Let's suppose I do this often in vocational guidance of students

假設我常常對職業訓練導向的學生問這些問題

They come to me and say well,

他們會過來和我說

Ah,

痾

we're getting out of college and we have the faintest idea of what we want to do

我們將會進入大學，然後我們對於想做的是有小小的一些想法

So I always ask the question,

因此，我總是問這個問題

What would you like to do if money were no object?

如果賺錢不是你的目的的話，你會想做些什麼？

How would you really enjoy spending your life?

你會如何享受、揮灑你的人生？

Well, it's so amazing as a result of our kind of educational system,

由於我們的教育制度，讓我們感到非常的驚訝

crowds of students say well,

一大群的學生們說

we'd like to be painters, we'd like to be poets, we'd like to writers,

我們想當畫家、詩人和作家

but as everybody knows you can't earn any money that way

但當大家知道，他們不能夠透過這個來賺錢後

One other person says I'd like to live an out of doors life and ride horses

有人就說：我想要一個在戶外並且享受騎馬的生活

and said he wanted to teach in a riding school

也說他想要再騎乘馬匹的學校教導

Ahhh! Let's go through with it, what do you want to do?

讓我們來重新想過這個問題，你想要做什麼？

When we finally got down to something which the individual says he really wants to do,

當我們終於開始認真專注於某件有人說想做的事情

I'll say to him, you do that!

我會和他說：你去吧！

and forget the money...

還有，忘記金錢的目的...

because if you say that getting the money is the most important thing

因為，如果你說賺到錢是最重要的事情

you'll spend your life...

你將會揮霍你的生命...

completely wasting your time.

完全在浪費你的時間

You'll be doing things you don't like doing in order to go on living that is do go on doing things you don't like doing...

你會為了繼續現在的生活，而持續去做你不喜歡的事情

which is stupid!

這是多麼笨的事情！

it's better to have a short life,

擁有較短

that is full of what you like doing

且富有你想做的事情的人生

than a long life spent in a miserable way.

比有較長的壽命，卻都生活於悲慘的方式還要來的好

And after all, if you do really like what you're doing,

畢竟，如果你真的很喜歡你正在做的事情

it doesn't matter what it is

不論那是什麼

you can eventually turn it... err... you could eventually become a master of it

最終，你都可以翻轉它...痾...你將會變成那方面的專家

The only way to become a master of something is to be really with it

成為某件事情的專家的唯一辦法是：真的去喜歡並做好它

and then you would be able to get a good feel for whatever it is

然後，你就可以從它得到成就感

so don't worry too much that's ... everybody is...

所以，不用太過於擔心。每個人都是...

somebody is interested in everything

有些人對所有事物都感到有興趣

and anything you can be interested in, you'll find others as well

任何你覺得有興趣的事物，你都可以發現有人和你一樣

but it's absolutely stupid to spend your time doing things you don't like

但你將時間花費於你不喜歡的事物上，是很笨拙的

in order to go on spending things you don't like and doing things you don't like

為了在你不喜歡的事物上面花費時間，和做些你不喜歡的事情

and to teach your children to follow the same track

再去教導你的小孩跟隨著相同的形式走

see what we are doing...

看看我們在做什麼...

is we're bringing up children and educating them

我們是在教導小孩

to live the same sort of lives we are living

和我們過著同樣的生活嗎？

in order that they may justify themselves and satisfaction in life by bringing up their children

為了讓他們證明自己，並藉由帶大他們自己的小孩來得到生活上的滿足

to bring up their children to do the same thing

將他們的小孩來完成相同的事情

so it's all in retro-no-vomit it never gets there!

就在這無限的循環中，永遠無法達成！

and so, therefore it's so important to consider this question,

因此，思考這個問題是很重要的

what do I desire?

我想要的是什麼？
