on your screen its 50 3288 4442 thats 5032 a 4442 we have a
-
film clip tonight that's very entertaining film are fairly controversy
-
scoundrel out there and he's got to show real time but last week on real time he
-
lit up a joint and smoked it on in real time audio real-time course you know I
-
don't want to send you guys away but HBO runs the live version of real-time here
-
on the West Coast right at eight o'clock but they repeated a lot and you can also
-
play it on demand if you want but the FCC came down on him very hard they find
-
him 1.7 million dollars yes 1.7 million dollars that I don't know many people
-
who can pay that kind of pain that much money for joy I guess you're right wow
-
well I hope it was a good day to we will have that clip here in just a second but
-
first we have a caller standing by so go ahead take that first you get a
-
kickstart programme for that I don't think so what the show caller
-
I call Paula my name is vivian I'm from Southeast Portland I'm getting ready to
-
go on a las vegas ladies weekend and I'm wondering haha yeah I'm wondering what
-
the laws are heading out of PDX into Las Vegas and I do have a medical marijuana
-
card as a caregiver they have reciprocity now in Las Vegas so your
-
medical marijuana card I'm not sure about a caregiver card that might not
-
work as well as a patient card so if you're a patient I would say yeah you
-
can go in there and you can actually buy cannabis on in Las Vegas now as a
-
another state patient and their setting up facilities and I think one of the
-
even opening up on the Las Vegas Strip but that's for a patient I'm gonna have
-
to further research to find out about caregivers I'll call you next Friday
-
well you know I can tell you that the Portland
