  • Today's phrase is: holla.

  • Now, holla can be used in so many ways.

  • This is such a commonly used word.

  • Now, holla is the shortened form of holler, basically, holler meaning to scream and shout out loud.

  • But, holla also means holla at me, call me, talk to me, speak to me.

  • You know what I'm saying? It's a very simple conversational word that you will hear day to day.

  • It is a common word used around Black people and probably around other people as well, but brothers use it a lot more.

  • Anyway, now, to the conversational situation.

  • Yo! Check out that betty in the Black Jean!!!

  • Shit! I know that girl. Give me a minute while I holla at her.

  • When you get to dat area, remember to holla at my boy, hell hook you up.

  • Solid that, I’ll get with him.

  • Understand?

  • Now, these situations here may take a little time to explain, but not much.

  • It's very, very simple.

  • First situation, the friend says, "Yo! Check out that little sweet thang in the black jeans."

  • And my man's like, "Shit!" He already knows that girl, so he told his boy to say, "Hey, give me a minute to holla at her."

  • It just means, give me a minute to talk to her.

  • Holla = talk to her. Very simple.

  • Second situation, he's telling a friend, "Yo, when you get to that area, over in this location, no matter where it is,

  • my friend's in that location as well. So, you may not know it...

  • you may not know this area very well, but my friend will take care of you.

  • So, he can meet you, pick you up, take care of you and get you around to the places you were looking for."

  • So, the other guy said, "Well, thank you very much," basically. "Solid that, I'll get with him."

  • Simple.

  • You got it? Good.
