Well, not exactly, but it's helpful to imagine the situation.

So, let's picture 2 people reading the same book, okay?

And this person is on page 10 and this person is on page 20, so that means they're not on the same page

and they don't have the same information, so they can't understand each other, okay?

So, now let's picture this person is on page 10 and this person is on page 10, so that means they're reading the same information

and they can understand each other, okay?

So, let's keep this in mind and listen to 2 examples.

The first one:

Do you think we’re on the same page now?

Of course, we'll not be able to agree if we’re not on the same page.

Okay, then the second example:

Does anyone have any questions on this assignment, are we all on the same page?

I’m sorry, I’m not on the same page, can you go over number 5 again?

Okay, so in the second example, maybe they don't understand each other.

He needed more help to be on the same page and understand.

Okay, so to be 'on the same page' means to have an understanding of the same information.

Maybe you agree, maybe you don't agree, but you have the same information and you can talk about it equally, okay?

So, next time you're in a situation when you want to check if someone understands you, you can ask them,
