The way I talk

我讲话的方式

is a little strange.

有一点特别

No speaker in the world

世界上没有演说家

talks like me

像我这样

technically it is wrong;

技术上是错的

it takes almost double the time!

它需要用几乎双倍的时间

But those speakers

但是那些演说家

have a different purpose

有着不同的目的

my purpose is absolutely

而我的用意完全

different from theirs.

与他们不同

They speak because

他们演讲是因为

they are prepared for it;

他们为它做了准备

they are simply repeating

他们只是在重复

something that they have rehearsed.

那些他们已经排练过的东西

Secondly,

其次，

they are speaking

他们的演讲

to impose a certain ideology,

为了给你们植入

a certain idea on you.

某种观念 某種想法

Thirdly, to them speaking is an art

第三，对他们而言演讲是一种艺术

they go on refining it.

As far as I am concerned,

I am not

what they call

a speaker or an orator.

It is not an art to me or a technique;

technically I go on becoming worse every day!

But our purposes are totally different.

I don't want

to impress you

为了操纵你

in order to manipulate you.

而打动你

I don't speak for

我不为通过说服你

any goal

来达成

to be achieved through convincing you.

任何目标而演说

I don't speak to convert you into a Christian, into a Hindu or a Mohammedan,

我不为了让你成为基督教徒，印度教徒，伊斯兰教徒

into a theist or an atheist

或者有神论者，无神论者而演说

these are not my concerns.

这些都不是我所关心的

My speaking is really

我的演讲其实

one of my devices for meditation.

是我为静心所做的设计之一

Speaking has never been used this way:

演讲从未被如此运用过

I speak not to give you a message,

我演讲不是为了给你一个讯息

but to stop your mind functioning.

而是用来停止你头脑的运作

I speak

我的演讲

nothing

从未

prepared

预先准备

I don't know myself

我自己不知道

what is going to be the next word;

下一个字会是什么

hence I never commit any mistake.

因此我从未犯错

One commits a mistake if one is prepared.

如果事先做了准备才会犯错

I never forget anything, because one forgets

我从未忘记什么，因为如果是曾经

if one has been remembering it.

记得的才会忘记

So I speak with a freedom

所以我畅所欲言

that perhaps nobody has ever spoken with.

也许从沒有人这么说过

I am not concerned whether I am consistent,

我也不关心自己是否前后一致

because that is not the purpose.

因为这不是我的目的

A man who wants to convince you

一个想要通过演说说服你

and manipulate you through

和操纵你

his speaking

的人

has to be consistent,

必须前后一致

has to be logical,

必须合乎逻辑

has to be rational,

必须是合理的

to overpower your reason.

才能压倒你的推理

He wants to dominate through words.

他想通过语言来支配你

but I will fail his examinations.

and to train orators. I will fail on all counts.

First, I have no motivation to convert you;

I have no desire anywhere to impress you.

And I don't remember what I have said yesterday,

bother about being consistent -- that is too much worry.

I can easily contradict myself,

My purpose is so unique

just to create

silent gaps.

The words are not important

so I can say anything contradictory,

所以我可以说任何自相

anything absurd, anything unrelated,

矛盾的，荒谬的，互不沾边的话

because my purpose is

因为我的目的只是

just to create gaps.

创造空隙

The words are secondary;

话语是其次的

the silences between those words are primary.

话语之间的宁静才是主要的

This is simply a device to give you a glimpse of meditation.

它只是一个让你瞥见静心的手段

And once you know that it is possible for you,

一旦你领悟到你是有可能的

you have traveled far

你就已经朝你自己

in the direction of your own being.

本性的方向走了很远

Most of the people in the world don't think that it is possible for mind to be silent.

世界上绝大多数的人都不认为让意念宁静下来是有可能的

Because they don't think it is possible, they don't try.

因为他们不认为这是有可能的，所以他们不试

How to give people a taste of meditation

如何让人们品尝到静心

was my

basic reason to speak,

演讲的基本原因

so I can go on speaking eternally

it does not matter what I am saying.

All that matters

is that I give you a few chances

我给你们一些机会

to be silent,

which you find difficult

这是你自己一开始

on your own in the beginning.

I cannot force you to be silent,

我不能强迫你宁静

but I can create a device in which

spontaneously you are bound to be silent.

势必不由自主地进入宁静

I am speaking, and in the middle of a sentence,

我在讲话，在一个句子当中，

when you were expecting another word to follow,

当你在期待 接着另句话时

nothing follows

卻沒下文

but a silent gap.

而只是一片宁静

And your mind

而你的头脑

was looking to listen,

在想要听

and waiting for something to follow,

而等待接着的某些话

and does not want to miss it

并且不想要错过

naturally it becomes silent.

自然它就会静下来

What can the poor mind do?

可怜的头脑还能怎样?

If it was well known

如果都知道

at what points I will be silent,

在哪个点我会静下来

if it was declared to you

如果事先告知你

that on such and such points I will be silent,

我会在这样和那样的点上静下来

then you could manage to think

那么你就会去思考

you would not be silent.

你就静不下来

Then you know: "This is the point where he is going to be silent,

于是你知道:"这就是他会静下来的点

now I can have a little

现在我能跟自己

chit-chat with myself."

闲聊一下子"

But because it comes absolutely

但是因为我的宁静来得

suddenly....

絕对突然...

I don't know myself why at certain points I stop.

我自己并不知道为什么会在那个点上停下来

Anything like this,

诸如此类的事

in any orator in the world,

世上任何演说家

will be condemned,

都会被谴责

because an orator

因为一个

stopping again and again

演说者一再的停顿下来

means he is

意味着

not well prepared,

他没有做好准备

he has not done the homework.

他没有做好功课

It means that his memory

也意味着他的记性

is not reliable,

不可靠

means

意味着

that he cannot find, sometimes,

有的时候,他找不到

what word to use.

该用什么字眼

But because

但是因为

it is not

并不是

oratory,

演讲

I am not concerned about the people who will be condemning me

我不在意那些会谴责我的人

I am concerned with you.

我在意的是你们

And it is not only here,

而且不只在这儿

but far away...

还有远在

anywhere in the world

世界各地

where people will be listening to the video

聆听视频 或

or to the audio,

电台的人们

they will come to the same

他们也会有同样的

silence.

宁静

My success is not

我的成功不是

to convince you,

去说服你

my success is to give you a real taste

我的成功是给你一个真正的品味

so that you can become confident

使得你能充満自信

that meditation is not a fiction,

靜心并不是个幻想

that the state of no-mind

无念的状态

is not just a

不只是个

philosophical idea,

哲学观点

that it is a reality;

那是个事实

that you are capable of it, and that it does not need any special

所以你可以做到,而且不需要任何特别的

qualifications
