They begin their life as caterpillars. Whe they're fully grown, they spin themselves into chrysalis. - [Child] After some time passes, it turns into a butterfly. Wow. Butterflies only eat liquids like flower nectar and sap from flowers on trees. They also drink juice from fruits. Butterflies wings have bright colors and patterns that help them do lots of things like camouflage. This butterfly looks just like the tree. Wow. B is for butterflies. Maybe I could just stand there like this and pretend to be the orange flower. How do you plant the flower? - You use seeds and water and sunshine. - That's so much stuff a flower needs. I thought you just put it there and it just grows. - That's, no. - That's not true? - No. - [Murray] So what do I do first when I'm gonna plant? - [Teacher] We wanna rake off any debris, any bits of old plant or petals. We want to make sure the soil looks nice and clean. - So here's what we're gonna do when we plant, we're gonna use this. This is a trial. Does everybody know what a trial is? - [Child] Shovel. - [Teacher] It is. It's like a, a really small shovel. Now they're, they're not very big but they are kind of heavy. So you do have to be careful, okay? Just like sugar on a spoon. Put it right next to the hole. Perfect. - Kareem, I'm really good at digging. Watch my digging moves, you ready? - Okay. Uh, ah, uh, ah, uh, ah. You think I'm gonna be good at digging? - Yes. (upbeat music) - Once we get the plants in the ground. But what else do they need? - Um, uh company? - Uh no. Well, they do like company. - A nice song perhaps? - They need water. - [Teacher] Hit that root. All of those roots nice and wet. - Hit it Ovejita. - Mmhmm (water shushing) - [Teacher] Just press lightly. You got it. - Wow, there's so much stuff that comes out of a garden. - He, he, he. (Grover giggles) And today I am going to tell you about the things that all cute little plants need to grow and stay healthy. Mm. Oh. First they need soil and sunlight. Which this plant over here already has plenty of. But a plant also needs to eat. Okay little planty, I hope you are hungry because, oh have I got the treat for you? Something that all little plants love. And that is a big healthful salad, with radishes and tomatoes. Ugh. And just a hint of oregano. Bon petite. Do not wait for me, I have already eaten. (plant crinkling) What? Um It appears this plant is not of the salad eating variety. But fear not. I know what else a little plant needs to grow big and healthy. A pizza. Oh, Oh. Piping hot, fresh outta the oven. What? Oh dear. This little plant does not seem to be a pizza eater either. But being the resourceful gardening monster that I am. I know just the thing that no little plant can resist. (Grover scurrying) Hungarian goulash. Ha ha. Oh, enjoy. Do not resist. Give in to temptation. (plant crinkling) Or not. Oy gevalt. I cannot believe this little plant is one finicky eater. And how will it ever grow to be big and healthy and green and, and now it is raining. Ah. The report did not forecast rain today, but look ah the little plant is looking nice and healthy again. Oh, I guess all it needed was a little water. Eh, eh, eh. And I guess what they really need right now is an umbrella. Ah. Oh, um, excuse me. Do you mind?
