This is VICE Media, somebody's gotta get pregnant. We go to different ethnic neighborhoods and we make babies. That's what we do. >> You have a cute baby. Cute baby. >> Dude, I mean, that could be a baby, I can see this baby. >> Ten points. There we go. [MUSIC]. >> I'm getting mine, mine, mine. [MUSIC] >> Yeah I was mad excited about Persian LA, came out here, thought I'd like, run into the Iron Sheik at the grocery store, cop some Plutonium on the corner, catch a afternoon Saffron rainstorm. [MUSIC] Wassup? All right. So when you lost in Persian LA, head to the fucking rug store, find your neighborhood friendly Persian. >> Right. >> This is Nima Nabavi, world famous. >> Pleasure. >> Thank you for- >> No doubt, man. >> Showing us around this neighborhood. [MUSIC] So what, what is it that makes Persian rugs so special? >> The main thing is a lot of them take like, it would be like ten years to make. >> One rug? >> Yeah one rug and. >> So this was a dude's decade. How much is like one of these? >> Honestly if this was under 25 grand I'd be kinda surprised. >> 20, this is a car. >> We'll ask them but I'm pretty sure. >> This is, this is college. >> Yeah, yeah this is a big >> Wow. >> Deal. >> I'm gonna get on this rug game because you know a lot of people got the sneaker game. The cars. >> Rug game where it's at, man. >> Wanna be futuristic with your pimp game. >> Lebron's right there. >> Persian rugs. Are those peacocks or phoenix? What, what bird is, what is, like, the bird? >> They're big cocks, cuz that's what we're known for. >> Big, oh wow. Pause. So this is like a car dealership. Like, somebody sells a rug. Like, a $25,000 rug, that's their month. >> Yeah. >> They don't got no doughnuts in here though, huh? No doughnuts and coffee? >> No. I got a baklava and tea. What is the food in this neighborhood though? I mean generally the stereotype is kabob and rice and all that, which is dope. >> I seen it! >> But I wanted to take you to a spot that it's a sandwich spot. [MUSIC]. This area is officially Persian Square. And they picked this spot because the sandwich shop we're about to go to is the first Persian establishment in the area, so- >> Nice, history. Been around since 74. >> So let's go peep it out. [MUSIC]. >> They got the brain out on front street. You see this? What kind of brain is that, cow brain? >> sheep. I think you should hit the brain. I'm gonna get the tongue. >> Try a little bit, though. >> I'll try a little bit. [MUSIC] >> This here's the brain. >> That's the brains, and two tongues. >> Yes. >> What do you think? >> Delicious, tender. >> Yeah, right? This tongue. >> Yeah. >> Feels like I'm at Second Avenue deli, man. Like really, really juicy. >> Legit, right. >> Yeah, and the pickles, these types of pickles that you get in like Lebanese food. >> Yeah. >> Persian food. It's like the tarter sour, funky, thin pickles. [MUSIC] >> You know, it's almost time for the brain, right? >> You first, dude. You know what brain looks like fo me? It's like mammal oysters. I'm not even gonna front. I do it for y'all. >> You'll only be eating brain sandwiches for the rest of your life, watch. >> Here's the thing. This is it with all the gag foods. I have no problem eating it. >> Yeah. >> Sweetbreads, whatever. My thing is just, it's never like. Amazing. >> That's what I was saying. >> It's never eventful. I'm like this is all hyping. That's why I don't bug out over like freak food like. >> Well a lot of it too is like, a lot of these cultures it was really like. >> They enjoy it. >> Well it's not even that. It's like, hell we killed a sheep and we eat every part of it. Like my dad will come here and like swear like he loves it. >> What do you got next? >> Yo, next up we're gonna go have some real Persian ice cream man. >> Dope. >> Some real, real shit you've never tried. >> Persian ice cream shop, I'm ready kid. >> All right man. [MUSIC] >> Let's see this saffron. I'm getting saffron. I already decided. >> Did you? >> Yeah. I will try this frozen high fiber sorbet. >> There you go. >> Can I do it with like the flavors, like I put it together or no? >> Oh yeah, that's how it comes is this way. >> Oh good. Are a lot of persons lactose intolerant? >> Yeah. >> Cuz that is a epidemic in my neighborhood. The milk farters, a lot of milk farters in China town. Thank you. >> Well you're gonna grow a unibrow right now. >> I think my dick just got bigger. This is like y'alls shark's fin. >> Yeah. >> You know what I mean? Score 1,500 grandpa will take you out for some saffron ice cream. >> There you go. >> Yo so. We ate sandwiches, we looked at rugs- >> True. >> We ate ice cream. >> Yes sir. >> How would a Persian end this? >> Definitely gotta have some hookah. >> Okay. >> So there's a spot up here. >> Yeah. >> It's called Habibi Cafe, we should go up there- >> Yes. >> Meet some homies and. >> Yes. >> Get some smoke in. >> Okay. [MUSIC] Eddie, nice to meet you. >> Edgar >> Eddie, Ed, you're Edgar, you're Edgar, amazing, sexy. It's nice, I like this, I like this. [MUSIC] Where're you from? We're all Persian. >> All Persian. >> I'm glad y'all came cuz otherwise these Vice viewers would have thought all Persians were dudes with unibrows, right? >> Yes. >> Pretty much. [MUSIC] Oh, wow. He did put milk in the base. >> I told you. >> Damn. >> Oh, it's an apple. >> I did that in highschool when I couldn't buy pipes. We were like, what do Persians do? And he was like meet me at the rug shop, then we're gonna go get sandwiches. Then we're gonna eat ice cream, I was like dude. >> Okay those are three things that I've never done in my life. >> The thing everyone wants. >> We went to Persian LA, it's like a good three to five blocks. But it's really like a book store, a music store, an ice cream shop, a rug shop, a sandwich shop. You know a collection of business is not necessarily a community. You need the people in there you need like the vigor, you need the energy you need the sounds. You need the flavors. [MUSIC] You wish that this culture would plant their flag a little deeper in LA. [MUSIC] >> Whoo-hoo! >> Whoo! >> Next up on Fresh Off the Globe. >> This fucking salsa is so spicy, man. [LAUGH]. Munchies >> Mm. >> Hell, yeah. >> That chili sauce is some fuego, I'm not doing that. My ass would be on fire by like 7 p.m. Oh, my God. [MUSIC]
