  • Who are you? Where are you? and what do you do? "Hello thank you for coming I'm

  • Jason Basmajian, I'm the Creative director at Gieves & Hawkes

  • number one Savile Row, we are at the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair London to

  • show I spring collection for press day.

  • Ive deliberately put you next to this suit, the Tartan, it

  • is the BIG trend now and

  • in the future, Men Style followers having a little bit of a meltdown in a positive

  • way

  • They are asking, How do you put it together? Where would you were it?

  • but I think I think what's what's nice for us using plaids traditional plaids

  • & checks in a very fresh modern way, so sort of

  • obviously being a Savile Row Brand, we're extremely inspired by traditional

  • menswear patterns whether its a Tartan or Check

  • I'm I think for us but this look in particular its been fun to show it in new

  • colorways

  • very sort of, rich navy in brown and to pair with the Fine gauge polo shirt

  • underneath in a very modern way, sort of making quite traditional with a

  • shirt and tie

  • we really loved it with the trash and just throw down with a nice polo

  • and you go I like this to particularly because the past with upgrade also just

  • t-shirt

  • um or the jacket with a grey with dark jeans and Bermudas

  • so you can really... its quite versatile We're coming coming into the festive season

  • What should a guy sort of be wearing in December

  • especially evening we get a lot of questions you know...

  • the dinner suit, the Duck suit I'm I think

  • I think you know work for evening wear especially with party season, festive

  • season coming up

  • it's nice to sorta mix it up a little bit have some fun with it whether thats

  • using

  • they be a velvet or linen embroidered slippers instead of a formal tuck shoe, whether

  • it's adding a nice soft detail

  • bring in a little color in the sock um maybe a choice of neckwear where there was a

  • little bit less expected

  • so, being a bowtie or a tie thats maybe a little bit bolder in color

  • I'll is a nice way to do that I particularly love a white rosso

  • evening jacket its quite elegant you know part of what we're going through with Gieves & Hawkes is

  • this idea of Old School Revisited and bring some of those coates

  • traditional beautiful Savile Row coats forward and to a much more modern

  • relevance style

  • but I think also it's nice for evening is also to not be afraid to breaking it up

  • wearing a jacket with dark jeans and a t-shirt on a more casual occasion

  • putting it with a beautiful white shirt for very elegant occasion

  • or in between we've done some looks where we've done like a dark

  • linen shirt with the navy silk dinner jacket

  • and again tie with the red stripe bow tie with the white dinner jacket

  • they're just keeping it very simple and elegant and chic but having a little fun

  • with it. I think it's a great way for a guy to really express his personal style

  • Along with our target market,

  • eighteen to twenty four, they love Savile Row

  • But they are literally afraid of it.

  • we'll be overwhelmed, don't want to walk in, we don't want to... "you know well I think"

  • I think also what's been what's been great is to see I lot younger guys

  • really taking an interest in how they dress their parents and

  • but what's exciting is to see how young guys are looking at tailoring

  • um as and as a trend so used to be about you know trainers in jeans and now

  • it sorta

  • looking at tailoring and everybody wants to look much smarter and

  • doing that in their own interpretation ways quite exciting

  • so I think down to your audience I would say you know, well done good for you and

  • you're making it your own is really important you know you should

  • not be intimidated by Savile Row or Savile Row style

  • its wear menswear started its the base is a beautiful British tailoring

  • and we have a very young demographic in the store as well we have all kinds of

  • clients that come in,

  • and you know our job is to sorta have have a collection that works for

  • everybody but

  • you know I definitely it looks great whether you wear your jacket with the

  • suit and tie

  • , shirt tie with your jacket jeans a t-shirt

  • on it's just nice to see young young people really taking an interest. Young man

  • taking images and how they dress

  • One of the questions, they ask me that the younger ones you know,

  • I can just go in to a high street store

  • Damn, its not bespoke, is kinda what they are saying. Tailoring you know

  • Whats the message to them, whats the difference

  • for Men Style Fashion, we want to educate them "sure" make a big difference

  • no I think that's a great i think is a great question you certainly the high

  • street brands are doing a great job reinterpreting

  • men's trained in style down to level I think it's obviously

  • my advice on that is you know just buy the best you can afford

  • and I think it's all about the mix so you know if you are investing in you

  • know beautiful well-cut well-made suits,

  • by the best you can afford on those kind of things and maybe things that are more

  • fun

  • he might where more seasonally or maybe where for one season

  • then you can have a little more fun and maybe invest lasted lesson and I think

  • it's all about today mixing it up and I mean that's what makes it kinda creative

  • and interesting

  • anyone going to just one store spent a lot of money

  • I think you know developing your own personal style in doing that creatively

  • regardless of price is a challenge it also

  • I something that's exciting fun to do

  • another common question on twitter recently for us was

  • I'm businessman and I'm a lawyer,

  • I have been showing them what was happening at London

  • Collection Men and what happened at Lords Cricket Ground

  • Who can wear that! Wonderful tip for these Lawyers and businessmen

  • yet they're still sitting very classic, yes I think why they obviously there's something whats

  • deemed

  • business appropriate right so if you're in a very traditional setting and your

  • peers and colleagues are just one way

  • you certainly don't want to stand out I think for those kinda men what I would

  • say is too kinda

  • looking great feeling great is a lot about your confidence and I would take

  • to these men I would say pay a lot of attention to the quality of your

  • suit

  • and the cut of your suit you know spend the extra time and money to make sure

  • your suit is beautifully fit

  • to your body but the shape is right.

  • neither too tight or too baggy and I think you know that

  • any man can look extremely elegant with just a few extra attention to the

  • details

  • and I would buy very good fabric I would buy the best qualities. These are professional

  • people

  • buy better, but less and really make sure it fits you well and then find your

  • style if you have to wear a white shirt for work

  • maybe it's just about the way for your pocket square maybe it's just your sock

  • detail

  • which is how you can bring a small detail and personality into your look

  • without feeling like a cookie cutter at the same time not standing out too much

  • that you feel uncomfortable in a business situation

  • Another tweet that comes at us is young graduates

  • just come out and

  • They're just clueless and

  • great yeah I think I think you know you coming out of school weather depending on

  • what field you going into whether you need to have that sorta

  • that dreaded interview suit or jacket I you know I think

  • for me if you're not quite sure you're doing something that you wanna look

  • smart but you need to be dressed but you may not want to a classic

  • bluer or grey suit a great blazer is always

  • the hair looks appropriate you can put it with anything you can dress it up you

  • can dress it down

  • you can wear it with the tie and a white shirt with dress trousers and it can work

  • almost like a suit

  • on the day obviously coming out of school when I would say to

  • to the young graduate is paying attention to your grooming, your nails, the

  • way when you speak to people

  • because men styles not just about what you just said how you carry and present

  • yourself so to make a good impression think about you know that your

  • interviewer

  • speaking to them looking at them in the eye taking care of your shoes being

  • polish your nails being clean

  • if there's things that seem obvious but their little details that people do

  • notice when they meet you you do only get one chance to make a first

  • impression

  • and why you may not be able to go out and spend two thousand five hundred

  • pounds on a suit or want to

  • a lot of other things that you can do that don't cost anything other than a

  • little time and attention

  • Brilliant, Lets talk about the Groom-to-be

  • I went to a big conference

  • still renting yeah tax management

  • may honestly, its a tragedy,

  • its interesting that you ask this question because Gieves & hawkes is

  • definitely a go to destination for a special occasion we do everything from

  • formal dinner suits to morning coats and white tie

  • being the most formal and a scale we also do quite like a military uniform

  • we do make a lot of bespoke military uniform, very high ranking officers

  • so we have this tradition a formal dress I'm my advice is

  • Hill it is specially with bride and groom I'm

  • a bride doesn't think about spending a lot of money and time

  • on her gown and i really think why shouldn't the groom have that same

  • consideration

  • to go spend a 1500 2000 1000 whatever you can afford on a beautiful tuxedo

  • you wear that for life that something that you invest thats

  • investment and the other things that I don't see as expensive I see them as

  • costly because they want an investment but there's value to that

  • and you're gonna feel great owning your own suit

  • and you in that way every time you wear their you're gonna have a great memory of that and

  • I

  • and you'll be able to use it I think also you could take your dinner suit

  • jacket and mix it up with the white t-shirt a white shirt open collar

  • dark jeans and loafers for a for a fancy dress party and

  • great you can get some wear out of it. we've seen a lot of men actually come

  • back to us

  • and invest in those looks especially in England we have a lot on

  • man who follow the social season Ascot whether it's

  • polo and they come to us they used to rent their morning suits

  • and they are coming in investing in suits fitted for them properly

  • its cared for by us, its tailored and they can bring it in for alterations

  • if they're you know lose or gain a little weight with the years

  • and that make sure that they're always looking turn downs mine

  • you know not be to not be intimidated by Savile Row a man's where you know it's

  • you know who feel very comfortable walking into high street store

  • whether you wanna go in and spend a little bit, it's just good to look around and see

  • what's happening from some other

  • more tailored brands the man's actually went to get ideas and again

  • developing your personal style is not something that you need to do in a day

  • its sort of as you go build your style, your taste will change

  • your needs will change

  • and as you grow things will change I think it's

  • am just finding things that work for you but again my advice would always be

  • buy the best that you can spend money other things that

  • are important spend less money other things that are maybe one-time where's

  • our seasonal where's

  • um and just always paying attention to your accessories and your grooming and

  • all other things that will

  • turnout a nation for a very good looking and smiling young ...

  • launch use recently presents a collection that we're doing here we're

  • making in England

  • there was to do a shoe thats bench-made which means is handcrafted in England

  • a lot of time to making shoes we use traditional British methods on a British

  • last so the difference being

  • after the British shoes is a little bit sturdier in the construction

  • slightly different shape there may be some will be known as italian

  • shoes

  • our shoes work very well with the connection and the colors

  • we work with a very traditional family-owned manufacturer in the

  • northern England which is a traditional area

  • for shoe making. I think with shoes again

  • my advice would be to buy the best you can and if you have to buy one pair

  • maybe by one nice lace up brogue

  • in dark brown which would work with black or brown or grey

  • if you need to or black and then you can really wear

  • I keep it simple if it's if you dont have a large wardrobe, I'd keep it quite

  • simple and

  • and good quality and take care of them but ... them how the polished

  • regularly

  • and that's just as much of the not just the aesthetic of your shoe but the care

  • of it

  • they'll really they should last you for a long time

  • I'm I work with married men

  • common thing they say to me is being with my wife

  • or my husband for a long time... they should love me for who I am

  • you know why do I need to make an effort after 10 years

  • I i think thats I think it's that starts with how you feel about yourself

  • and I think it's very important and the way you perceive yourself and love

  • yourself it's not

  • about vanity it's about actually feeling the best you can which will give you

  • confidence

  • and I think it's about finding who you are and how you wanna feel

  • for yourself and then for your partner down but its its

  • it's nice to make that effort and it also out of

  • love and respect of course we love the person that we're with

  • for who they are but you know a little surprise a little bit excitement keeps

  • things fresh

  • a little bit of style and you may discover something about yourself

  • and and feel really good about yourself in something that you're doing to maybe

  • please your partner

  • may actually and into pleasing yourself more is probably really healthy for the

  • relationship

  • I'm an article that I wrote and I absolutely adored was

  • What do you wear on a first date?

  • yeah well I guess it depends on you know the kind of impression you wanna make

  • I think what's really important is that you just for who you really are

  • so if you're if you're boots t-shirt and jeans Guyana leather jacket

  • and you show up in a three-piece suit and that's not you

  • and then you know by day three or four it's now you are you never gonna feel

  • comfortable

  • and that's not who you are you probably deceiving yourself in the person

  • you know I think on a first date what's most important is just really be

  • yourself

  • the natural it'll take a lot of pressure off of you as well and a lot of pressure off

  • the day and hopefully you get to know the person you're with them

  • see whether that's a person you wanna spend more time with and to date too

  • my advice isn't so much about what to wear but maybe how you wear and that

  • you choose something that really is

  • you. "Brilliant"

Who are you? Where are you? and what do you do? "Hello thank you for coming I'm
