But in addition to the loss of human lives-- UNESCO says all six of the country's World Heritage sites have been badly damaged or destroyed by the conflict. According to an Associated Press report... some sites have been damaged by fighting and shelling,... while others have been intentionally blown up or pillaged. The report said Aleppo in the north, the ancient town of Bosra in the south, and the Palmyra archaeological site -- are all damaged or destroyed. Another damaged site, it says: the Crac des Chevaliers -- one of the most important preserved medieval castles in the world. There may be some hope for some of these sites Bruce... as UNESCO plans to launch a new task force?
