Next, let's take a listen to the two most expensive shamisen and see if you can hear difference between $10,000.15 to $20,000 worth in sound.

That was probably a little harder to tell the difference between because with shamisen as with cameras or many other things, it follows the law of diminishing returns, while the cheapest one in the mid range, you're going to see a pretty big difference.

The high end and they're really high end.

The biggest difference in the high end shamisen is really in the quality of the materials that are used to make them or the craftsman and his level of skill as well as a bunch of other really complicated factors.

Typically, the shamisen built out of harder wood do sound better, but also built toe last longer.

Shamisen, built out of softer wood, will wear out noticeably faster, like this is my first time in San.

It cost me about 2, 2.5 grand, and I used it for about five years before it started to look like this in comparison to the shamisen that I've been using for the last two or so years, which still looks almost brand new.

Outside of the cost, though, the cheaper shamisen do have some pretty big advantages, like the synthetic skin riel, shamisen skin can rip like the one here on my original shining sand.
