And now it's time for our Arts and Culture segment with Yim Yoonhee in the studio.
Good afternoon.
Good afternoon.
We had some beautiful weather yesterday, perfect for taking some pictures outdoors. And with
that in mind, I understand you have some tips for people who may be wanting to see the best
that Korea has to offer.
That's right The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism
has this program... they've been running since 2011,... and basically they keep track of
the 25 most picturesque landscapes here in Korea. They range from mountains to lakes,
rivers, streams. And they cover every nook and cranny of the
country. Let's take a look.
[PACKAGE START] The lotus flower is an iconic flower in Asia.
This year's lotus flowers get an early start, in the beautiful waters of Pond located in
the southern part of Province.
The majestic peaks of span across the Southern Province, tucking away pockets of fog and
mystery.
Here the abondoned fortress that once sheltered King Injo now caresses the empty mountain
terrain, snuggled deep within Province.
The Resevoir is popular fishing place with it's serene landscape
And finally the falls. Takes the breathe away. Located in valley which also houses rocks.
These rocks were inscribed with the names of poets and scholars who frequented the valley
years ago.
These are just a few of the beautiful landscapes here in Korea worth visiting.
With some beautiful weather and some comfortable hiking shoes, you can be sure you'll get some
picture frame worthy shots.
[STUDIO] Korea is really big on hiking.
It seems like quite a few of the locations in the report are hiking locations.
Right, so 70 percent of Korea is covered in mountainous terrain, which explains the very
enthusiastic hiking culture here. There are a few local mountains here in Seoul,
but it's always nice to get out of the city once in a while.
How are these locations chosen?
Applications are submited by the parks or the local government to the Ministry of Culture,
Sports, and Tourism and from there the top 25 most picture worthy locations are chosen.
You know it's good to go see photo exhibitions by other professional photographers----you've
brought quite a few into the studio---but it would be fun to be the photographer for a change.
Especially now with the warm weather, I hear flowers are blooming earlier.
Exactly. Let's hope there's no rain this weekend so we can throw on some comfortable hiking
shoes and get out there to take some pictures. We saw earlier the lotus flowers in the Gungnamji
Pond. Lotus flowers are usually a late spring, early summer flowers.
There are quite a few lotus festivals around that time of the year. But the weather has
been warm. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some more
early blooms.
Thank you for that report. See you next week.
My pleasure. See you next week.
