  • live from England with details about his journey.

  • Mr Rose, good morning, Welcome to Good morning saN Diego.

  • Mhm Good morning over there, it's so great to be here.

  • You know, I am a SAN Diegan despite what I might dress like over here now is a british gentleman and I grew up in La Hoya, I grew up in Del mar, I graduated Torrey Pines High School in 1989 and you know my mother Betty Rose who's watching right now is a single mother and she always said brian, you can do anything you want to in this world, you just have to dream big And put in the work and that's why I'm here now.

  • She took me traveling all over the world.

  • I remember she took the whole family to a European vacation, just like the movie with Chevy Chase back in 87.

  • I fell in love with this city and now I plan on being the next mayor.

  • The elections around Thursday, Wow!

Wow!

  • I mean, what an interesting story and background you have because As you mentioned, you graduated from Torrey Pines High School class of 89 and you went on to become a Wall Street banker.

  • Right?

  • Uh, so you have that in your background?

  • Yeah, I went to M I.

  • T.

    T.

  • And graduated there with an engineering degree.

  • I went straight to Wall Street and then I finally came to London and I worked here for 10 years as a banker.

  • Again, I fell in love with the city where my mom brought me here when we traveled the three of us and the four of us actually.

  • And it was always felt like a part of my DNA somehow, almost like home.

  • And then 10 years ago I decided to start broadcasting.

  • I have my own channel called London Real, about a half a billion views.

  • I've interviewed over 1000 different people on the planet.

  • And then last year, I was looking around the city, the city that I love when my Children were born and I looked at the leadership and I thought this isn't good enough.

  • I can do a better job.

  • I can't watch these politicians run this city to the ground.

  • And so I decided to run like I said, we're in second place and I plan on becoming the next mayor of London on thursday and bringing a little san Diego into this city.

  • Yeah, well, that is interesting.

  • You know, what are, what kind of a response do you get from the folks there in London when they come to to learn about your background?

  • I mean, clearly you've been there a long time already, but when they, when they find out that your originated from, you know, you're originally from san Diego California of all places.

  • what kind of a response have you been getting?

  • Well, the press likes to make fun of my accent.

  • Uh, and of course they noticed my suits, which by the way, I come from a savile row tailor here who also is a tailor for the royal family.

  • And again, I go big.

  • So they've seen us out there on these massive outdoor billboards.

  • I have a digital battle bus that I've driven 5000 miles through the city of London.

  • I'm on everyone's youtube channel and instagram.

  • Um, and I kind of have gone big, but they also can see someone who really loves the city and I want the best for Londoners.

  • I have boys that are three and four years old and they're going to have to take over this city someday.

  • And I really want what's best.

  • And the truth is, this city was built on immigrants, whether you're the romans or the Celtics or the Vikings, they all came here and made this better.

  • So I just want to contribute my part.

  • We forget Winston Churchill was half american Prime minister Boris johnson was born in new york city.

  • So I just want to play my role and add what I can to the good points.

  • Yeah, thank you for those reminders.

  • And I'm sure your youtube channel that you created.

  • I mean, do you think that that helped?

  • Also with with so many subscribers?

  • What two million subscribers it grew to.

  • That helped.

  • Um, for people to get to know who you are right?

  • Yeah, I'm doing politics in a different way.

  • We've never seen a leader like me that's digitally transparent.

  • So I go out there and then I stream live, I do videos with people on the streets, I answer questions and you know, I had a teenager went by me the other day and said, oh, you're the next mayor, right, and I like to think that we're making politics sexy again, we're making it accessible to the young kids because I'm on their platforms, I'm on instagram and actually 1.7 million Londoners knew who I was before I started this race out of nine million, so it's played a big part and I'd like to see politicians have their own broadcasting channels going forward, and I'm taking London real all the way to City hall with me and we're gonna keep broadcasting as the next mayor.

  • You know, Mr Rose, it's amazing that you haven't, or at least right now you're not displaying in english accent, does it come out now having lived so many years in London?

  • You know, it's funny, there's little intimations you do, and my wife says that when I get on the phone with my dad back in Del mar, that my accent gets more american, but you know, there's uh there's 32 boroughs here in London sections of the city, and I think I still say it with an american accent, but look, it's who I am, I am from America, I'm super proud to be an american and a san diegan, but now I'm a Londoner and I want to take the city to the next level and I think everyone appreciates that I'm real, I'm honest, genuine and people see through that these days.

  • And so that's why we've had so much support from people on the streets, we really have a grassroots backing here, and that's why we think we're going to pull off the biggest upset in british political history on thursday, and I'll be the next mayor of London.

  • Yeah, I was going to say, what how do the elections work there?

  • I mean what's going to happen on thursday?

  • Yeah, well we've had a postal vote but we expect a really big turnout on thursday to happen.

  • We've got the incumbent mayor who is obviously trying to get reelected and everybody has been out there campaign and they're doing their best.

  • Like I said, we've had a digital battle bus and I've been out there on the streets and really campaigning in a different way, a digitally transparent way.

  • No one's ever seen someone like me who I've lived my life on YouTube for the past 10 years.

  • I've made five documentary films.

  • I've talked about my own struggles with addiction, struggles to be a parent struggles to be a leader and they really, really know who I am.

  • And so again, they're used to politicians that show up for a photo op right before an election.

  • I feel like Londoners really know me and that's really gonna help us win on thursday.

  • Well, Mr BRian Rose, former Laconia resident now running for mayor of London.

  • Good luck to you and keep in touch.

  • Come back and visit us here on good morning SAN Diego and you get a chance.

  • Great, thank you, Liz, I appreciate you.

  • Take care.
