  • Hey guys, I'm Alex. Thanks for clicking

    嗨大家好,我是Alex。感謝你們點進這部影片。

  • and welcome to this lesson on "adjective and preposition combinations."

    然後歡迎來上今日的課程「形容詞與介係詞組合」。

  • Okay. So first of all, we have to understand what an adjective is.

    好,首先,我們必須了解什麼是形容詞。

  • As a reminder, an adjective is a word that describes something.

    提醒大家,形容詞就是用來描述某事。

  • They can describe a noun. So when you look at these adjectives or these sentences ,

    它們可以用來描述一個名詞。所以當你們看到這些形容詞,或是句子時,

  • I want you to just tell me if you can identify the adjectives.

    我要你們告訴我你們是否可以認出形容詞來。

  • What are the adjectives in these sentences?

    在這些句子中的形容詞是哪些字?

  • So he's not interested

    好所以 He's not interested

  • ___ writing. Okay, the adjective

    ___ writing. 好,這邊的形容詞

  • is "interested."

    是「感興趣的」。

  • Okay, so interested describes this person's state.

    好,所以感興趣的形容這個人的狀態。

  • He is not interested something writing.

He is not interested ______ writing.

  • Okay. The other one, I am excited

    好。另一個,I am excited

  • ___ your birthday. "Excited"

    ___ your birthday. 「感到興奮」

  • Okay. I think you're starting to see the pattern, right?

    好。我想你們應該開始抓到這個脈絡了吧?

  • So Joanna is "afraid."

    所以 Joanna 很害怕。

  • I think she's "tired." He is "worried."

    我認為她覺得很厭煩。 他很擔心。

  • Mark is "good."

    Mark很擅長。

  • Okay, so these are adjectives, adjectives, adjectives,

    好,所以這些都是形容詞,形容詞,形容詞

  • and more adjectives. I'll...now in English we often have adjectives combined with prepositions

    還有更多的形容詞。我現在要來...在英文裡我們常常會將形容詞搭配介係詞

  • to create an expression or a small phrase, and we can follow these

    來表達或是使用短語,然後在這些介係詞的後面

  • prepositions with either a gerund, which is an "ING,"

    不是加上動名詞,也就是字尾是 ING 的字,

  • a noun, or a verb acting like a noun

    名詞或是當名詞用的動詞

  • or just a noun in general. So you notice

    或是通常就是一個名詞。所以你會發現以下這些字

  • writing, your birthday, failing,

    writing, your birthday, failing

  • trying, his test, cooking

    trying, his test, cooking 都是這樣子。

  • Okay, so we have some gerunds and we have some nouns.

    好,所以這邊可以看到有動名詞也有名詞。

  • Now before this we have to understand which prepositions

    現在我們要先來了解,哪些介係詞

  • are commonly put with these adjectives. So in the first sentence he's not

    通常會和這些形容詞搭配。所以第一句,He's not

  • interested

    interested

  • ___ writing. So think of as many prepositions as you can. You have "at, on, in."

    ___ writing. 來想過一遍所有你知道的介係詞。有 at, on, in。

  • "You have "about, around, by, with"

    還有 about, around, by, with。

  • Tons and tons and tons of possibilities.

    有非常非常多的可能性。

  • So what you have to know is okay which preposition always goes with this adjective.

    所以你必須要知道的是,哪些介係詞總是跟著哪些形容詞。

  • So the first one maybe you know this: He's not interested

    所以來看第一句:He's not interested

  • "in" writing. I'm not interested in doing something.

    "in" writing. 我對做某事不感興趣。

  • The second one: I am excited ___

    第二句:I am excited ___

  • your birthday. Hey you're excited "about" something usually.

    your birthday. 你對某事感到很興奮。(通常會用 about)

  • I'm excited about your birthday.

    我對妳生日的到來感到興奮。

  • You can also say I am excited

    你也可以說:I am excited

  • " for" your birthday. But the most common preposition here after excited is,

"for" your birthday. 不過在 excited 之後最常用的介係詞

  • you are usually excited "about" something.

    還是 "about"。

  • So you can be excited about a person's birthday.

    所以你可以對某人的生日感到興奮。

  • you can be excited about your vacation.

    你可以對你的假期感到興奮。

  • you can be excited about doing something this weekend with your friends.

    你也可以因為周末要跟朋友出去玩而感到興奮。

  • Okay, next one: Joanna is afraid

    好,下一個:Joanna is afraid

  • ___ failing. Afraid is commonly followed by

    ___ failing. Afraid 通常都是搭配

  • "of"

    "of"

  • She is afraid "of" failing. She does not want to fail.

    她很害怕失敗。她不想要失敗。

  • It's similar to saying scared "of" and so Joanna is scared of failing,

這個說法跟 scared "of" 很像。也可以說 Joanna is scared of failing.

  • afraid of failing. She does not want to fail. The next one:

    afraid of failing. 她不想要失敗。下一個:

  • I think she's tired ___ trying. So she has been trying and trying and trying

    I think she's tired ___ trying. 所以她一直不斷的嘗試嘗試再嘗試。

  • again and again.

    一而再再而三。

  • And now she has grown tired "of" it.

    然後現在她已經對此感到厭煩。(介係詞:"of")

  • So far we have "in, about

    目前為止我們有 in, about,

  • of, of." Let's do another one:

    of, of. 再來做一題:

  • He's worried ___ his test.

    He's worried ___ his test.

  • Now if I say, he's worried

    現在如果我說,he's worried

  • "for" his test. What do you think the meaning of that is?

    "for" his test. 你覺得這會是什麼意思?

  • It's possible to say he's worried "for," but

    是可以說 He's worried "for" 沒錯,但

  • in this situation, if you say he's worried "for" his test,

在這個情境裡,如果你說 He's worried "for" his test,

  • it means that, you know, his... his test is like

    表示,你懂吧,就是好像他的考試

  • a person kinda thing. His test has feelings

    是一個人之類的。他的考試有知覺

  • and maybe his test is depressed, so he's worried

    然後也許他的考試覺得很沮喪,所以他很擔心

  • for his test that his test is gonna cry or something.

    他的考試,怕他的考試會哭出來還怎樣的。

  • So here, he is worried "about," alright?

    所以在這裡,He is worried "about" 才對吧?

  • He's worried "about" his test, about his score. And the last one:

    他很擔心他的考試,擔心他的成績。然後最後一題:

  • Mark is good ___ cooking. Mark is good

Mark is good ___ cooking. Mark is good

  • "at"

    "at"

  • Okay, this is a really really common expression.

    好,這是一個超常見的說法。

  • It means you have ability in something okay

    表示你在某件事上很有能力。

  • so if you have good ability, you are good "at" something.

    所以如果你有好的能力,表示你在某事上做的很棒。

  • So Mark is good at cooking. Mark is great

所以 Mark 很會煮飯。也可以說 Mark is great

  • at cooking, excellent at cooking.

    at cooking, excellent at cooking.

  • If you want to do the opposite, you can say

    如果你想要表達相反的概念,你可以說

  • a person is "bad at" something, or "terrible

a person is "bad at" something, or "terrible

  • at" something, "awful at" something,

    at" something, "awful at" something,

  • horrible at something. Okay so

    horrible at something. 好所以

  • guys these expressions are really really important and

    各位,這些用法超級重要,然後呢

  • the prepositions, please please please please

    這些介係詞,拜託大家

  • remember the correct prepositions that you have to use after these adjectives.

    一定要記住在什麼樣的形容詞後面該用什麼介係詞。

  • Because if you use a different preposition, it will not make sense.

    因為如果你介係詞用錯的話,整句話就是錯的。

  • Okay so if you want to test your understanding of

    所以如果你想要測試一下自己是否了解

  • these expressions, these adjective preposition combinations,

    這些用法,這些形容詞與介係詞的組合,

  • just check out the quiz on engVid.com. Good luck guys. Take care.
