[I Dated Myself For A Week]

My name's Eli and I'm single.

我叫 Eli，我單身。

I'm like super single, I'm like drinking merlot, watching Parks and Rec on a Saturday night single, that's like how single I am.

我是個徹底的單身漢，我喜歡喝梅洛（葡萄酒），獨自在週六晚上看《公園與遊憩》， 這就是我單身的狀態。

I don't really go out alone by myself.

我不常自己一個人外出。

I mean, I think it's just really awkward.

I'm hoping throughout this week, I just learn to be more comfortable with myself and to be more comfortable being alone.

So we're gonna have to do a dinner by ourselves, go to the movies, and $50 to do a date activity.

This is the only time I'm unhappy that I'm having this much money for dinner.

I've only went out to eat by myself once.

I went to a restaurant.

我去到一家餐館。

I lasted all of like ten minutes.

我在裡面僅僅待了十分鐘。

I got the menu, I felt like everyone was staring at me, I had all this anxiety, and I just got the hell out of there.

我拿到菜單，感覺到大家都在盯著我，我感到十分焦慮，然後我立即就離開那個餐館了 。

So I'm hoping I can beat that anxiety this week.

所以我希望在這週我可以打敗這種焦慮。

Well, it is the date portion where I eat dinner by myself.

我自己吃的是約會餐的份量。

I love Benihana so I wanted to go there.

我喜歡 Benihana 所以我打算去這。

Currently alone, sitting by myself, doing blogs as an excuse to not look like a creepy idiot.

目前只有我一個人，獨自坐著，拿錄部落格做藉口，這樣看起來就不會像一個奇怪的笨蛋。

The wait staff's reactions were similar to me like buying condoms at a store, it's like,

服務員對我的反應就像是在商店買避孕套，店員的反應是：

"Oh, oh yeah, yeah, no whatever, whatever, just hide it, we'll just, here you go."

「喔，好喔，沒關係，我懂的，把它藏好來，給你。」

There was a family there, you know, naturally we started talking and got to know them.

有一家人也在那用餐，我們很自然地開始聊天，並且開始了解他們。

You know, it really forces you to socialize, kinda face those insecurities head on, which is kinda cool.

在這環境下你不得不進行社交，有點像是在直面不安全感，感覺挺酷的。

[The Movie]

I'm late to the movie. I'm late to the movie.

我看電影要遲到了。我要遲到了。

I was like a half hour late to the movie so I pretty much bailed on myself.

我遲到了將近半個小時，就像是我自己放自己的鴿子。

This is why I'm single.

這就是為什麼我還單身。

So now I am having a drink until the next showing.

現在我在和飲料等下一場電影。

Needing one seat, I could pretty much sit wherever I want.

因為我只需要佔一個座位，我可以想坐哪裏就坐哪裏。

While they're ringing me up, I had all these couples in the other lines like struggling to find like good seats at the same movie.

當其他人包圍著我的同時，那些在另外一邊排隊的情侶還得努力想找到好的位置，而且我們看的是同一場電影。

I lasted half hour by myself.

我獨自待了半個小時。

I think I'm doing pretty good.

我覺得自己表現不錯。

(I) ended up going into the movie theater and my seat was seat 20 and there was a girl sitting at 21,

我最終走進了電影院，我的座位號是 20 號，有個女生坐在 21 號，

and I assumed someone was gonna meet her, probably get popcorn for her or something.

我猜想她應該是在等其他人，可能那個人為她去買爆米花或者其他什麼東西了。

The movie starts and she's by herself and I was like, I have to talk to this girl afterwards.

電影開始了，她還是一個人，我就覺得我必須在電影結束後和她聊聊。

So I didn't sit next to you because I assumed someone was coming to sit next to you.

我沒坐在你旁邊是因為我猜想應該會有人要坐你旁邊這個位置。

No one was coming.

其實沒有人。

I think it's important to take time for yourself and be with your own self and be confident in going out by yourself.

我覺得給自己獨處的時間很重要，獨自一人並且很自信地自己一個人外出。

True, I need that cuz I feel like insecure or I feel like there's yeah, the world, the world sets it up,

對的，我需要這樣，因為我覺得缺乏安全感或者我感覺，這個世界，

- so if you're alone, you look sad or something. - Yeah, I find that stupid.

- 給大家一個「如果你獨自一個人，你看起來就很悲傷」的觀念。- 對，我覺得那樣很愚蠢。

This is really strange, I thought you were, you may like,

- hit me with your purse or run away by me asking. - No, people are afraid of like actual interaction with other people.

- 拿錢包打我然後跑開，因為我找你問話。- 不會的，現在的人真的很害怕和其他人進行實際的交流互動。

I think the fact that I went on a date alone and then I met someone is a success in itself.

我覺得我獨自跟自己約會並認識別人，本身就是一種成功。

I'm noticing being alone, I'm not worried about having to cater to somebody else.

我開始和自己相處，我不再覺得擔心要去迎合別人。

Like I can just kinda let my guard down and kinda like almost recharge in a way and I don't have to constantly worry about the other person.

就像是我可以卸下我的防禦，以某種方式重新充滿電力，並且我也不用一直擔心其他人。

So it's date number three and I've had a hard time trying to figure out what I like to do for a date.

So I think I'm gonna do something a little more chill.

I decided to do a picnic in my backyard with just me.

我決定在我的後院來一次野餐，就我一個人。

So I bought some wine and I got chicken wings, mac and cheese, balled out.

我拿了些葡萄酒和雞翅，美式焗烤起司通心麵。

Yes, yes, this is a beautiful thing.

I'm a simple guy, all I want is mac and cheese.

我是個很簡單的人，有美式焗烤起司通心麵我就滿足了。

And I didn't have a blanket, so I had an inflatable mattress and I just threw it in my backyard.

我沒有拿毯子，但我有一個充氣的墊子，我就把它扔到我的後院。

As far as the third date goes, I don't think I've ever done anything like that with myself.

目前到第三次約會來看，我所做的都是我之前從沒有自己一個人做過的。

Might be the wine talking, but I don't know, I really needed this.

可能是因為酒精的關係，但我覺得我確實很需要這樣做。

It's really therapeutic, it's almost like kinda like meditation.

這很治癒，就很像是在冥想。

Out of all the dates, I think that was probably the best one.

在所有這樣約會中，這應該是最棒的一次，

A, because I love chicken wings and two, I was kinda really able just to be in my own head.

My week was great.

I feel like when I go to these things, when you're with someone, you're just kinda catering to that person and giving your energy to them.

It was almost like a meditation just to kinda cater to me.

但這就像是冥想，只用迎合自己的喜好。

When you're alone, you're willing to give your energy within yourself and kinda be open to the world around you.

當你獨自一人時，你可以給你自己能量，並且對這個世界敞開胸懷。

This gave me confidence to be by myself.

這給了我自信讓我獨處。

If you resent the idea of going out alone, hey, I get it, but all you really need is like a glass of wine and a nice book.

如果你對於獨自外出這個想法反感，我能理解，但是你確實會很需要一杯葡萄酒和一本好書。

And you only look smart and you only look that much sexier.

你看起來會很聰明看起來更加性感。
